Looks like AT&T has their waiver granted. Check here: https://www.fcc.gov/document/tty-rtt-transition-waiver-att

Looks to be approved now.

Sorry Jonopaige, I didn't read to the end to see you already posted a link.

Heck Yea! In your face anyone harping AT&T and the FCC Were taking too long and whatnot

Yes, this is still used and required in a fire/police dispatching centers.

This guy ( or gal ) rhett7660 is one smart cookie and also has a great avatar/profile pic

I just found "WiFi Calling Blocker" option in MyAtt features.

For ANYONE that had themselves enrolled, and fully active in your bill and online or in app in your features it showed as

"AT&T WiFi Calling feature $0.00"

In the "myATT" app and presumably online account in the features management section
Both the WiFi Calling or WiFi Call blocker features appeared not sure if it was an option to everyone but possibly an interesting tidbit and indicator of something

NOT Worth their hassles lies and risks

You can choose to use it when you want
Or did you not join when it was in Beta?

They didn't exactly "turn it off" persay they are just limiting new people joining the Beta for it or people disabling then re-enabling it. Best to keep it on as is and NOT Make any changes to it while the damned FCC Has them in feature limbo

No Apple devices till either the 5S or 6
and iOS 7 rollout even had ANY Carrier WiFi Calling support so it's iffy

You DO NOT "Get charged minutes" yes you use minutes but most plans these days at all carriers include unlimited minutes. Also AT&T for now is supposedly restricting WiFi Calling feature to those on Mobile Share, or Mobile Share Value plans ONLY ( granted some may of forced it w/o those plans ) which includes Unlimited minutes. So yea you're using minutes but no you're NOT Getting charged for them by any means or in any sense

If you did get charged it would likely be cause the ISP's are charging AT&T cause now you're using whoevers network WiFi you're connecting to for your WiFi calls and that's iffy

AT&T Tit? Wow real classy! Glad to see the Internet at its finest even on a website discussing iPhones and such

Did I say they were "the T-Mobile of yesteryear" ? No I didn't

Does 700mhz Band 12 work everywhere? Uh another NO and you're forced to buy the new iPhone or other new compatible device to access it. Not all of us can or do upgrade yearly or more frequent

Couldn't find a single place eh?
Yea because surely you being the rich savvy world traveler you are have been anywhere and everywhere including my parents house wherein T-Mobile = 1 bar of Signal or worse AT&T = 3 bars

Never said AT&T was unlimited data either re-read what I said

Better yet since fully reading is not your forte I'll spell it out this time

Unlimited is Never ever unlimited no mater whom your provider/carrier/"UnCarrier" is

Unlimited is 99.99% myth .01% at a cost

AT&T will keep giving you data if you keep paying beyond limits or throttle on old unlimited grandfathered plans

T-Mobile Sprint whoever
Will give unlimited but at point will throttle you then if you still use too much they cut you off or change your plan because of so called "network abuse"
Still it amounts to not being unlimited in the truest most literal possible sense

Does AT&T Give Free tethering?
Yes I can use ALL OF MY DATA Anyway I see fit and have done hotspotting ( which T-Mobile caps at 7GB or a % of your data bucket ) tethering ( also restricted at T-Mobile ) and normal mobile data usage never had an issue dating back to the iPhone 3GS

WiFi Calling? Clearly you didn't read the article and don't read the comments enough. I have been using WiFi calling pretty dam well on AT&T no costs or nothing

You seem so anti AT&T I have to wonder about you sucking T-Mobile's Tit?

As for pricing and such its all about what you want out of your carrier, what you're willing to pay, if it can be worth the time money etc and if you can get value for your money.

For me I can and I'm fine with AT&T
Could they do better? Hell yea

But T-Mobile Verizon Sprint
( insert other carriers ) can all still improve and do better too

Oh and for the record I'm grandfathered into a promo where I get 30GB 4G LTE with Rollover Data for the price of 10GB before the adjusted pricing recently

I'll grant you the Rollover period NEEDS To be longer at ATT and there's talk about doing it since it's 1 of the top complaints

Side note T-Mobile's customer service has been crap and downhill for years
( I've used T-Mobile off and on for work and on a prepaid bases )
Happy to report that AT&T WIFI calling works even on grandfathered unlimited plans. I can't seem to figure out what makes it kick in. I've received a call on non-wifi calling with poor reception and had it drop out. Will it switch over mid-call? or does it have to be active at the beginning of the call?

I'm asking this in a honest way because I don't understand the hardships the deaf face but is there a need for TTY support any longer? I know we used a TTY years ago with a deaf relative but wouldn't text messaging replace that service entirely? Is this a case where the FCC regulations haven't caught up to modern technology? Again, asking honestly.

I'm deaf/hard of hearing myself and rely on texting or email via unlimited data with sprint ( it's okay but not cheap ).

I've never owned a TTY but know for a fact that it's already outmoded. These days deaf people who are proficient with sign language now use a video relay call ( similar to Skype ) needing a live operator on screen to facilitate the conversation with a hearing person. But for deaf to deaf, it's mainly a direct call.

I haven't seen RTT but it sounds familiar to me with live chatting in the old internet days. It would have been great if there was such an app that allows it for a " live " text conversation.

Otherwise you're right in that texting is really the norm here for me and others without the need to be tethered to that TTY device to the wall.

I don't like ATT and would never touch their services.

Althogh it's not designed to there are some cases in HD Voice or VoLTE Coverage markets where the call can migrate/handoff mid call from Cell Network to WiFi

The intent was advertised though as WiFi to cell network handoff only. It may be a work in progress or an unintended but yet very beneficial side benefit or just some out of the blue good fortune for the lucky few whom have had it work either way glad it's working for you to some extent.

Enjoy :)

I made a call recently and indeed it did hand off mid call from cell to wifi. When I started the call I only had 2 bars and was hoping it would turn to wifi at the initiation of the call. About 30 seconds into the call there was a pause of silence for about a second and I actually thought it was dropping the call but then it kicked in. Pretty seamless.
