I ordered mine through my key contact business manager via business premier. She told me to avoid the lauch chaos and just call her friday morning and she'd order it for me, up to 5 phones, if you will :D for my business and have it shipped overnight with no upgrade activation fee:D:D!!!! But you have to have a corporate business account with ATT and have to be the Telecom manager and/or CRU, no IRUs.
 
Why endure the hassle. I'm just going to get one in 3-4 weeks.

Life will go on without being one of the first to get one. Americans
are so materially motivated.
 
I just called ATT's main 800 number and asked about the order placed yesterday. Luckily, it will ship today and we will have it on Monday. It was a pretty simple call. Just give them your account number and they can tell you if you are one of the unlucky ones on back order. Good luck!
 
The problem at the AT&T store I went to was that they wouldn't tell us how many phones they started with (even though there were 150 in line by 8am) and when they did run out, they only told the people that were in earshot of the front of the line.

Interesting, same issue for me this morning, even after asking, the rep looked at me and said "we're not telling anyone. What a waste of three hours.
 
People just need to settle down. It's only a phone. Yes, I'm as excited as everybody else to get one but waiting outside stores for hours on end, many days in a row is absurd. Give it two weeks and everybody who wants an iphone will have one.

I believe the issue is that the reps will not tell those standing in line when they open store how many phone they have, therefore making individuals wait until it's their turn or they start seeing people walk out without phones. ow about a little courtesy for my time, the customer -
 
me neither. Nadda, Zip. try tracking with order # etc but nothing comes up either.

For folks trying to check order status online, the zip code you provide maybe the zipcode of the store, not of your address. That worked for me. Since they're shipping to the store, that apparently what the system is using.

Does anyone have a theory what the order number is? Mine is a low number, 56. Does that mean 56th at that store today? I'm surprised its so low and wonder what it means.

-wake up at 4am, drive two hours to a ATT store in las vegas
miss the 215 exit which put me behind getting me there at 7:15am.

-50 people in front of me and when their is just 10 in front of me (4hrs later)they run out of phones!!!

ATT rep tells me that they can order me one to come in 7-10 B days (meaning another trip to Las Vegas)
Rep butchers order and takes (NO JOKE) two hours to get it right!

-4pm I arrive back to my city with no iphone.

What did I learn? I'm still working on that one. maybe I'll figure it out on my trip back to vegas to get the phone spending another $70 on gas.

-I thought I'd also mention that I find out today (Saturday) that the nearby mac store (in las vegas) never ran out the whole day.:mad:

It was more of a I-jackass day for me than a I-day

Damn, that sucks! I thought I had a bad day!
 
I waited on line today from 9:30 AM til noon at my local AT&T store only to find out that they only had the 8GB.:(

So I had to order my black 16GB on direct fulfillment and I got priority shipping so it should be here in 2-5 days they said. I hope it's here by Tuesday or at least Wednesday, because I'm going away next Thursday for a few days.:(
 
Order number with the store's zip code worked for me. I'm backordered too... Oh well, I can wait. We got an 8gb iPhone which I'm playing with now. The 16gb black is what is backordered. Once its in, it will be mine, but I have no problems using the 8gb (my wife's) until then.
 
One of my eligible lines attempted to go in for an upgrade today at a Corp. store and they were all sold out. In addition, he wanted a 16gb black, but all of those models are backordered at the head end wearhouse.

Whatever though, maybe next week once things calm down.
 
human will tell you the same thing as the automated system unless you could talk to someone at the fulfillment center

Well since our order was through the corporate business end it really helped me to speak to a human. he told me our two white iPhones are in stock and ready to go, but are being held up b/c the two black 16gb are on backorder. They expect to have them tomorrow. Automated system couldn't tell me that.

Don't hate AT&T...

Take it from someone who has been an employee with Cingular first, now AT&T...the only inventory we receive is whatever Apple decides to send us.
