Three in the U.K. not supporting.

I have a Three personal SIM and Vodafone SIM for my company mobile.

Neither of which support eSIM.

Actually, support in the U.K. is pretty awful.

Would you recommend Gigsky? I'm in the same boat, travel often to Scotland and need a solution. $10 a day with VZW gets pricey

eSim

Every carrier except TMO charges an upgrade fee. Your argument is irrelevant since it's not unique to ATT.
Wait, what?!
Swapping the SIM on my own without going through the carrier and they still charge you? What world did you get that from?

Just did it in NYC AT&T today (12/06), btw, I am PREPAID/GoPhone user. Some representatives may tell you some bs that only post-paid users can do it, it's not real. I am live on it and it works with my GoPhone.
Moving on, it seems your luck may vary store by store, the one on 52nd w/ Park told me they are having issues and they cannot give me an eSim and to try again on Monday.
I immediately called the store on 56th and Lex and they told me they can do it.
In their defense, everybody is new to this thing, so try to be a bit more patient as all the issues and information is ironed out.

The one on Lex did help but it cost me 20$ ..... at that point I was already tired and busy and since it was a store that was actually doing it, didn't want to miss the opportunity and payed. I know there are people who did it for free or for $5.

Very impotant. iMessage (on Mac also) works with only one phone number at a time. Which sounds normal right ? Problem in my case was that for some reason the iPhone picked the secondary phone (that I did not want to use) as my iMessage line, so I had to deregister that secondary phone number in Apple ID settings on my phone. And then register the new one. A bit of a hassle but once you understand how the process works it takes you 5 minutes.

Valley fair store success though I was the first one and had to tell them it was possible.

Word of warning... if you put your work phone sim into the tray before activating your esim, it assigns all your numbers in recents to your work phone even if you later say personal should be your primary.

iMessage is only for one number? Wierd! Looks like App twins issue hence WhatsApp also can take only one number instead of both SIMs!

As far as I can see right now, that is the case. I haven't digged too deep in the settings but I think it was "pre-announced" that would be the case. I am sure Apple will upgrade the dual sim along the way with iOS updates and future iPhones.

Also, the moment you are on a call on one line (in my case my main line is the eSIM), the other automatically shuts down, I can see the No Service tag, and instantly resumes after I finish the call. I remember reading an article somewhere that we are able to actually more eSIMs than just one ?

Thanks for sharing the info. Was this to start a new AT&T subscription, or to replace the SIM (from card to eSIM) of your existing subscription?

This was to transfer an existing AT&T subscription from a physical SIM to the eSIM

Meaning Dual SIM Standby mode. With Dual SIM active mode you could receive calls in both numbers at all times. I think this is typically hardware settings (single receiver vs two receivers) that cannot be fixed with software. But in iOS this may be different.

I stopped by an AT&T store this morning to transfer my AT&T postpaid line from the physical SIM to the eSIM. The rep said the system did prompt to charge me $5, but she waived it for me, since it was the first time she was asked to move a line to the eSIM, and it took longer than expected. In the end, I’m now using the eSIM, which is perfect timing, since I’m heading out of the country next week and can now insert a foreign SIM card.

Can you describe the process she used? Yours is the first post I've seen that explicitly combines a postpaid line doing this transfer in a store without it being escalated to a bunch of tech support, so I'm curious about how it SHOULD look when I do it this weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't know every step, because she made some mistakes. For example, when following the directions, she tried to add my IMEI as a new line, which didn't work, because my plan is actually at the maximum number of line already. I do remember that I was texted a security code first, which I read back to her. Eventually, I scanned the QR code, which successfully added AT&T to my iPhone as a secondary carrier, but there was no phone number associated with it, so I removed the physical SIM card and rebooted the phone, which still didn't help. Finally, I suggested to her that she scan the ICCID on the blue card and apply it to my line by replacing the existing ICCID, and after rebooting the phone, I was up and running.

I transferred a postpaid line from physical SIM to eSIM at the Harvard Market store in Seattle last night. According to the staff in the store, I was their first request for eSIM activation. The process was very simple - they got the QR card, verified my account, made the changes in their computer, and then all I had to do was scan the QR code.

Unfortunately, they did charge me the $5 MSRP for the eSIM activation/QR code.

I’ve been eSim -ed. FINALLY. ONE iPhone

Walked into an AT&T corporate store this afternoon and converted line to an eSIM.
Took 10 minutes and cost me nothing.
The rep knew what he was doing.
Simply pulled current SIM card, scannned blue QR code card into their system and transferred my number to that eSIM. He said it basically the same process as a regular SIM swap with one extra step on their end.
Once it was registered on their system, I scanned the QR code on the blue card (make sure you’re on AT&T store WiFi, activation will fail without a data connection) and that was it. He made a test call to me cell to verify it was active.

What happens when you travel internationally with an eSim? Usually I am able to use a local carrier abroad, under AT&T’s $10 international roaming plan. Will that work with eSim?
