Now that they have this plan, I would like to see them add other non-shared data options like T-Mobile for example.

I'm all over this. Gonna save me 15 bucks a month plus the additional savings from swapping dish to direct. Annndd I can lower my internet speed on xfinity to save more. It's a trifecta. Thanks AT&T

What is also intresting is that they are offering to add tablets for the "unlimited" (for at least 22gb) for 40 dollars a month. I have a grandfathered 30 dollar prepaid plan from 2010 but I could see where that could be intresting for some people.

Just did the math, and in my situation, this would save us money AND help us with the overages we always face. I just want to make sure they don't do anything sneaky like disable tethering. I read through the release on at&t's site and it doesn't address it directly.

Maybe we'll wait to see if they do mention it.

So, basically, all that stuff about unlimited being impossible and degrades other people's service and blah blah was all horsesh*t.

You know when you can tell if AT&T is lying? Their mouths are moving.

Seriously, people got all up in arms about TMOs Binge On, saying it's bad for net neutrality (and it's not). But crap like this is what is really dangerous for net neutrality. The AT&Ts and Comcasts of the world, who own internet services and content provider services, and use their leverage in one to give preferential treatment to people who subscribe to it, and hose those who have no need for it.

This is why I believe we should do the same thing to companies like Comcast and AT&T that we did to electric companies and gas pipelines: Declare their internet service companies as common carriers, and force them to run those companies as separate entities, with no preferential treatment to customers of their own subsidiaries. These scumbag companies have the best of both worlds. They get to operate as de facto monopolies in most of the places they service, while not having to live with the regulatory ramifications of being a monopoly.

Hmmmmm. I think the lawyers have found a way around net neutrality... or at least they are working on it.

The article from the verge states that att says unlimited means 22gb

I love it when unlimited, as in infinity, an infinite amount, really just means 22 GB. The NEW MATH.

Until they discontinue the plan, and you are grandfathered into your plan AND DirecTV for life...

If personal hotspot is not an option, this is something I will not do.

For personal hotspot, you need to sign up with one of their other subsidiaries.

Make sure you look past the first 12 months. A 2 year contract with a discount for the first year is something I will never do. They make it kind of tricky to figure out what you'd be paying after that special rate expires. When will these companies stop just taking care of new customers and now providing any love to their loyal customers. I've been with Time Warner Cable for probably 20 years and it fries me that you can only get discounts as a new customer.

Just saw on another forum that teathering will not be allowed on these new unlimited plans.

Makes sense since, as others have said, people could avoid the steep device access fees if tethering were allowed. This unlimited plan will be a no-go for me, then. I need to be able to tether my Mac to my phone when traveling. Oh well.

FYI, according to the fine print, mobile hotspot is not allowed on this new unlimited plan.

Have you tried threatening to leave?

The 200 text plan was $5, and the 1500 text plan was $15.
You're right. But the point is still made. Pretty much the cheapest a single line phone in 2008 with unlimited data could be was about $75 a month.
I personally am in a $50 plan with $30 in texting with $30 unlimited. So this would be cheaper. Ignoring the tv cost.

Interesting.. Will have to price it out. Already a DirecTV customer and have two lines grandfathered in to unlimited data plan.

Boy, I don't need unlimited data today but that's because I am conditioned to my current plan. My teens could/would use this and today wish they could do more with their devices but are limited. I have to ask myself if this is worth losing the ability to tether my iPad to my phone when away from the house. Maybe since I would not have to worry about the kids blowing up the data plan. 2 days into this month the younger child sat home watching Netflix unaware of being on LTE and used all of their share of the plan for the month.

This would be nice when away from the house and wanting to watch video and would allow the high quality setting for music without worry but man, do I have to do without my iPad...bummer but I understand and expected it.

Sadness in no tethering...but I could just get a cheap sim from t mobile for my kids to use tethering from my iPad.

Has anyone tried to use this with fan...if so, could you let us know how and if it is applied?

Will they allow tethering?

This is what I want to know, too. I haven't seen anything in the AT&T press release saying that the new unlimited plan does or does not allow personal hotspot to work. If it does, I will definitely consider switching to this new plan. I also wonder if this new unlimited plan will cause the other tiered data plans to drop in price? I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

If personal hotspot is not an option, this is something I will not do.

I just got off the phone with AT&T, Personal HotSpot is not covered under this UNLIMITED Plan. So, it's an out for me, because all my tablets are WiFi only.

Also, be careful if you have a FAN discount. Currently mine is 25%, while I did not ask, but not sure if that would work in this case either.

The article from the verge states that att says unlimited means 22gb

The 22GB of data limit is for the grandfathered unlimited accounts. Will they apply it to the UNLIMITED SHARED accounts, who knows? I can understand why we might believe they still might do that and if they do it, it we be even worse, as the UNLIMITED data is now SHARED and it will be easier for 4 or more people to use up 22GB of data compared to 1 user.

On other thing to consider, if it requires you to merge your AT&T and DIRECTV/UVERSE accounts into one billing, I could not do this because of my FAN discount, you might be out of luck too. I will take my 25% off vs the $10 in monthly savings having them merged.
I wonder if there still will be a discount for people on the next installment plan
Yea, that is a good question, not mentioned. 40 per phone - 25 for next/bring your own phone = $15. Probably won't get any of those answer until tomorrow.
