That's what I never understood about throttling.

You either get 100mbps 5G speed... or you get throttled to ridiculous dial-up speeds. And like you said... it's unusable.

It's basically an on-off switch. No variance.

Seems like if they have the technology to keep track of every bit you download... including which part of the month your billing cycle is on... that they could also be able to control the throttling more effectively.

Instead... they say "oops it's day 25... and you're on a crowded tower... you didn't really want to use data, did you?"

:p
Hot spot data remains limited to 40 GB. Pathetic.

I wasn't aware Verizon bought Apple and Disney, since Verizon offers Apple Music and Disney plus for free.
My Verizon bill is 50% off thanks to a corporate plan and it’s the highest tier, 2 iPhones and an Apple Watch, Apple Music for both of us, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, 5G UW and a monthly $3 Amazon gift card bonus on top of other random perks.

$100/month for that ain’t bad and neither would $200.

Yep! Felt more like a punishment rather than a simple data throttling limit. Completely defeats the ENTIRE purpose of unlimited data if you can't even get the data to begin with, lol. I could at least get to sites on throttled data, but AT&T's meaning of throttle just means, eh let's shut em out, basically.

Meanwhile, you need your phone to access something important, and you can't. Oh, but they still want their monthly bill paid on time. Sheesh. :p

I have 4 iPhone 12 (financed with rebates to equal 0 per month) 4 Apple Watch lines, with Netflix top level plan and pay $120/month after taxes. And our jobs pay together $100/month towards our plans so we pay $20/month. Barely more than the Netflix plan alone.

I wish the new plans weren't such a lousy deal. Right now I have two lines on a 12GB Mobile Share plan, and pay $106 a month, including taxes and fees.
So you currently split 12GB. Do you routinely go over your limit? If not why would you care?
Even the CHEAPEST among the new plans, with all their restrictions would run me $120 a month before taxes and fees.
How much data does the cheapest plan offer? What are the restrictions compared to your current plan?
I think this is their way of raising prices. Leave older customers on their cheaper plans, and only offer more expensive plans to new customers. As churn happens everyone slowly pays more on average over time.
Prices fluctuate over time, sometimes they go up, sometimes they go down. If they raise their prices beyond what their customers are willing to pay, there are lots of alternatives to which it is easy to switch.

Advice needed: I have an AT&T grandfathered unlimited data plan from the days of the iphone 3g. I pay ~$90/month for my single line with “unlimited” text and data, and (basically) voice. I’m in California.

I stay on this because I always heard that the new plans are ****, but lately I’ve been hearing I could get a good plan for >$50/month.

Any thoughts/advice on better companies/plans?

I would love to test out AT&T’s network, but I’m not giving up Verizon’s service and free Apple Music (even though people say it’s expensive) If only AT&T would let you test out their network like T-Mobile.

Tempted to change my plan for an increase of $3.75 monthly pre-taxes/fees, but I'd lose my WatchTV and I honestly can't even remember the last time I've been throttled, if at all.

This is great news! Good job AT&T. Not going to lie AT&T has really stepped their game up. Apps like AT&T Call Protect, Free HBO MAX, Active Armor for private VPN really making a difference out there against other competitors.

AT&T stepping up their game? Pfft! 🤣 This is AT&T copying T-Mobile again. You can thank T-Mobile for this.

T-Mobile's been offering their Magenta MAX plan which offers unthrottled unlimited data and 40GB hot spot + free Netflix and 4K streaming for months now.

In thr USA. Do these plans include a handset or is it purely just the data/texts/minutes?
Because $85 is a huuuuge sum to pay.

Nice, glad to see AT&T match - that should mean Verizon will follow suit too. Gotta love competition right now. It isn’t perfect but because of T-Mobile the past few years, AT&T and Verizon have had to step up.

I wouldn’t have believed you 5 years ago if you told me I’d have unlimited data with 5G UWB on Verizon with Apple Music, Disney+, Hulu and ESPN + all included.

(inB4WellDuhThoseServicesDidntExist lol)

What shocked me the most when I switched a few years back was the wild
Difference between AT&T and Verizon taxes and fees. AT&T was nearly double per line

T-Mobile is the 5G King right now. AT&T and Verizon are going to have to heat things up in other offerings or they will bleed customers to T-Mobile.
I just switched from T-Mobile to AT&T. While T-Mobile claims I live in an excellent 5G area, I have not had working 5G since March. Last week T-Mobile 4G/LTE quit working, so I left. I don't feel T-Mobile's network is as strong as AT&T's. Sure T-Mobile can claim the fastest 5G, in the few spots they offer it, but if you can't use their network in most places all this fastest 5G talk is useless.

I'm on a big family plan. It would be nice if AT&T didn't purposely BLOCK 5G access to all of us.

We have a massive (shared) data package with no limits on data speeds, tethering, video stream quality, or anything else. With roll-over data we always end up with way more data than we can use. It's virtually unlimited, and I get a discount through work.

AT&T wants us to switch to a new "unlimited" plan - with limits on video quality, limits on tethering, and limits on how much discount I get through work - it will ensure a maximum price increase for a more limited service. In return, we can get access to 5G.

Definitely not a monopoly.

You know what Verizon can't do? Offer HBO Max to its customers for free.
Verizon offers Apple Music, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ for free to subscribers on their "Get More Unlimited" plan

Subscribers also get 12 month free of Discovery+ and Apple Arcade

That is just the plan.

Plus you pay taxes and fees, which can push it over $100 depending on where you live. This is a major reason why I stick with prepaid.

That is INSANE. I have just got a new plan in the UK. Iphone 12 over 24 months + Unlimited 5G data/texts/minutes. All taxes included £53/month (~$62). Y'all been ripped off over there.

Edit: and when it says unlimited- they really actually properly mean it.
