+1 ^^^ I heard a couple people trying to get help at the Apple Store with those same issues. The results weren't promising...
Well thankfully the person whom I bought it from left his AT&T sim card in the phone when I bought it (which meant I could activate it again when I restored it, so I just gave them that number and his name (which they needed to check whether the phone was still under contract apparently) and the rest was fine. Still waiting on the unlock code though.
You need to talk to tech support, not international care.
Hey guys, just a little confused on the rules that need to be met. My brother jumped over to AT&T from T-Mobile a month after the iPhone 4 launched and when the iPhone 4S came out he got it. So is the iPhone 4 available for unlock since he got the new iPhone 4S or are they requiring the phone to be off the two year original contract even though it's not being used anymore?
I used the tech support chat online. I put my 4 old iphone imei numbers in the initial about chat section. I also stated I can supply proof of purchase if needed. The rep took care of it right there in the chat. Im still waiting for the email been about 1 1/2 hours...
The online chat girl gave me case #'s for all 4 of my old iPhones: 2 iPhone 4 & 2 iPhone 3G. She told me I would get unlock email info by the 18th. Does anyone know if they are going to still ask me for proof of purchase or did I get lucky & make it through that part?
you will get the email later if they did not ask you upfront.
I got a rep last night that detailed the process and told me that I would receive an email in 3 to 5 days regarding my iPhone 2G.
I was also told what I had suspected. Once the iPhone is restored in iTunes, the rep confirmed that the phone itself would be locked (and rendered useless, at the home screen) until an active SIM card was used to reactivate the iPhone with service.
So it doesn't look like I'll be fulfilling this one. I likely won't be using it for phone service, if at all. I like the fact that it's not hacked or jailbroken. I intend to keep it that way.
You have it right; if you weren't eligible they would have told you. The unlock isn't an actual code you punch in; it's a back-end change that Apple has to make. They tell you your case will be resolved by the 17th but in reality you'll probably get an e-mail within 2 days with instructions to restore and then re-sync to make the unlock take effect.
Actually, went back to the AT&T Store and spoke with a customer service rep after Apple Store said they can only sell the unlocked iPhone and that AT&T could unlock it. AT&T was fine up to the point that they determined that the iPhone 4 replacement wasn't showing an activation date until April 8, 2012, which didn't meet their out of contract requirement. So, I took it over to a T-Mobile Store and they sold me the GEVEY PRO TURBO SIM CARD for $25 and in 5 minutes I was out the door with my unlocked iPhone 4...![]()
What is this gevey sim card I keep hearing about? Sorry about the ignorance, do I need to jailbreak my iphone4 for this? Does it only work with t-mobile?
What about an iPhone4 which is bought from Apple Store(paid full price-$599-no contract)?
Is it eligible for unlock? Because all iPhone4 devices sold as AT&T locked on Apple Stores. I bought it on Aug.2010 when i was in Boston. Now, im in Turkey and i hope it will be unlock as soon as possible.

do you have a sim card that you can put in? that will try and activate the phone.I got my two iPhone 4 unlocked and got email about the backup restore process however, after backup and restore I'm not getting the screen which tells me it is unlocked. ANy pointers?
This unlock doesn't require a jailbreak. I've attached the website for Gevey Pro Turbo SIM Card and it takes about 5 minutes to complete. AT&T CSR recommended the Turbo SIM Card as I was leaving an AT&T corporate store! There's a couple other services that are $40 a month for unlimited data, phone and text messages; pretty much cutting everything in half v. AT&T/Verizon and Sprint...
