Protest Now!

We need Wikipedia, Google, Reddit, etc. to protest this now, in addition to the SOPA protests!

ATT knows I and most iPhone users use a little more than the 200MB plan and nowhere near 2GB and much less 3GB. So my bill is going to be jacked up by $5/mo and I won't see any benefit!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Does that mean that if you upgrade your phone, you have to choose between these plans (because getting a new phone means a new contract). That's a pretty big change from how they have been operating, which is basically if you like what you have, you can continue it.

I personally like my 2GB for $25 plan, and my wife fits fine under the $15 200MB plan. I really don't want to have to pay $10 more per month once we upgrade phones...

You can typically keep the existing plan (such as unlimited) or use new ones when you renew.

I wish they had a 1 gb plan, I use about 400-600mb a month, so I am not using half the data of my 2 gb plan, but I would go over on the lower plan.

Across the board price increase. For no reason. This doesn't serve customers in the slightest. Nor does this compete with Verizon's 4GB for $30 or Sprint's unlimited plan.
Actually Verizon's 4GB for $30 only applies for 4G phones.

AT&T's new plan for 3GB for $30 (while not great) is a slightly better deal for iPhone users...

Wow its expensive in the states. Thought that with such a big market u should have the cheapest in the world with competition and all.

Remember a few years ago when it was $30 for unlimited service....

Remember a few years ago when gas was <$2 a gallon?

More smartphone users = increased data traffic = more employees required to maintain network = more revenue needing to be generated to maintain profit margins.

You can keep your existing plan, just like some people can keep their unlimited plan.

I thought it said $50 for 5GB, with $10 extra for wi-fi hotspot.

Please re-read the article again. Carefully.

Honestly I'm just getting so tired of being raped in the ass by these people.
Someone needs to step in and set them right. This is so bloody annoying.

Not long before we're on 3 year terms.

We have only 4 major providers, running mostly incompatible networks. There's better competition in Europe because you opened it up to foreign competitors sooner than we did.

More smartphone users = increased data traffic = more employees required to maintain network = more revenue needing to be generated to maintain profit margins.

more users=corporate jags the opportunity to scam the american people

according to basic algebra, it would then follow that...

more smartphone users = more revenue generated to maintain profit margins...

it's nothing more than money grab.

what's the big deal? you pay 30 bucks for 2gb for verizon.. and sprint is lol.. so that doesn't count unless you like being in the slow lane...

and don't say you can get 4gb for 30 in verzion because thats only for a limited time and only limited to lte phones...

anyway you put it, at&t is still the premier "iphone" carrier right now, that might change later on when the lte iphone comes out, but as of right now, you get more for your money with at&t and way faster data as well... sprint is cheaper so if your wallet is hurting, sprint is a choice but verizon is overated and pricier...

meanwhile in France

We've just got a new intrant in the world of French mobile carrier, named Free. All major carriers have since adapted their offer to match Free's plan.

Here's what Free offers : only 2 plans.

EUR 02,00/mo = 60min + 60 sms, no data
EUR 19,99/mo = unlimited voice calls to France, Europe, the US (mobile+landline), unlimited texts, unlimited MMS, 3GB data including tethering, P2P, VOIP, unlimited hotspot access.

And no commitment (you're free to leave) in either case.

Those plans come without a Phone but you can either buy an unlocked iPhone 4S for EUR 629, use your older phone or take a credit with Free which'll cost you EUR 90 more than buying the iPhone cash over 24mo.

sounds like it's ripe time for apple to launch an mvno... only because they're not afraid to shake things up and revolutionize the market (ie. original iPhone launched amongst myriad of crappy devices)

it would at least be interesting to see what they could do with it.

Nothing but a price hike and such a big contradiction.

First you say users are using less data and try to enforce the limits. Now they're using more data.

They're free, I suppose, to do whatever they wish. I switched to AT&T for the iPhone and was really happy with them. When they canceled the unlimited plan I was annoyed, especially because I lost mine while going for a time w/o a smart phone.

This is just annoying. I've no loyalty for AT&T anymore. I'm under contract now and for a time, but if the options look comparable when I'm not, I won't think twice about leaving.

And therein lies the rub. Verizon's prices don't look any better and I can't even get the data cap details from Sprint's website.

I ported one of my AT&T lines to Verizon last week and it's actually about $$15 more than the unlimited plan I had with AT&T. Part of the increase was that I had to pay now $10 for 1000 SMS when I had 200 for $5 with AT&T.

Wish I had the unlimited data before they took it away.

Dont because they throttle you when you hit 2gb, so in essence youre paying $30 for 2gb if you've been grandfathered into the unlimited plan. I'll be leaving at&t and they can stick their unlimited data plan up there sopa...

The obvious question here:

Will current iPhone users (those with the $25/month unlimited data plan) still be able to pay $25 for unlimited data when they upgrade to a new iPhone, or will they pay have to pay $30 to keep the unlimited data?

I've never had a prob. keeping my unlimited plan. It would be dumb of AT&T to stop grandfathering b/c for many it's the reason they stay with them. I know I'd give Sprint a serious look if I couldn't keep my plan next upgrade.

Why is everyone crying about this?

It affects NEW users, not current users - and you still keep your plan when you upgrade devices. Verizon will follow suit soon anyway.

Anyone personally tried to roll out a LTE network across the US before? It's pricey, and far easier (cheaper) in Europe where there is less land mass and more interoperability.
