Cable, internet, and phone are awful in the United States but at least we have..... uh..... you know I am not quite sure these days. Public transportation is awful, taxes are high, education and health are bottoming out.

Well, we do have Pabst Blue Ribbon. 'Murica..... Hell yeah!

We still have something that makes us by far the most highly sought after destination to emigrate. It's easy to get lost in the forest when all you hear from your own neighbors and politicians is how bad things are, but the facts on the ground don't lie. We are still the place where the young, educated, optimistic people from around the world try to go to make their fortune.

Because I can't bring my device of choice. They refuse to allow iPhones on that plan. Why? I have no idea.

What? I got the plan when I had the iPhone 5, then upgraded to a galaxy and now the 5S. Never a problem with GoPhone.

They did tell me that high speed data was not going to work, but I just ignored them (of course ot works). I'm happy with it, and I purchase $60 refill cards for about $55 on eBay every month

If you bring your device to AT&T, the difference between GoPhone and post-paid for unlimited text/talk and 2 GB is now only $5. Very interesting.

At least we don't have socialized medicine.

That's right. You have a lot of sick people who can't afford to get healthy.

Here in the UK, you need a hip replacement, you get one. Doesn't depend on you being rich.

We also don't pay the ridiculous kind of money that you put up with for your phone 'plans'. Strike that - I mean stupidly ridiculous kind of money.

I wish we could have single payer in the US but the stupid conservatives convinced the masses that its worse even though its substantially better, lowers costs and has better healthcare outcomes.

Sure they can. Just stop paying CEOs and the like such obscene salaries.

Don't think that MVNOs get their time from AT&T/Verizon for free. They don't own the towers but they pay for [a piece of] them.

ATT CEO makes around 22m
ATT has 110m customers

Let's do that math. Say they stop paying him altogether. You save .20 per year!!! Yes let's start a petition. These companies deal in billions with a B. the top salaries are a drop in the bucket, if that. The largest cost for companies like this BY FAR is employees and upkeep. None of which the leeching wireless "CLEC's" are responsible for. They are after all in business to make money. It's less than it was and they really don't have to do anything. Tmo will never be able to hang with the big boys.

I say ours is greener

First, our taxes are much lower than Europe. Second, their communication infrastructure is much cheaper due to population densities 3-7 times that of the US. Personally, I'd rather have the wide open spaces here than faster movie downloads.

$60/month 2GB Data, Unlimited Calling + Texting [International included], Full 4G + LTE Data [Not throttled by any proxy or anything so it does have the same low ping rates as the Post-Paid plans] and can actually be had for $54/month via Callingmart.com -- they have their 10% off just about every month and no tax or fees.

International is NOT included. I know this, because I tried to call England, and could not.

I bought 250 minutes of international calling for $5. It is good for 30 days.

I'm paying $30/month for my 3 GB data only plan, which is all I need in this day and age (thanks to the wonderful technologies like VoIP, text messaging apps, etc.).

Not to mention it's pre-paid (but set to autorenew by charging a credit card), so I can cancel anytime without any contracts.

I don't get why people want to pay more to be stuck with a legacy technology. Plus I just use Wi-Fi or get a local data-only sim card when traveling, no need for expensive roaming.

GoPhone is still $10 to $15 less after taxes.

Besides more access to domestic roaming, is there any difference between prepaid and postpaid anymore?

I know MVNOs proxy your data which results in high ping times and throttled data, but GoPhone does not seem to do this.

I looked up my usage to see if I can switch to this (I can't...2 GB shared isn't enough) and I was shocked at how little phone usage I actually use. I knew it was not a lot, but...makes me wish someone would introduce data-only plans, with phone use ala carte. Will never happen, though.

I used to buy the density argument, but I don't any longer. Iceland has a lower population density like the US, but with European rates.

I wrote International next to texting....

Doesn't this depend on your state?

buy from callingmart.com and no taxes...they usually have promotion almost every month so total is only $54....

Gotta love it whenever the international crowd stop by in these U.S. carrier threads to spout off on how much better they are in only paying a fraction of the cost for cellular service.

News flash: We get it!

Don't be so smug.

I may be wrong, but don't the carriers in the U.S. have a lot more area to cover with their networks, compared to smaller European countries?

This is such a good plan. Too bad I don't have a single plan line. I wonder if I can go on this plan and add my other line since the 2-line family plan is overkill for me. My second line is just a simple phone that is hardly used.

A lot of your compatriots obviously don't get it. If they did, they'd be up in arms until your network cartels are well & truly broken up.

It's not smugness to point this out. It's an invitation to wake up and do something about it. You are being ripped off big time. Essentially, I feel sorry for US citizens being in this pickle.

Bloody hell I downloaded 65GB last month on my true unlimited data plan with Three UK. 1000s of texts and minutes included. Tehthering too. That's for £35 / $58 which includes taxes.

Whilst you guys in the US are always cheaper in terms of goods. In the mobile / cell market you are truly being ripped off.

Funny world that.

^^ that. In exchange we are being ripped off when buying stuff. A lot of times, $ prices (see Apple) are straight £ prices. Even with added sales tax in the US we'd be better off buying in the US, well, everything ... Clearly apart from cell / mobile stuff :p

I don't understand how your carrier are getting away with it.

It's hardly cheaper to buy things in the USA nowadays. Say you buy something like a MacBook Pro, to bring it back without having to pay tax on it, you basically have to commit fraud. That money could actually be helpful to, I don't know, the country?

So why not just go with AT&T's GoPhone plan of $60?

Because most of the folks want to finance their phone.

What is interesting is that much of this forum is...

- Expecting service and devices for free or at cost. i.e.... for the carrier to not make $$
- Expecting that a carrier like T-Mobile's pricing should be the same as an AT&T or Verizon. This is just CLUELESS. You get what you pay for. T-Mobiles network is MUCH smaller. Carriers like AT&T invest in huge build-outs to bring bigger and MUCH MUCH faster networks. Nothing wrong with T-Mobile if you have great service in your area. You just can't compare the two.

Wait... crap.

Erm.. that's sort of the problem isn't it? Conservatives are really stupid.
