I tried prepping a preorder on Apple.com but I want to do Next Up and that's not an option. I found some fine print on there "Customers purchasing this offer through Apple cannot add the Next Up Anytime option", so I guess I'll take a gamble that AT&T site will work smoothly tomorrow. Haven't had great luck in the past and much prefer the Apple.com or Apple Store app purchasing experience.

I've had great luck with the AT&T site the last four or five upgrades.

They usually open 'early' and I'm done with two upgrades before the Apple site or app are open.

YMMV, etc.

For those using NextUp, AT&T tweaked the program.

Now $10/month, but you're "eligible for smartphone deals" after 33% paid off.

I like this better.

It used to be an extra $6 a month for Next Up and required 50% paid off before becoming eligible to upgrade.

Since it’s a 36 month plan, I just paid a lump sum of $214 to ensure I’m “eligible” after 12 months.

This new plan is $10 (i.e. $4 more) a month for Next Up, but since you can upgrade at 33% paid off, I won’t need to pay that lump sum after 12 months.

If my math is right, if I want to upgrade next September (which I almost certainly will), I will save $166.
Here some fine print. We are kinda stuck always paying the extra $10. For instance. If trade in next year then decide just to keep device till end of promotion then will have paid $360 extra other will cancel credits if want to cancel next.
Req's elig. smartphone on the AT&T Installment Plan with extra $10/mo. Next Up Anytime feature, qualified credit and eligible svc. Upgrade eligible with smartphone deal with qualified turn-in and one-third of device balance paid. Must re-add Next Up Anytime on new smartphone installment. If Next Up Anytime is canceled, promotional credits on new smartphone will stop. Offers vary by device. Limits & restr's apply.

You can get the new iPhone every year for only $120 plus device tax. The catch is you are stuck with next up anytime. To get out of it you’ll have to go the three years (paying $360 for one phone), or pay off your phone early (more than $360). Still better than paying outright for the phone. If you don’t need a new phone every year, the $1000 promotion without next up would be better for you.

Hey guys, I’m looking to trade in my old IPhone 12 Pro for a 16 pro Max with ATT. I’m a bit nervous though, as I have a small chip on the tippy top of my top camera lense.
I was hoping to get some input on whether it will affect my trade in. It doesn’t affect the camera function, and it’s not all the way through so it’s just cosmetic chip. Any thoughts?. I have no idea how strict ATT is with trade ins, I’ve always just bought my phones outright in the past, and I’d rather avoid the $100 apple care deductible if I can 😅. I attached an image, it’s hard for me to photograph it ironically.

INAL, YMMV, etc but that seems like it would be OK. As you said, it doesn't affect function. They typically allow some cosmetic defects, particularly for older models.

I'm an AT&T customer and a 2-year upgrader. I am upgrading my 14PM this time, and owed $460 to pay it off. I figure the NextUp would cost me $240 over 2 years. Cheaper than paying it off the 3rd year. Am I thinking of it wrong?

UPDATE: It just dawned on me. Paying it off allows me to trade it in for the $1000 discount, and essentially pay $5.56/mo for the 16PM. If I did the NextUp, I can turn the phone in without paying it off, but there's no trade in value. So I'm losing the $1000 discount.

I think as a 2-year upgrader, I'll stick with how I've been doing it. NextUp would save me about $200 to upgrade, but I'd still have to pay off the phone in order to trade it in.

You’re kinda in the middle. Next up is good for getting new devices every year.
You don’t have to pay off device to trade in, if on next and getting new device.

Don’t forget that folks that do an early upgrade with Next Up also get bill credits as well. I don’t see them listed for the 16 but someone on another forum confirmed- up to $500 for Pro models and up to $350 for regular 16. I have gotten them the last 2 upgrades- although I have had to call CS multiple times. That is another savings as well.

Well to trade it in and get the full $1000 off the new phone? It wouldn't need to be paid off? I think I can "turn in" the old phone without it being paid off, but get no discount on the new one.

Next Up Anytime says that once 33% of the device is paid off (12 months), you’ll get access to the smartphone deals (theoretically $1000). You can upgrade your device and will not have to pay the remaining 66%.

It makes no sense to go longer in this program than 12 months. If you don’t upgrade, you’re still paying $10 a month - but no new phone. If you do upgrade, new phone and still paying $10 a month.

Not getting it either, and I have not received any targeted email from AT&T telling me to upgrade and how to get ready to preorder.

my email says ‘Exclusive invitation’ I am not
pre ordering from AT&T but it would be helpful to know who they are sending out to. Maybe folks who are upgrade eligible? 🤷🏾‍♀️

You can't go through to Checkout. Both the web and the myATT app both leave your selections in your "Cart" for tomorrow.

It could be from you entering your email address to be notified or based on your device(s) being eligible for an upgrade based on your Account notification settings.

I don’t understand , how can notifications stop it, I mean has anybody gotten past that step

Mine wont let me past the page where u configure which phone you want and the trade in info. There’s no option to save to a cart or anything. Just says “coming soon”
