I got my email this morning at about 4:00 am CT that my unlock request was not completed as I have not fullfilled my contract. I am under no contract and bought a phone on CraigsList then swapped it out at an Apple Store 2 days later for one that worked properly.

I'm gonna call at&t tonight after work and get it all done over the phone. No more waiting games! This is total BS

Do y'all suggest I go into a AT&T store to get this fixed or should I jsut call and speak with tech support to get it fixed?

I did check my online account and it does confirm that I am out of contract.

I got my two iPhone 4 unlocked and got email about the backup restore process however, after backup and restore I'm not getting the screen which tells me it is unlocked. ANy pointers?

I got on with Chat again and the rep telling me to use other carrier SIM card and check if it is unlocked and I do not have T-mo micro SIM.

Hi,

Can you chat for my phone please, I don't have ATT account.

I was told by AT&T that one account can get only 5 iPhones unlocked in 12 months period and I've 4 active on my a/c and 2 non-active. So sorry but I cannot get yours.

I jsut called my local AT&T store and they said not possible to unlock an iPhone under any circumstances. Apprently they didn't get the memo. LOL

I tried to explain that as of Sunday they can unlock them but he told me I was mistaken. What a douche bag

So I just called att and they said my iphone is not in their system, so i'm not eligible. It's not an att iphone they said. As far as I know there was no other carrier selling the 2g iPhone, so it has to be from att. I also confirmed that it was first activated with att.
So I'll probably just call again tomorrow

Okay well like many i called multiple times and finally got the answer I wanted I gave email, IMEI, and contact number and i received a 5-7 business day and a conformation number! Now as many people are wondering does that mean it will be unlocked? Why do some receive 24-48 hours, others 5-7 days? Does this mean anything different? If you can answer any of these questions please reply because there are atleast 30,000 people wondering!

You'll most likely know in 2-3 days. Why do some people get it al out immediately or within a day or so? That's because they have an account with AT&T and it's easy for AT&T to do their verification. Those who do not have (or never had) an account with AT&T are generally asked for the proof of purchase and are given 5-7 days as the resolution time.

I don't know. I have an account with at&t but when I went on chat the other day, I was not even asked if I did, just the IMEI and email address. But then again before logging in (pre-screening) I did indicate that I have an account with them. I still have to wait until the 17th.

This is why I asked at first I believed they were giving there customers with accounts quick reply times. But that is not true some non-customers get 48-72 hours and some customers still get the 16th/17th. It doesnt add up!

My guess is that it is either they still don't have a standard procedure in this process (not hard to imagine since they only started this last Sunday, and by the different results/answers we are getting, probably not very far from the truth), or from the moment you login/enter your account info, they already know if you are eligible or not (really, how hard is it to know if one is still on contract or not?), and would rather tell you to wait 5-7 days (to be declined) so you don't go calling them over and over again? At least in the next 7 days.

Your probably exactly right about them not having a standard procedure considering some employees do not even know about the unlock but as for the fact of being declined I believe that they would tell you up front like most of the ones who did not qualify.

So, I called tech support and they confirmed my iPhone is out of contract and can be unlocked. They wouldn't unlock it while on the phone and said they would send it back as an expidited request noting that my account was not under contract.

As for my wifes line (signed contract with HTC Inspire in 03/11 - lost phone and replaced it with iPhone 4 in 07/11 from CraigList) they won't unlock it cause the line is under contact even though the phone is not.

How can I get hers unlocked since it wasn't bought though at&t?

Once mine is unlocked can we swap phones? She will have my unlocked iPhone 4 on her line - then I'll have her locked iPhone 4 on my line - then request an unlock on my line again - then swap phones again afterwards when both are unlnocked?

I got a confirmation e-mail saying my iPhone 3GS was unlocked, but restored in itunes and got an invalid sim error. After getting my phone working again, itunes still does not recognize that the device should be unlocked. I called Apple and got a senior advisor who called an AT&T senior advisor on 3 way. I got a lot of helpful information while waiting. AT&T will allow anyone to pay the termination fee to have their iphone unlocked, reguardless of if you have / had or never had a contract with AT&T. This means even if you have an iPhone 4S, they will allow you to pay the termination fee to have it unlocked.

This process is still so new that it has AT&T and Apple pointing fingers at eachother when it comes to the actual unlock. I will update with more information if these senior advisors from both Apple and AT&T get back with me reguarding the unlock. I'm also overseas trying to unlock and maybe that's where the disconnect is.

Update #1: AT&T is saying that all users trying to unlock their devices need to have an ACTIVE AT&T sim card... How the hell they are going to make this work... I don't know, but still awaiting answers. Especially since most of us aren't active AT&T customers. Stupid...

1a: AT&T now told me that you do not need their sim card to unlock your phone. You just have to put in the one from your new carrier (not at&t) and restore. Some people say you just need to sync and the unlocked message shows up.

Update #2: I am living proof that you do not need to be an AT&T customer to have your iphone IMEI request sent. Your best bet is to get ahold of someone outside of tech support. Call them, it's harder for someone to tell you NO on the phone rather than through internet chat.

Update #3: I asked AT&T if they have an official published document reguarding iphone unlocking... guess what? They do not. HA! But they did tell me that official letters are in company circulation. Here is the best info I could get from the Apple senior advisor. http://gizmodo.com/unlock/

Update #4: On the phone again with an Apple senior advisor and he understands that people want to see the "Congratulations Your iPhone Has Been Unlocked" Screen. He is routing the issue up to Engineering Dept. to see if iTunes needs to be updated since this whole AT&T unlock process is so new. He did say that he could see that my iPhone was unlocked in Apple's system though. It's a start...

I still have a contract until June of this year but was never told that I was ineligible. But then again like I mentioned previously, I was not even asked about my contract. I guess some representatives are just not proactive enough to actually help their customers and just submit everything to analysis (which is most likely a different team).

See my post bro... You may have to keep calling for a dumb AT&T rep. or like I said in my post... you always have the option to pay the termination fee

Same as me bro... see my post. There has to be a bug in the system somewhere. My guess is there is a serious disconnect between Apple and AT&T. I know for a fact that AT&T sends the unlock request to Apple because they control iTunes.

Took the survey after my ONE HOUR & FORTY-FIVE minute wait and multiple hangups and gave them all 1's on a scale of 1-10 and 10 being BEST, except that when I was hung up on, the CSR was extremely courteous so I gave her a single 10. Anyway, a manager calls up about 10 minutes ago and apologizes and I give her my IMEI number and she told me to plug into iTunes with backup & restore and it was immediately UNLOCKED!!!

I've attached the "Congratulations Your iPhone Is UNLOCKED Screen"

So why are some people being told they have to wait until the 17th... it's like a magical date or something. iTunes let you unlock, that's good. Seems people are having problems on the 3GS in itunes

I'm not really sure, but I was adamant about being put on hold for over 1 hour & 45 minutes and hung-up on 2-3X and never called back and finally went to an AT&T Corporate Store and was told the same thing by the store manager and called AT&T Technical Services only to be told that I was not eligible. I filled out two telephone surveys with all "1's" except for one 10; explaining that my account was current, I have 5 iPhones, and my bill is about $280 per month, and I now have 4 iPhone 4S and 1 iPhone 4, and a iPhone 4 that is a paperweight to me. The tech services manager to a total of 15 minutes and we were saying goodbye in no-time...
