Need help

If anybody could help me I would appreciate it. I have an unlocked/jailbroken iphone 3G running on modem firmware 06.15.00. Now I was using T-Mobile on a plan, but that ended. I got a AT&T Gophone sim card got it activated with the data plan, went to Unlockit.co.nz and followed everything accordingly, when i went to install it, its coming up with an error about UUID, Is this because of the previous unlock done, and should I just restore the phone back to its original settings? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Need help

I have an unlocked/jailbroken iphone 3G, I was on a T-Mobile plan & that ended. I got a AT&T Go phone sim, got it actitvated and went to Unlockit.Co.NZ and when I went to update profile I am getting a msg that says UUID profile not unique. It then asks if i want to remove the current APN, Should I remove this APN & go back on Wi-Fi and try to install the APN through Unlockit, or will this Make the phone go back to being unlocked? And, does the phone even need to be unloc ked now that I have a go phone sim? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!

Just wanted to let you guys know this trick works beautifully

Here are the basic steps required

1. Go to Wal-mart and buy a gophone prepaid phone kit
2. Activate the sim card that comes with it on the AT&T website using the IMEI from the gophone. DO NOT PUT THE SIM IN THE GOPHONE, EVER
3. Place said sim in iPhone and you're done

Very simple

Did this on a regular iPhone 3G (w/ 4.2.1) & it worked perfectly using the SIM from this $10 Samsung from Walmart.
Used all "1"s for IMEI.

You dont have to do this anymore, you can sign up in store with your iphone now for the go phone smartphone plans.

Link please.

You still can't even buy a U.S. iphone without the subsidized plan to date. My local store tells me to eff off so I would need proof of this. (I'm using an ipad unlimited sim card + skype for unlimite data only but it would still be nice to have a legit number for emergencies.

My experience.

It was a "silent launch" and the stores werent specifically informed about the smartphone plans, try another store or call in to sign up.

I used to do the ipad SIM thing too but this is much better, and as far as the phone goes they are everywhere used and a locked one to AT&T is fine.

Thank you! This could be really awesome news for me. So do they allow you to purchase unlimited data month to month or are we still limited to 20 bucks for like 100 mb's? Cause I would BLOW through that when I used to use my go phone sim. When I called to cancel, Att told me they were working towards an unlimited data go-phone plan.

[edit] just checked your other thread for my answers ;)

Highly doubt there will ever be a gophone unlimited data plan for smartphones. The data plans can be set up for auto renew though so if you blow through it it will automaticlly deduct the money, if available, and start the next unit of data. Biggest is $25 for 500MB data good for 30 days with no rollover.

I think you can port numbers for any new contract. They asked me if I wanted to and I said no, need new number.

Also correction to my above post, data and apparently SMS messages DO rollover. That's pretty cool.

Or you can just walk into an AT&T store, ask for a pre paid SIM for your iPhone (they'll tell you data won't work), and they'll get you a SIM, get your account info and you are on your way. You can then load the SIM from home or in the store. Why buy an extra phone at walmart to do this? You only need the SIM.

help needed

Sorry folks if I'm rehashing old ground, but I could use some help.

I have an unlocked iPhone 3GS that was originally purchased/used in the UK on O2 (they unlocked it for me). I've recently moved to the US and acquired a AT&T goPhone SIM card. Upon completion of the activation, they sent me a password via SMS which I need to add $ to the account via credit card online.

Problem is, I am not getting any service on the iPhone, and therefore cannot receive the SMS!!!! Without the passcode sent via SMS, I can't add any $ to the account. I know there is a signal here, because I have a 2nd phone (with an AT&T gophone SIM in it) which is getting a good signal.

Any ideas?

Are you 110% sure it was unlocked? May be worth double checking.

Yes, the phone was unlocked. i even have the text from o2 confirming they did it. I'm thinking I may have erred when activating the gophone SIM card online. Rather than entering all zero's (which many have suggested), I made up a random IMEI #. Have I 'locked' the SIM to that random IMEI? If so, is there any way to unlock it or do I need to start over? Do you think an AT&T will give me a replacement?

Hoping to find a relatively painless, minimal cost and time solution.

Suggestions?

The IMEI is on the SIM slide out thing or in the settings app on the phone, having the wrong one can't help.

Also, if truly unlocked you might have seen a message in iTunes saying the phone is unlocked. Did you see that?

I didn't check iTunes. I'm going to go to ATT store and see if they can help with the SIM.....either unlock from IMEI or just give me a new one. Don't know what else to do at this point.

Can't you put the iPhone SIM in the 2nd phone and get the password via SMS?
or
Does the 2nd Gophone SIM work in the iPhone?

I would not go to AT&T store, I would call them instead.

ok so this thread went on for a year and nobody really summed up all the questions in one post. so here we go...

this will be a 2 part-er the first part will be for people who haven't started yet or only have the iphone and are looking to get it on a pre-paid sim card.

ok so this first part like i said above is for people who haven't gotten a gophone sim card yet.

1. obtain the iphone of choice. (from what i have gathered this works on iphone 2g,3g, 3gs an apple rep told me today 3/2/11 in seattle, WA that it will not work with iphone 4)
2. go buy a prepaid sim. now there are 2 ways of doing this you can buy just the sim from ebay and go with that or... you can buy a go-phone at wall-mart, bartells where ever. and use that, its important to know that if you buy th go-phone at the store that you will need to activate it ONLINE! do not activate it on the phone it comes with!!!
3. activate the sim (like i said above if bought in store need to activate online)
4. pop it into your iphone (if its an att prepaid sim you're done. if its not you'll need to jailbreak and unlock)
5. Profit! (sorry i just had to)

ok the second part is for you people like me who made the mistake of activating the sim on your go phone.

1. get your self an iphone.
2. mosey on down to your local att shop and tell them that your phone took a deep sea dive without you and you need a new sim card. also tell them that you haven't purchased a phone yet. (i used this exact story just so you know... also my old go phone is sitting on my shelf safe and sound. in case you still don't understand i lied to them...)
3. take the new sim card they give you and pop it into your iphone and wait a couple of seconds for it to activate the phone and you're done!

hope that clears this up for everyone...

Thanks, very good summary. But ill it work if you already have an active iphone and wish to transfer the cell number to gophone sim and then use that sim for the iphone?

Ok first, all 3G and 3GS iPhone will work with ANY AT&T sim card and will activate with no problems.

There is a requirement that AT&T started last summer that can lock the sim to the original phone in which it was activated for about 6 months. This happens only if the GoPhone was activated with the original sim that it came with IF it included bonus airtime credit such as $15 or even $50. If you try and use this sim in the iPhone, it will not activate and you will not get service until the 6 months is over.

To get past this, you can simply go to AT&T and tell them you either lost the sim or damaged it and they will activate a new one for you. You can now take that sim and put it in the iPhone.

Data can also work with the prepaid sim and you will need a modified carrier file uploaded to the phone if you want to access the net. You can buy data packages on prepaid, 1MB for $5 or 100MB for $19.99. If you want to use data on your phone, on your phone using Safari, go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz/#_Custom and find the AT&T carrier and upload the update to your phone, it's very easy to do. Reboot the phone and data will now work on the phone.

MMS will also work on the 3G and 3GS phones without doing any mods to the phone and you don't have to have a data plan to send MMS. AT&T has data enabled on all GoPhone by default (pay per use) so MMS will always work as long as you have a texting package such as 200 for $5.00 or unlimited for $20.

If you are using firmware version 2.2.1 on your 3G, you don't need the carrier file to use data, it will just work but the iPhone will need to be unlocked to use the GoPhone sim.

If you are using firmware 3.0 and above, the phone needs the carrier file I listed above to use data but the phone doesn't need to be unlocked and will activate with any AT&T sim.

To use a GoPhone sim in the original iPhone, the phone needs to be unlocked.

Hope this helps! :)

Hello, your information was extremely helpful, because I purchased the cheapest go phone a few hours ago to place it in my iPhone 3GS and it says "No Service", I am guessing that the SIM card is locked to the Go Phone for six months, therefore, do you know if a new SIM card has a cost if I say I lost it? Thank you!

New SIM runs you about $15.

Also there is no reason to do the gophone phone and swap the SIM to iphone route any longer. You can walk in with the iphone and say sign me up for gophone smartphone now. They don't advertise it but now that they have the smartphone plans it is allowed.

That sounds almost too good to be true!

Be aware you will run into a lot of poorly trained ATT reps that won't be aware of this and are simply used to saying no iphone on go phone. My store had to look it up while I was there, at least they were willing to do that. If they absolutely won't do it try another store or just buy the SIM and call in to do it.

I did the standard sim in my 3gs and cut it when I upgraded to the 4.

Thanks MaxBurn for the info. I did the Gophone swap in August on my 3GS. Nice to know that I'm "legal" now.

However I believe the $50/mo unlimited prepaid plan is NOT for smartphones - unless you use the swap technique.

ATT only offers measured prepaid Data Plans for smartphones.

Yes, as they say on the page there.

As they do scan the normal contracts and add smartphone plans to people on post paid plans that just swap a sim into an iphone you would think they are scanning the prepaid stuff too. No idea what they would do, maybe just turn off your data.
