AT&T Launches Two New Mobile Share Data Plan Options

One of these days some company is going to make a cell plan that doesn't require Microsoft Excel to calculate the price. And individuals will rejoice.

By 2015, there will be more carrier cellphone plans than.... Chinese people.

I am guessing 300MB is more for individuals with smartphones. $70 for 300MB and unlimited text and voice is $10 more expensive than AT&T's cheapest Individual plan for smartphone (450 minutes without text).

As for family, cheapest 2-line (smartphones) is now $120 for Mobile Share (with 300MB) vs. $100 for Family plan (550 minutes without text).

It's only when you add unlimited text, MobileShare starts to look like a better value ($10 cheaper vs. Individual or Family plan).
T-Mobile is the cheapest 2 lines $80 unlimited talk text data.

Every time they make a new announcement, it's yet another attempt at confusing customers into believing they're getting a bargain when they're really paying more and getting less.

I'm so happy I ditched AT&T for SimpleMobile. I'm paying less than half of what I used to pay and I'm getting more. Their handling of grandfathered "unlimited" plans has been despicable ("throttling" to unusable levels after 2GB). I will never, ever, EVER be an AT&T customer again.

AT&T throttles unlimited after 3GB for non-LTE plans, and 5GB for LTE plans.

I'm over a full gig right now with 11 days left on my cycle and they haven't throttled me yet.

Like every other AT&T "shared data" plan without a user configurable per-phone quota, this is useless to me.

AT&T today announced the launch of two new Mobile Share plan options, including a 300MB and a 2GB data plan, both of which include unlimited talk and text.

First introduced last summer, AT&T's Mobile Share service plans are designed to allow users to share monthly data allotments across multiple devices. The plans come with both a monthly data cost and a per-device charge that ranges from $10 to $45 based on the data plan selected and the type of device.

Previously, AT&T's Mobile Share plans started at 1GB of shared data and then jumped to 4GB, so the new options give customers who use less data additional pricing choices. The 300MB option is available for $20 per month with a $50 charge per smartphone bringing the total plan cost to $70 per month, while the 2GB option costs $50 with a $45 charge per smartphone, for a total cost per month of $95.

As AT&T rolls out new Mobile Share plans, its early upgrade pricing has also been gaining some attention. A report from Gotta Be Mobile points out that a number of AT&T customers have begun receiving early device upgrade options, which appear to be part of the 24-month upgrade policy that AT&T introduced last month. AT&T has offered similar early upgrade discounts in the past. Several AT&T iPhone customers have logged in and found themselves eligible for a discount on an upgrade, and according to AT&T, users that have completed at least six months of their contracts should be eligible for a partial discount off of the full retail price of a new device.

It is, however, unclear how AT&T is doling out its early upgrades as it appears to be limited to an upgrade on a phone brand that is already in use (an iPhone user can only early upgrade to another iPhone, for example) and other users have reported not seeing an early upgrade discount at all.

AT&T's new Mobile Share plans will be available beginning on July 26.

It's actually pretty interesting. The 2GB, 4GB, and 6GB plans all cost the exact same when you have four devices. $230 no matter which you choose. At this point anyone with four devices on a plan should have no less than 6gb data.

Where is AutoUnion39 to tell us that these plans are revolutionary and that T-Mobile has mediocre coverage everywhere? :D:rolleyes:

I am trying to remember when it was made mandatory that you subscribe to AT&T service. Enough complaining about AT&T. if you don't like their service change providers.

Can't believe how much they rip you guys off for data in the USA, i'm on the Three network here in the UK and I get UNLIMITED data, 2000 minutes (other networks), 5000 texts, 5000 same network minutes, plus FREE tethering All for just £15 a month ($23).

Confusing

THIS.

And with 5 lines it's actually cheaper to have 4, 6, or 10GB than it is to have 2 GB.

I refuse to get one of these Mobile Share Plans until they lower the prices. These new plans just prove how bad their bending over the consumers

I'm on EE in the UK and pay £46 per month for Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Texts & 10GB of Data. The plan also includes 3GB of inclusive Wi-Fi via BT Openzone and access to a music streaming service called Deezer.

Also, every Wednesday you get 2 for 1 Cinema Tickets.

Usually though, this plan only has 3GB of Data but EE have boosted it for new/upgrading customers until 30 September 2013.

EE is the first 4G LTE network in the UK. Love it!

What's most interesting about this is, if you have any type of FAN discount, the discount only comes off the "Data" section of your bill.. if you have say, a 15% discount it is actually ~$2.60 cheaper to get the 6GB plan than it is to get the 4GB plan...

$100 per 10gb?

Whats the point of paying $100 more for each 10gb, when the overage cost is $10/Gb anyway? shouldnt there be a volume discount?

$500 for 50gb +$30 per phone? this is way too much. I'll keep my business phones with virgin until at&t gets they head of their a**.

Wth? $70 for 300 MB?

Just get a data-only plan and VOIP, it's $30 for 3 GB.

I'm thinking of doing this. Is it feasible? Is there a VOIP app that's entirely free or do you have to pay for every minute like Skype? What are people doing now-a-days?

How in the world people buy these shared data plans is beyond me. Only a small number of people really benefit from these high prices.

Instead of worrying about price fixing on ebooks the government should look into price fixing with the carriers...

Still ridiculously overpriced. Nearly $100 a month for voice/text/2GB data. This is why I still have a "feature" phone. My pre-paid voice plan costs me about $6 per month. I have a Wi-Fi hotspot that costs $30 per month. Since I don't text (aside from iMessage), I'm effectively getting the same plan for 1/3 the cost. The only downside is that I have to carry around multiple devices (phone, iPod Touch, Wi-Fi hotspot). But since that saves me about $720 per year, I'm willing to deal with it. :)

I've been trying to figure out a way work around ridiculous phone plans and I think you've figured it out! Props to you! Was gone try it with an iPad mini.

I got lucky though and have a retentions plan with 200 minutes and 6 GB for $57 per month so I'm relatively happy now. Not all people know how to do this though, and end up getting screwed.

blah blah blah att

Yeah and i have UNLIMITED data, no caps or throttling w/ Tmobile since April 10 (Iphone 5 launch) and use anywhere from 5-12GB's/month without thinking about it for $70/month! LTE now nonetheless, love it

I can't wait to switch to T-Mobile in November.

These type of comments i never get....that means you have about 4 months for an early termination fee to face if you leave now, what does that cost? $60 or something? What will you save to leave now w/ TMO? Prob alot more, so just jump now i say.Just sayin :)

November would be when the 2nd line on my phone is up for an upgrade, so that's when I'm switching. Why would I wait to get an early termination fee if I could just do it now? I'm not giving anymore money to AT&T if I can help it.

Mines been up since March, that's when I'll be free and clear to do what I want without any extra fees from AT&T.
