What is the point of those overseas posting what they are charged, when the article is specifically detailing the cost per a U.S. carrier? Regardless of what amount you pay overseas, said amount (from a different carrier) has no bearing on the current offering of AT &T.

Edited to add: Will this new offering be enough to draw new subscribers and keep many of those already customers loyal? It doesn't look like a significant offering to me. Looks more like a smoke and mirrors offering.

And here I am, sitting over here with my 24GB data plan on Verizon for $64/mo plus line access charges, wondering how I got so lucky.

This actually ends up being more expensive in many common scenarios, because the device access fee is now higher. This easily wipes away any savings.

For example:

Old 15GB plan, 4 lines shared: $100 + 4 x $15 = $160/month
New 16GB plan, 4 lines shared: $90 + 4 x $20 = $170/month
Dropping cost of data, but raising line access fees, sneaky weasels.

There are other scenarios that work out better for consumers with the new plan. That's the way it works when pricing formulas change-- some win, some lose, and the losers complain louder.

The winners could just as well complain about how their previous high rates were subsidizing yours all this time.

I'm sure some people who don't use much data will get hosed by this, but as someone on the 15GB family share plan, this works our wonderfully for me. I'll get 1GB more for $10 less. AND no risk of overage if I approach my data cap? I'm thrilled.
no you pay 5 more per line. there is no savings with most tier plans. I hate AT&T and I hate them. ugh if only T-mobile had better coverage.

Might not be a bad thing for those of us who need data, but don't need fast data. I rarely use more data than just streaming music at the gym and maybe here and there browsing the web. The only reason I keep my 20gb is my daughter loves youtube, and even with the non HD quality checked off in the app it still eats up data like nothing else. I wonder how youtube will run over 128? Now that the line fees are $20 across the board I'm tempted to drop down to 5gb if 128 will be a sufficient speed.

How many people on your plan? If you have more than 2, you will be paying more.

Looking at my bill, we have 20GB (10 + 10) at $100. And 6 lines at $90 for $190 total. I cant even drop to a lower tier plan and make it work. If I went with 16GB, I would be paying $210 per month... 4GB less and $20 more. Hell, I'd have to drop all the way back to 6GB to keep my bill from increasing if I switched to this new setup.

Save money my tooshy!

That's my issue, Tmobile sucks where I am, otherwise I'd switch in a second. I'm actually considering switching to Verizon as even ATT has issues at my home.

This is a sign to me that new Apple Watches will be independent from the iPhone and ATT wants to make sure they get more money from device connect plans.

BTW: does this also affect 2 year plan people as well? After 2 years they would have to jump to this, right?
Probably not. AT&T hasn't forced people onto new plans, like Verizon has. They still let us have the old grandfathered unlimited plans.

T-Mobile could just up their rates and use that new revenue to speed up their network expansion (that's been ongoing for the last decade+), right?

Well, mostly it's to say how little they pay in relation to what Americans pay, for what they get.

Of course, what one pays and gets needs to be put into context.

Americans can pay the same rate and use the same carrier over 3.5 million square miles, plus free talk and text to almost any other developed nation. Our average income is also higher than most other nations. We actually get one of the best values in the world.

I'll stick to the grandfathered AT&T plan instead, but thanks! ;)

I wonder if AT&T has plans to drop all grandfathered plans since the number of such subscribers is probably really small by this point. It would lead to uniformity among plans and less complexity, something any company would prefer.

Is this just new to some markets? I've been on a 3GB for $40/m Mobile Share Value plan for about a year now...the only difference is I am paying the $25 (instead of the 'new' $20) access fee.

I think the $20 per line fee (that most of the U.S. carriers charge is nothing more than the carriers squeezing out more easy profit and gouging the customers. I would like to see said fee at the $5.00 level, although I don't expect that to happen.

so my access charge would go from $15 to $20 and my 15GB plan would add an extra 1GB and decrease $10 BUT IF I go over, my speeds are 128kbps?

Here in Thailand, I'm paying around 500 baht ($14) for 10GB LTE. That includes voice and other usual things.

I went to a carrier the other day to check what offers plan they have..they said the starting point is 2 GB and bla bla, after they finished talking..I told them what about unlimited internet and they start laughing, I don't know what was so funny I was being serious :)

First these ***** remove subsidized pricing but still put their branding on expensive phones, and now they're raising data pricing.

Yeah.

Old 15GB plan, 4 lines shared: $100 + 4 x $15 = $160/month
New 16GB plan, 4 lines shared: $90 + 4 x $20 = $170/month
My Plan 20GB, 4 lines shared: $100 + 4 X $15 = 160/month

I plan on keeping that for quite some time.. especially w/ rollover data. I remember when I originally had 10GB for 100 bucks, but because of the pressure applied by T-Mobile I was able to get AT&T to double my data and keep the price.
