This is the fastest I've got. Did 5 tests, the other 4 were in between 1.4 MB-2.0 MB

I am surprised At&t isn't making a bigger deal out of this.

I'm jealous of you guys. I'm still stuck on EDGE here, 1 month past the "promised" upgrade date to 3g.

Then I am... after all, Verizon can't touch those speeds.... um yes! Verizon tears! Yes, their tears of envy are delicious!

Yea but unfortunately latency issues still exist (at least for me in the DC area). All the speed in the world doesn't matter when it still takes you a few seconds to establish the initial connection. From what I've seen, Verizon doesn't experience this.

Whats with the poor upload speeds? My droid gets far better numbers than that upload... download is really nice though. I get about 2.2 down on verizon, 850k up.

Just tried the speed test on Rutgers Campus in NJ and noticed that my speeds are almost double what they had been on 3g. I used to get 1800kbs max now I'm above 3000 kbs everytime. Looks like the new 7.2 network is finally going online. Of course here is the proof. I showed the test in progress so you know its on 3g and not wifi.

How did you copy this test from your iPhone to the forum, is there a program you use to take a snap shot of your screen and post it to the forum?

Push the power and home buttons at the same time for a brief second. The screen should flash and the screenshot will be added to your photo library, which you can then email, or sync back to your computer.

Thanks Jeffrosprot that works really cool it will make things much easier going forward.

I agree. While the download speed is nice why is the AT&T upload speed so much slower then Verizon? I usually get around 500-700k up on Verizon and around 1500k down.

and AT&T can't touch Verizon's coverage area or voice reliability. If AT&T is as wonderful as you try to claim why are they always last place in customer satisfaction surveys? Shouldn't they be first if their network is so amazing?

For upload speed explanation see after quote below. Why are they like that? Well, basically because all reports are concentrated on heavy populated areas like San Fran and New York... areas where unluckily AT&T lags; however, that doesn't make up the rest of the US, where many of us AT&T users find AT&T to be superior to Verizon... also, in Customer Care, AT&T reps have always called me Sir or Mr. where as with Verizon it was always a fight on my bill being charged stupid and idiotic things I never put there. God I hate Verizon....

Slow upload speeds are hardware limited. AT&T has HSUPA enabled for up to 2 Mb/s (AT&T is planning for a max of 5.76Mb/s upload). However, the iPhone's X-Gold chip allows only uploads thru UMTS protocols, not HSUPA, so the speed is limited to 384Kb/s... which is why you see all iPhone plagued by slow uploads. However, over Wi-Fi the iPhone is capped at whatever the Wi-Fi bandwidth is capped.

This is what I typically get on Verizon with my Droid. Allentown, PA.

And I just took an updated speed test on my Droid:

Why are you coming into my thread and bragging about your droid. I honostly do not care what your droid can do. I would never buy one even if the speed were 10x that of the iphone. In fact, why are you bothering to post on this forum. Do you work for verizon? Bottom line is the droid was overhyped and it will never reach the success of the iphone. I still have only seen one person using it and guess what, its camera was malfunctioning at the time.

This is great! My 3g download speeds before were about 1.1 to 1.2 megabits, and now is 2.3 to 2.7 megabits. This in Fanwood NJ.

I'm testing consistently above 3mbit in Fairfax, VA (about 10 miles from where I hit the above test). Seems at least in the DC market things are starting to be rolled out.

Upload still sucks though :-( Haven't been maxing that out ....

Wow I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I just tested at 2.8mbps in Fairfax City. I've never been able to get half that here. I live in Arlington, so I'll test that when I get home from work.
