I changed it last week when I got my new phone, that's my point!!

I think you'd still have the option to upgrade it again. We changed from 10 to 15 just over a month ago, upgraded phones this month and changed our plan this morning.

Logged in, went to change plan and it gave the option to change from our 15 to 30. Reset our data for the month, done and dusted.

Yup after some digging you are correct, if you go look at your current plan (in the app.) It gives you the option to upgrade, the thirty gig plan is the same price as my current plan, and it allows you to change it. I was worried for a second!! Now if I can only figure out why I have charges for the full price of the iPhone 6 I returned after I got the 6+ is on my bill.... Customer service at AT&T is pretty hard to deal with...

I saw the news of the promo last night and tried changing right away. Then I noticed that it didn't take effect until today. Woke up and made the change while still in bed.

Thank goodness for competition, as I'm sure that is what is driving the change. I'd prefer paying less but I'll take the extra data in lieu of something not likely to happen.

This does NOT change your contract! Only thing that changes your contract is a new phone!

What sucks about this is that it only covers

15gigs and up!

so everyone with the 10gig plan won't work for you!
If you upgrade to the 15gig plan (now 30gig) it will only cost you $20.00 more a month! so definitely worth the upgrade just in case!!!

30 bucks more a month and I'll come off the unlimited which gets throttled at 5 Gigs (I've averaged over 4 in the past three months), go up to 6Gigs, unlimited international texting, and personal hotspot.

I usually pay $25 bucks every 3 months for 1Gig of data for my Ipad.

So to change it will cost me about $65 more (90-25 per qtr) for:
1 more gig of data(LTE Speed)
Unlimited International Texting
Personal Hotspot

Hmmmmm...I don't know

Very tempting to switch my family plan to this.... I have the grandfathered unlimited data, the others however only have 2gb a piece and get very close or go over every month.

This is simply not true. Next worked this way when it was first introduced and was a terrible deal. But it hasn't been like that for quite some time now. If you actually sit down and crunch the numbers, it actually turns out to be cheaper than a traditional 2 year contract.

Gotta appreciate T-mobile for introducing some actual competition into the U.S. cellular market!

There were a lot of threads about this prior to the 6 launch because people wanted to know what to do. The truth is it is different for different people, but for some such as myself, a subsidized iPhone is cheaper than a Next plan. Another for others the saving range from negligible to worth it. So you have to have all the facts for each scenario before you can make that assessment, and then it only applies per scenario.

So no, a Next plan would cost me more than my 2 year contract. Sorry.

After reading more about Next I realize I made a mistake going with the 2 year contract.

Is there any chance I can call ATT and pay off my two new iPhones and get to have the lower access cost per iphone?

Or perhaps take my iPhone's back to Apple and return them and then rebuy them under the Next plan or full price? I'm all about savings and I screwed the pooch on this one.

Three possibilities:

1) You're great at math but didn't check your results and it went horribly wrong.
2) You hate AT&T so much you're spreading FUD
3) You work for the competition.

Me?

I did the math, the AT&T price is MSRP. It's very fair and beneficial for the data included. :)
He is confusing AT&T with T-mobile. T-mobile charges more than MSRP, just check pricing in their stores and online, Not AT&T.
Lots of misinformation in this thread. The beloved T-mobile, bad AT&T and Verizon, got it:confused:
Since T-mobile's business plan is pretty clearly to make it look good for a buyout enjoy it while you can, ah Where you can.

ATT Next is a total scam. It looks cheaper in the 1st year (which is advertised on the website) but will become MORE expensive in the 2nd year.

You have to make 2... NEXT payments and then you can pay it off.
On my 6+ 128, I walked in and paid the taxes for the phone and walked out.
The next 2 months I pay a $39.99 payment, and the third month I pay off the remaining balance and done which is $949 - the 2 x 39.99 payments.

IF, you are within your 14 day window.

The only way I could order for in-store pickup was to choose the 2yr contract on apple.com, get to the store and then you have complete your order. You then return the phone and repurchase under the NEXT plan.

OR

Go ahead and pay the ETF / Early Termination Fee and drop the monthly fee because the phone won't be under contract.

i believe it's better to stay on contract and pay ETF's, total would be less than the cost of iPhone's - if you paid 399 + 325 = $724 (if you went to tmobile $325 gets paid by them so $399 for iPhone 6+ 64GB)

or full price on next for 64GB plus is $849 minus payments made

You're right...the Apple employee pointed that paying the ETF along with the contract price is over a hundred bucks cheaper. And that's if you pay the ETF fee immediately. If you can wait a while, it'll be even cheaper. And even further, you won't pay taxes on the full retail of the price.

Exactly! Wish they just doubled everyones storage.

I would prefer to stay with att. Will they let me pay the ETF and then just pay the off contract price at ATT? I don't really like the Next idea because I prefer lower monthly payments.

I have an iPhone 6 plus and the wife has the iPhone 6.

I didn't actually do it so I'm not sure but it seems that you would pay the subsidized price at Apple then go to ATT and pay the ETF to get off the contract but still retain your current plan.

But I'm curious-why would you want to pay the ETF if you plan to stay with ATT?

No you don't, I just got screwed because of this very thing. I returned my iPhone 6 to best buy and they called AT&T requesting to cancel my line. Long story short the operator at AT&T thought I was requesting an early payoff on the next plan and processed it that way, I now have a big fat $849 charge on my at&t bill, and it says "installment due on next plan $0" you can pay the full price of the phone off whenever you like, AT&T doesn't care because there are no finance charges, so they do not lose any money by letting you pay it off whenever you like, even if it's the day after you sign up. Once the balance is paid in full you are eligible for an upgrade or can cancel the line without penalty. That's how a bunch of the Craigslist folks had extra phones and were selling them way over MSRP they were paying off the lines and walking away with a couple hundred per phone in pocket.

had to jump in for respond on this since i read the fine prints many times. you can pay off the phone anytime BUT u will only be available for an upgrade after u pay 2 bills cycle.

You say it's been proven wrong on here but my family plan is $150 a month, if I get a subsidized phone it stays the same but if I get a new next phone it will go up to $190+ a month. So how is that wrong?

No that's not correct. Each phone on the next program or brought over is $15 a month PLUS the dost of the next program phone. In the case of my wife it is something like $35.00. A subsidized phone is $40 a month. So the 100 10g family share is $100 + 15 per next/owned phone+ next payment + $40 for subsidized phone. So in my case my monthly price went from around 200 a month to around 215 a month but I replace 2 dumb phones on my account with 2 smart phones. So the 15 added is well worth it in my case.

----------

Please enlighten me. I haven't looked into it too much, but at the price per month times the number of months, you end up paying hundreds more for the phone.
You're paying $15 for the service and around $35 a month for the next program. So technically one would end up paying around $840 for the cost of the phone over two years..... But don't forget the $15/month next fee.

Agh! Now that may be true, in that case just add a line and repeat lol.
