Hell no, that would be a disaster - for all the reasons others previously stated, in addition to the fact that our media is increasingly controlled/influenced by central monolithic corporations, which I feel is a serious systemic problem, even affecting local affiliates.

Remember what happened to CNN when Ted Turner got pushed out, it's since deteriorated into a circus show.

I also agree these companies should not be permitted to become so "big" -- have we learned nothing from the banking institutions, translate that into objective information reporting getting worse.

On a side note, isn't it "strange" that the nightly news reporting from both ABC and NBC are virtually identical. I see a pattern.

This crap just needs to stop. The FCC needs a moratorium on any company who controls the transmission of broadband or media services to own or invest in any content creation.

I
I'm sure AT&T won't pass that savings along to customers, but from a regulatory perspective, I don't see any major issues with it.
I'm sure the feds will put limitations on exclusivity arrangements for content to prevent AT&T from blocking other carriers from getting TW content.
won't the advertisers insist on the new company making those super hit shows available to as many consumers as possible?
They won't want to piss off the ad slingers just to keep shows to themselves espcially where AT&T is not the dominant player or even a player in cable/dsl unless their grand plan is that they want everything delivered over Cell/mobile but can their network cope with it espcially with widespread 4K coming soon.

Because ComCrust bought NBC, now AT&T has to buy CNN, and Time Warner? Why? Isn't 'the media' screwed up enough?

I'd like to see a government that would stop these deals cold...

In 1983, 90% of American media sources were owned by 50 companies.

In 2011, 90% of American media sources were owned by 6 companies.

And we are seeing the power of this consolidation of media in this election in the two candidates the media pushed for.

It won't happen. These same media megacorporations help the politicians get elected and they aren't going to rock the boat.

Will Don Lemon be the next Chunk Fraud? I shudder to think about it...

Everything seems to be morphing into 'reality teevee'. Less filling, and less taste than just about anything else. The world is watching, and I'm sure not comfortable with this, although we will be more easily led into the Next World War(tm).

You do realize that Time Warner and Time Warner CABLE are NOT the same company right?

I thought Time Warner Cable was bought by BrightHouse, or someone...

Time Warner is into media, right. What people watch?

Time Warner cable is owned by Charter and is being renamed Spectrum.

TW Cable must suck, then. Charter is the most ass backwards ISP I've ever seen. Up until last summer (and maybe still today, I'm not sure), Charter wanted to charge me $120/month for 100 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up. Imagine uploading 15,000 photos to iCloud with a 5 Mbps upstream pipe. It was painful, but I did it last year.

As soon as AT&T was finished installing fiber in my neighborhood late last summer, I signed up and I now pay $70/month for 1 Gbps up and down. I hope Charter has lost all of my neighbors' business, as well. They're an awful company.

Do people actually read the headlines? I think the article headline makes it clear this isn't the cable company but the media company.

Many posters here seemingly do not like the move because of the companies getting too big, monopolistic etc. But I already saw the suggestions in the media that Apple should bid for TW. I wonder how local crowd would look at such development should it happen?
