I think you misunderstood.
I think so too, because what I got out of your question was if you switched to this new plan and used an upgrade (renewed your contract), would AT&T's retention department let you keep it at $15/month.

I don't know why all the hate for Next, if the 2 year price comes out to about the same, why wouldn't you pick 2 phones over 1 over two years?
Have you ever thought about the $27 x 2 x 12 = $648 that you are paying to AT&T every year? It is like a car lease. At the end of the year, you have to turn in your phone when you upgrade because you don't own it. You are basically giving AT&T a free phone every year. Whereas if you did two year contracts, you own two phones at the end of your term which you can basically sell for $200-300 each, which is more than for the next $199x2=$398 you'd need for your new phones. My final summary:
Current Plan:
4 GB: $70 - 23% discount = $54
2 Lines @ $40 = $80
Total = $134 + it cost me $200 x 2 lines to purchase the phones
New Plan:
10 GB: $100 - 23% discount = $77
2 Lines = $15 x 2 = $30
Next for 2 Lines = $27 x 2 = $54
Total = $161
Difference = $27 total, or $13.50 per line
$13.50 per line x 12 months = $162
So I would go from 4 GB -> 10 GB
Per Line, at $162 a year, I get a new phone EVERY YEAR
Prior to all these fancy plans coming out, is there anyone that wouldn't happily take their iPhone 5S into an apple store after 1 year and exchange it + $162 cash for a brand new iPhone 6 ?????? $162 for a new phone. That's slick
I see both sides of it. Though it's odd that you commit to two years with etf and in return pay 25 more a month per line
AT&T has only sweetened deals with family plans over the years. They've never helped out the individual plan users. This alone is why I'm jumping ship for t-mobile or straight talk.
So every two years you will pay $650*3=$1950 to get new phones out of contract, whereas previously you'd be paying $199*3=$597 for such a 3 phone upgrade? I am just not seeing the appeal here, or I am missing something.I have 6 lines, 3 smartphones and 3 basic phones.
(And as far as upgrades go, we do not upgrade as often since we usually last 2 years with devices... so no skin off our backs.)
Current (4GB) Family Value(10GB) Family Value Next 10GB
$170($2040 a year) $150($1800 a year) $150($1800 a year)
$398($1098-700 upgrade) $798($1498 - 700 upgrade) $900($37.5 x 12 x2)
$2438 total $2598 total $2700 total
How do FANs count toward these new plans? I have 22% off my voice plan now. But voice isn't itemized anymore.
Also, I'm on a family plan now. Just upgraded 2/3 to iPhone 5S. Is this going to hurt me in any way if I want to switch to this plan?
I don't think it's rape. Did you read my post?
$15 non-subsidized - > $40 subsidized = $25
$200 iphone / 24 = $8.33
$25 + $8.33 = $33.33
It's pretty much the exact same thing. Am I wrong?
Is there a catch to this plan, because it sure does sound to good to be true. It doesn't sound like AT&T.![]()
Yes there is... No subsidized phones))(
Contract or not, you've always been paying $650 for your phone whether it is an iPhone or Android. Your twenty-four month contract has $20 built into your monthly charge to pay back the $450 "discount" they provide you at the time you sign the contract. This is why it is a 24-month contract, they need you locked, obligated, and anchored to them for that time to repay the "discount". That's why the ETF is there if you decide to cancel service or switch carrier.
I did not. I'll have to clarify when the time comes for upgrading the wife's phone. Thanks bud
At 25 times 24 months that's 600 plus you pay 200 for the phone on contract that's $800 not including tax. Almost seems cheaper to buy outright
Incorrect. You can still get it on contract it would just put that line to $40 a month
Okay thank you for also getting the same number I did; so for the base iPhones (16GB), with the contract we are paying an EXTRA $150, right?! Because if I'm correct, the phones by themselves are $650.
Now, I'm seeing a lot of hate for Next, but my question is why? Don't you only pay the device's price with this? Aka, you pay $650, and not $800? I'm having trouble understanding why people would want to do the contract...
AT&T won't care. They don't make money off the phones. Next or no next. If you go to this new plan you realize the full outright price is 650 not 200, right? Next is just no interest financing on the full price of the device. AT&T does not make interest off of next they just avoid having to subsidize the price of the phone.
AT&T does not want you to take the 200 option that's why they have next and thats why they have these plans. These plans just make next a much better option than a 2 year when the cost is the same on a monthly basis and you avoid the 200 upfront cost plus the upgrade fee.
Only problem with what I said was that you can STILL choose to do the 2-year upgrade, it's just silly to do it. Next/outright are much more affordable.
Next and outright, however, are the same exact price! You might actually prefer Next, depending on how much you sell your phone for and all that.
