For those using NextUp, AT&T tweaked the program.

Now $10/month, but you're "eligible for smartphone deals" after 33% paid off.

How does this work in reality? If I trade in a phone to get a "free" iPhone 16 Pro, pay $120 over the next 12-months then turn in my 16P for a 17P, I can get the 17P for $120 again the following year (until they jack up the price of Next or change the status-quo of trades) or would the trade-in be valued differently give it is only 1/3 paid off?

Is it only the 12 Pro and on for the $1000 credits towards an Iphone Pro? The fine print on ATT site shows 12 and 12 pro? (could have sworn) they stated it was just the 12 pro in the keynote

It's exceptionally annoying all the carriers have switched to 36-month financing terms with no options to adjust.
I don't mind, 3 year cycles make more sense to me tbh. I'm also not worried about being "locked in" for 36 months since i have zero plans to leave ATT anytime soon. They are the best (in my area....)

I like this better.

It used to be an extra $6 a month for Next Up and required 50% paid off before becoming eligible to upgrade.

Since it’s a 36 month plan, I just paid a lump sum of $214 to ensure I’m “eligible” after 12 months.

This new plan is $10 (i.e. $4 more) a month for Next Up, but since you can upgrade at 33% paid off, I won’t need to pay that lump sum after 12 months.

If my math is right, if I want to upgrade next September (which I almost certainly will), I will save $166.

Good question! I hadn't thought about how that impacts those who get a "free" iPhone.

OTOH, with Next Up, you're financing the full retail price of the iPhone (at 0%) over three years+$10/month for NU. Are you still 'eligible' for Next Up with a "free" iPhone?

The 36 month is a big turnoff for me but if I were to trade in my 13 pro max, after 2 years will I just have to pay the difference within the last year? As in will I still get the bill credits for my third year?

Got an email from AT&T yesterday that allows me to go in and configure my preorder and add it to the cart so it's ready to check out tomorrow morning. Don't remember this happening before.

I have the older Unlimited Elite plan with included HBO Max, and when I configure my new iPhone 16 Pro for pre-order, it's forcing me to choose one of the new plans. Has anyone else run into this issue? Think there's any way around it, or if you want the new phone, you'll be forced to give up Max?

I'm on UE as well and see the new plan, too.

I'm hoping that when pre-orders 'go live' tomorrow morning I'll be able to stay on UE.

So for some reason I’m not able to do monthly installments, I have to buy my phone full price now?! When did this happen??!

I have this plan also and they were trying their hardest to get me to switch when I was on the phone with them. Not happening!

I still have the option of staying on installments/Next Up or paying full price.

I tried prepping a preorder on Apple.com but I want to do Next Up and that's not an option. I found some fine print on there "Customers purchasing this offer through Apple cannot add the Next Up Anytime option", so I guess I'll take a gamble that AT&T site will work smoothly tomorrow. Haven't had great luck in the past and much prefer the Apple.com or Apple Store app purchasing experience.

Hmmm, I am just hearing about the newer next plan. Will need to check out. Cynical when comes to carrier deals. They always want the ’upper hand’. I don’t think it’s worth the next payment unless want real options to get new device after 1 year.

Hey guys, I’m looking to trade in my old IPhone 12 Pro for a 16 pro Max with ATT. I’m a bit nervous though, as I have a small chip on the tippy top of my top camera lense.
I was hoping to get some input on whether it will affect my trade in. It doesn’t affect the camera function, and it’s not all the way through so it’s just cosmetic chip. Any thoughts?. I have no idea how strict ATT is with trade ins, I’ve always just bought my phones outright in the past, and I’d rather avoid the $100 apple care deductible if I can 😅. I attached an image, it’s hard for me to photograph it ironically.

Another policy in the carrier ‘playbook’ for getting want they want. Might have to call to get. I will have to look around. They should have it written in their t&c. Might be eligible plan but they don’t have to make easy to keep.
