I have to wait about ~20 seconds for the "AT&T WiFi" tag to show up, next to the airplane.
Then calling works. Is it enabled in the settings?

Won't help Failbook much if I do not even have an account. As I avoid it like rabies.
Also, the point is to criticize them for even thinking about telling us to use it to call a foreign number when traveling...
It also works on airplane WiFi for a while now...
You do realize you don't have to travel to use those don't you? You can call Canadian or Mexican phones from the U.S.
It also works on airplane WiFi for a while now...
It works for me too ... Stupid question, you are on 9.3 correct? Maybe try rebootingWell please enlighten me then... When I'm in airplane mode but have wifi on, when I place call, I get a message that says i must disable airplane mode to place a call, with the options of cancel or disable.
So I guess this feature was one of the benefits of doing the Carrier update that I was prompted to do immediately after unlocking my phone after installing iOS 9.3. Good on you, AT&T!
AT&T, don't you guys know that you guys are still a rip off when I am traveling overseas?
Besides, have you guys at AT&T heard of an app called Whasapp? I can call using that on Wi-Fi to anyone in the world that has a smart phone with the app...
Now, tell me why in the world do I want to use your Wi-Fi calling to oversea numbers?

What carrier version do you have then? I'm not sure I was prompted for a crier update post 9.3 install.
Thanks!
AT&T is also notifying customers about a change to NumberSync, which now allows devices linked to an iPhone to make or receive calls over an AT&T cellular connection, something that wasn't previously possible.
The NumberSync feature allows AT&T users to make calls and send text messages using their phone number from a device like an iPad or Mac even when their iPhone is turned off or in another location. Previously, devices had to be connected to Wi-Fi to use the feature, but starting today, a cellular iPad or other device with a cellular connection can use it to make NumberSync calls when a connected iPhone is unavailable.
I am pretty sure we will have to put the phone in airplane mode and then turn wifi on, because calls routed through cell network will be billed exorbitantly. I dont want to be the guinea pig that learns this the hard way.Make sure you turn your cellular data of. Roaming at those prices is an accident you don't want. Isn't this essentially Skype/FaceTime?
The person you're calling doesn't need a particular handset in order for you to use Wi-Fi calling. I think you're confusing Wi-Fi calling with HD Voice. Wi-Fi calling can be used when you're calling any number -- even a landline.
I'm not sure why Wi-Fi calling wouldn't work for you unless the Wi-Fi signal is poor, the internet connection behind the Wi-Fi is poor, or the system admins at your office have blocked the ports that are used by Wi-Fi calling.
WiFi calling is awesome. I was in an ER that blocked cell calls but offered free wifi. I was calling family while the staff was puzzled onto how i was doing it. You will love it. When you cannot make a call, with wifi, you now can.
T-Mobile's Mobile Without Borders is the best way to use a smartphone outside the United States, without a doubt.
All the other carriers are so behind in that aspect.
Agreed. I'd consider returning to ATT (since their coverage and speed are really good where I live) but I travel overseas too much to give up what I get from T Mobile.T-Mobile's Mobile Without Borders is the best way to use a smartphone outside the United States, without a doubt.

So AT&T joins T-Mobile and Verizon with this. No idea about Sprint (are they even still in business?).
T-Mobile's Canada & Mexico add-on is also free for those on newer postpaid plans. Those on grandfathered plans can get it at $10 per month.
AT&T is right for me, why you want to take out of context a feature is what I don't get. I recommend you read before replying. BTW, America is not a country lmao.
On a side note, my 5s is now worth only $100 on Gazelle.
When abroad, how can I make sure my iPhone is only using wifi calling? Eg, how can I force it to use Wifi calling only?
Actually, if you're not on a Mobile Share Value Plan of 15 GB or higher, unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico from the U.S. is not included in your plan; but roaming in Mexico (if you proactively add it) and Canada (if you call Retentions and ask them to add it) including calls within those countries when you're there and also back to the U.S. is included. However, if you don't want to bump up to a 15+ GB MSV plan, unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico from the U.S. can be added for $5.00/month by adding the World Connect Value Package to your plan.
