The 90 days could be a problem. If I upgrade 2 lines / trade in 2 phones (both iPhone 4) I will get $400. The service portions of my bill for 3 lines on the 10GB Mobile Share = $121 each month. So 3 months = $363. I suppose I can use the other $37 for a case for the new phone.

Two lines with 10GB should be $130/mo, no? $100 for the 10GB MSVP + $15/line. That would put you at $390. Still missing 10 bucks, but at least it's closer.

I get a 24% discount via employer on the $100 charge.

The trade in website is showing me $150 + $50 bonus for my wifes iPhone 5 16GB. The news articles said it would be good through the 30th so I am wondering if I am able to order tonight via apple.com and then just trade her phone in later in the month for the $200 gift card at my local AT&T Store

That's what I'm seeing. It doesn't mention it having to be tied together with the preorder on the website. Would be a lot more convienent to just preorder like usual tonight and trade the phone in after I receive my new phone for credit to use towards my monthly bill. Anybody with any info on this?

i'm tweeting with @ATTCustomerCare right now. you can process you're trade online or in store (https://tradein-program.att.com/home.php5?c=en-us) once your purchase has been completed. so it will not in essence go towards the purchase of the 6 or 6 Plus.

I've been watching those Tweets as well. They are saying you can purchase online and even via AAPL and then later do the trade-n. You have to do the trade-in through ATT.

I would just prefer to do it all at once... I'm afraid after I purchase it someone will say it has to be done at the same time and now you can't trade it in.

they tweeted back saying it can be "used to pay your bill (other than Next installment payoffs) or use it for purchases at the att store"

----------

so it's not necessarily a "free" iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. just credit towards the store or your bill (minus those on the Next plan).

Yes, seems like all is good for using it to pay my bill.

But I'm not sure about the ordering of the phone online tonight and then doing the trade-in later online or at the store. I've never done a trade-in after the fact before... always done at the same time I was ordering a new phone.

I doubt it will re-direct you to offer you the trade in. the way they're saying it makes it seem like it will be a separate transaction from your purchase.

FYI... latest Tweet says you have to order from AT&T in order to get the trade-in promotion. Earlier someone had tweeted that you could order from Apple and still get it (which I thought was unusual).

All of this commotion - smh

I'll just make my appointment at the store for the morning and bring my phones and see what happens.

Yeah, even the Twitter feed seems to be all over the map.

Sucks that if I pre-order through AT&T it will go to my sister who's like an hour+ away from me. (mobile share acct in her husband's name, he gets discount through employer)

I called my local att store and they told me the trade in is pretty much not tied together to the preorder so basically I can preorder like usual tonight on apple.com and trade in my i5 for the 200 gift card when my i6 arrives.

I wish they would post the official press release for this. If that's the case, it makes things a lot easier. I called my local store and was told that there was no special promo going on for the launch and that my iPhone 4 would be worth "up to $50" whenever I wanted to trade it in

I would be careful of ordering through Apple and expecting AT&T to give you a trade-in. That is not how the normal training programs worked in the past.

Can anyone else confirm this? I would really prefer to order from the Apple store

The ATT trade in program has been in place for some time, and is no way associated with your device upgrade, as it is handled differently. Meaning you cannot pre-order and trade in at the same time, as they would be completely separate transactions.

Also, please keep in mind that you cannot use the trade in value if you're enrolled in the NEXT plan.

This is what I would imagine. After all, your hooked into ATT, so what's the difference?

Of course this favorable rationale is somewhat promted by the insane desire to have one ...like already :)

Not what the local AT&T store told me. I was told I can pre-order in the store, when I pickup I can apply the trade-in value to the transaction. BUT the full price of the pre-order is placed on your CC.

Be very careful with what you hear from a sales rep at an AT&T store. I worked at AT&T and it is very competitive for commission. The sales rep most likely wants you to go in just to have the commission. Having worked at AT&T during the iPhone 3s launch as an iPhone Product Pro (non-commission) I saw how many sales reps got mad at me for telling people to wait for future iPhone shipments instead of being forced into a phone they didn't want just because the sales rep wanted the commission right then and there. "Why did you send money away? We could have gotten them a blackberry!" Me: "Because they wanted an iPhone not a crap storm."

It was the main reason I left AT&T to worked for Apple. Apple is non-commission based and if the workers don't know they will go and honestly find you an answer instead of giving you some BS to get the commission. You are going to get better information if you call corporate hotlines than commission based sales reps at a local AT&T store.
