My iPhone 5 64GB is worth $200. I have to get a phone at AT&T and can't do pre-order? Whereas I can sell my iPhone on craigslist or through some other options for $250-400. No thanks AT&T.

Yes, the minimum $200 for an iPhone 5 is not nearly as attractive as the $200 for my iPhone 4.

Just waiting to find out if it can only be done in store tomorrow or if I can do it online. Heard both answers so not sure what the truth is yet.

The trade in website is showing me $150 + $50 bonus for my wifes iPhone 5 16GB. The news articles said it would be good through the 30th so I am wondering if I am able to order tonight via apple.com and then just trade her phone in later in the month for the $200 gift card at my local AT&T Store

I'm checking with ATT but it sounds like a promotion card that you can only use for ATT products and services. It doesn't sound like Gazelle where they Paypal you cash or send you a check.

The ATT rep at the store said the promotion card can be used to apply towards your monthly bill. If true, that is as good as cash to me.

I'll take it if it's true. do we need to order the iPhone 6 through att or does it even matter about pre-order? just take your old iPhone in for credit?

Very true. I didn't think about it like that. Thanks! :D

Also, the ATT Rep on Twitter said you can use the ATT Promotion with Next.

I just sold my unlocked black 32gig iphone 5 for 310.00 few days ago on craigslist

I saw a unlocked black 16gb iPhone 5 sell for 355 on eBay earlier today. And I saw one with the same specs and a cracked screen sell for 275.

You're losing 13% between eBay and Paypal, but that's still way more than the 200ish that AT&T is offering.

I'll be happy if I end up with $250 from eBay. I used to buy and sell on Craigslist like crazy. Not so much anymore. Too much risk for small high value items.

But we need more confirmation about the promotion card being able to be used to pay your bill. I've had conflicting answers from ATT reps over the past 24 hours so I want to see it in writing.

The terms/conditions on the ATT website for the promotion cards states:

"The card can only be used to purchase AT&T products at AT&T owned and operated retail locations or for on-line purchases at www.att.com/wireless. Your AT&T Promotion Card cannot be used at AT&T authorized agent/retailer locations."

Does not state that it can be applied to your bill so I want that in writing from someone at ATT.

I went to my online ATT account to see what the payment options are. The good news is that one of the options to pay my bill is "promotion card". I'm feeling better that the trade-in promotion card can be used towards your monthly bill.

Here is a screenshot of the payment options:

I'm wondering about the att products only? can I buy a JBL bluetooth speaker or anything along those lines? ANYTHING in the store?

I have a 4S to trade in and am currently on the Next plan with an eligible upgrade.

I want to order the iPhone 6 Plus 128GB.

So, if I order online tonight at 3 am EST, there won't be an option to trade in my phone?

My fear is that AT&T will probably not carry the larger size in the store.

Unfortunately we can't get a clear answer from anyone at AT&T about the trade-in promotion being available online when orders begin tonight. Even if I did get an answer, after all the conflicting info I've seen today I would not rely on it. May just have to wait until the online orders go live and see what happens.

yea I don't think i'm going to chance it so i'll just pre-order through apple.com and maybe walk into an att store later to see about my old iPhone 4s.

This is what I just saw on Twitter about the promotion card.

Yea, I'd like to order online tonight and walk in tomorrow and get a card and not have any hidden "you need to order in store" deals.

I just had two different conversations with two different AT&T folks and there's definitely some inconsistency. The first was a voice conversation with an incredibly friendly representative who stated that she thought they could apply the device credit to the price of the new phone and lower the monthly finance charge of the new iPhone. For example, finance $450 over 20 months instead of $750. Or, she said it could be applied to pay for service if I preferred.

She suggested not pre-ordering.

Then I had the attached chat conversation. I did both because I was hoping to get the first answer in writing. :) It didn't work out too well. But, this answer is ok with me too because it looks like we might be ok to pre-order at least if we're ok with using the promo card for service.

The Trade-In program at AT&T owned and operated retail locations, including online at att.com, provides an AT&T Promotion Card that is valid for a minimum of 90 days from the date of issuance and will expire upon the date shown on the card.

The card can only be used to purchase AT&T products at AT&T owned and operated retail locations or for on-line purchases at www.att.com/wireless. Your AT&T Promotion Card cannot be used at AT&T authorized agent/retailer locations.

That's from the website for Terms and Conditions.

Yup.. Just found it in the T&C. I have two phones to trade in on two lines for a total of $500.

I guess I'll just pre order in the store. I may be back ordered but at least I'll get $200 for my iPhone 4.

The 90 days could be a problem. If I upgrade 2 lines / trade in 2 phones (both iPhone 4) I will get $400. The service portions of my bill for 3 lines on the 10GB Mobile Share = $121 each month. So 3 months = $363. I suppose I can use the other $37 for a case for the new phone.

I will be doing a pre-order for 2 iPhones tomorrow at corporate AT&T store. I called yesterday and ask if I can pre-orde in-store w/delivery to that store for pickup on 9/22 (out of town next weekend). Rep said that would be fine (a store closer to my home will not be doing in-store pre-orders).

The pre-order has to be paid in full (credit card) to process the order but charges don't hit till the new phones are picked up and activated. Then in the store at pickup I can trade-in my old iPhone 5s and apply the credit to the pre-order sale.

This is what I've been told - proof in the pudding.
