How does this work in reality? If I trade in a phone to get a "free" iPhone 16 Pro, pay $120 over the next 12-months then turn in my 16P for a 17P, I can get the 17P for $120 again the following year (until they jack up the price of Next or change the status-quo of trades) or would the trade-in be valued differently give it is only 1/3 paid off?For those using NextUp, AT&T tweaked the program.
Now $10/month, but you're "eligible for smartphone deals" after 33% paid off.

I don't mind, 3 year cycles make more sense to me tbh. I'm also not worried about being "locked in" for 36 months since i have zero plans to leave ATT anytime soon. They are the best (in my area....)It's exceptionally annoying all the carriers have switched to 36-month financing terms with no options to adjust.
I like this better. For those using NextUp, AT&T tweaked the program.

Good question! I hadn't thought about how that impacts those who get a "free" iPhone. How does this work in reality? I'm on UE as well and see the new plan, too.I have the older Unlimited Elite plan with included HBO Max, and when I configure my new iPhone 16 Pro for pre-order, it's forcing me to choose one of the new plans. Has anyone else run into this issue? Think there's any way around it, or if you want the new phone, you'll be forced to give up Max?
I have this plan also and they were trying their hardest to get me to switch when I was on the phone with them. Not happening!I'm on UE as well and see the new plan, too.
I'm hoping that when pre-orders 'go live' tomorrow morning I'll be able to stay on UE.
I still have the option of staying on installments/Next Up or paying full price. So for some reason I’m not able to do monthly installments, I have to buy my phone full price now?! When did this happen??!
Have you been late with any payments? So for some reason I’m not able to do monthly installments, I have to buy my phone full price now?! When did this happen??!
Could be lots reasons or error. So for some reason I’m not able to do monthly installments, I have to buy my phone full price now?! When did this happen??!
Carriers always will get the better part of any ’deal’ or promotion. Want to give the least amount to try and keep you as customer. It's exceptionally annoying all the carriers have switched to 36-month financing terms with no options to adjust.
Hmmm, I am just hearing about the newer next plan. Will need to check out. Cynical when comes to carrier deals. They always want the ’upper hand’. I don’t think it’s worth the next payment unless want real options to get new device after 1 year.I like this better.
It used to be an extra $6 a month for Next Up and required 50% paid off before becoming eligible to upgrade.
Since it’s a 36 month plan, I just paid a lump sum of $214 to ensure I’m “eligible” after 12 months.
This new plan is $10 (i.e. $4 more) a month for Next Up, but since you can upgrade at 33% paid off, I won’t need to pay that lump sum after 12 months.
If my math is right, if I want to upgrade next September (which I almost certainly will), I will save $166.
Another policy in the carrier ‘playbook’ for getting want they want. Might have to call to get. I will have to look around. They should have it written in their t&c. Might be eligible plan but they don’t have to make easy to keep.I have the older Unlimited Elite plan with included HBO Max, and when I configure my new iPhone 16 Pro for pre-order, it's forcing me to choose one of the new plans.
