AT&T Early Upgrade - iPhone 5

Early upgrade is usually around the 1 year mark... It is $449 US. So, if your two year contract expires in May 2013 like mine, $449 will be offered October 8, 2012.

This is odd that you're not eligible for the early upgrade pricing until October 8th. I got my 4S on launch day and AT&T is telling me that I'm eligible right now for the early upgrade pricing. My contract also ends in May 2013.

I'm not planning on upgrading early, but I just thought I'd throw this info out there.

AT&T is ridiculous! How can they tell one person one thing and another person another? I've upgraded my iPhone every year since day one for less than $450... Now they say I can't until October 8th and there is NOTHING they can do.

Should I go to a local AT&T store and see what they say? Calling and live chat have done nothing for me.

I'm thinking about going to the store and asking. If I get someone friendly I might be able to get them to give me account credit. It seems like telling them you have a friend who had that done doesn't mean anything though.

didn't work

Ok, ATT will work with you...I just talk my way out of the $250 fee.

I had the +250 upgrade fee till 5/08/2013...(I'm the primary on a family plan).

I called the ATT sales representatives and kept asking them why I got the upgrade the last few years and not this year. Note, this was a "sales" representative, not a customer service rep (navigate to sales like you want to make a purchase and then hit 0 for the operator)...

At first I just got the usual line as everyone else but I kept pressing why I was not valued this year?

Then she talked to a manager and said she got codes to waive the $250 fee if I buy the upgrade from her over the phone then and there.

Which I did and now have the full discounted price. I can't go buy it on opening day, but it's definitely worth waiting a week for $250 in my pocket...

Thanks

I tried this to no avail. :( They said there was no way they could do anything about it.

I called AT&T today. I explained, nicely, that I had been an early adopter of every iPhone since the 3 and if there was anything they could do about the $250 fee. I got passed around to a few different people but after 30 minutes they told me that they would change my upgrade date to today. Given I purchased the 4s in October of last year I was surprised and pleased. $36 upgrade fee. There is much to be said for just being polite. :)

Did the same thing. I got no where. :( should I try again? Do you have the name of the person you spoke with? lol I have purchased every iPhone from the beginning and they didn't care. They just kept saying I didn't qualify. But they are willing to give the $399 64gb iPhone price to brand new customers rather then to a customer like myself that has been with them for 5+ years. They said if I were to renew a 2 year contract while purchasing the iPhone 5 they would charge my an additional $250? Since when do you pay extra to renew a contract? WTF? I can understand if you want to get out of a contract but to renew one and then pay to be apart of it? THAT'S ********! **** At&t and Apple for screwing with me and taking my money for the past 5 years and then telling me to **** off and say I can't have the new iPhone until June of 2013. Really? Uh bad business ethics anyone? The attorneys that wrote up the new contract policies can KISS MY ASS! Jerks!

wakerider017 I was trying to get a hold of you related to an older archived post but your AIM didn't seem to work. What's the best way to DM you?
