I was in my nearest apple store yesterday because I had a Genius appointment and I overheard one of the geniuses say the cell service and internet will be a little inconsistent today and the sound of drilling in the back of the store was pretty loud.

But at&t isn't planning to put LTE in Fresno yet, we just have hspa+ but Verizon already has LTE in fresno.

Apple would never make a jump like thy were holding all the right cards. Chances are if this is true then they have something extremely secret up their sleeve.

Show me one instance of Verizon throttling users. Top 5% data rate limiting is a reasonable prevention from data hogs. Using more data is so much easier on LTE devices since you can stream any video all day long with the same user experience as doing it on your home internet connection. No buffering, low jitter, high bandwidth downlink.

Huh ? So you agree it's smart for Verizon to throttle users at the top 5%. I agree too. So what's the point of your question ?

Has anyone thought it could be for lte enabled MacBooks? Who to say apple hasn't created a new MacBook that is truly mobile?

hoping for LTE iphone 5

I'm hoping this means the iphone 5 will have LTE. It could be for a future LTE iPad.

As for those who don't want the iphone 5 to have LTE since it is not available in their areas, that's absurd assuming it doesn't cost extra. Just turn off the 4G (to reduce power consumption) and you have a relatively future proof phone for when 4G comes to your area. My area is one of the 5 AT&T cities getting LTE this summer, but even if I wasn't, considering most people do 2 year contracts...it makes sense to be able to access the LTE near the end of your contract.

But if that's the case then it would be the iPhone 4G because it will have 4G capabilities. Much like the iPhone 2 gen was iPhone 3G because it was the first iPhone with 3G capabilities.

Good for you. Now show me one instance of Verizon actually throttling someone. THanks.

Oh, so are you saying Verizon placed these new statements on their website as a big joke ? They don't really plan to throttle the top 5% of data users ?

Would love LTE, but not if I means the phone can't last a full day - and I think apple agrees with me. We won't see it until that trade off is gone.

Huh ? Is that why Apple was one of the first manufacturers to produce laptops with the Thunderbolt I/O technology ?

Yeah but Thunderbolt's one thing and LTE's another.
Didn't Apple have control over Thunderbolt when they designed it with Intel? And since they could include it in every one of their Mac products, they could effectively push out that standard, maintaining uniformity across the user base. But LTE isn't in Apple's hands, and they probably have no control over it other than having the radio in the iPhone. It just doesn't seem likely to me, in my limited knowledge at least...

They are reserving the right to throttle data hogs. In corporate world it's called legalizing their future actions for sake of preserving the network performance. Don't expect you to know or understand any of that.

The issue isn't having a standard. LTE is already a standard. The issue is the chipset size and battery life. The first generation LTE devices had neither. But the new generation LTE chipsets that Apple might be using, might be much improved.

Exactly!! So who are to know when they will be throttling these users ? Do you work for Verizon ?

Exactly what? What are you on man?
You've made a post telling us that Verizon does throttle their users. I'm still challenging you to give me one instance of that actually happening.

Yes, you are so correct. Verizon does not plan to ever throttle the top 5% of data users. The new wording online is just a big joke.
