I'm new here but I have been checking in from time to time to see when and if AT&T is finally going to get around and add LTE to the Des Moines, IA market. I will add this. According to some stuff I have seen on twitter there are a couple of towers along I-80 in Iowa that have converted over to LTE. One is near Newton/Colfax which is about 20 miles east of Des Moines and the other is around Marengo which is about 30 miles west of Iowa City. Not sure what their end goal is by adding those towers as LTE but hopefully it means LTE will be in some of the bigger Iowa markets soon.

Des Moines will be up in a few weeks. The person who tracks the LTE updates on a diff't forum is from Des Moines, so he always brings it up :D

update

Today we have one single LTE launch, and it's Wichita Falls, Texas.

AT&T 4G LTE Available in Wichita Falls

AT&T also launched in Laurel, Mississippi earlier in the week:
AT&T 4G LTE Available in Laurel

AT&T has updated their infographic to reflect these two launches. AT&T LTE is now available in 328 markets.

AT&T just updated the coverage maps in the Northeast.

HUGE area of New Hampshire has LTE live now. All of Eastern NH has LTE now.

3C8W8.png

Almost all of Eastern MA has LTE now too

3C8Xh.png

Expansion in the Portland, Maine market was done too.

3C8YZ.png

Almost all of that area between Portsmouth and Biddeford, Maine has LTE live now. Maps don't show it yet. Should see another big expansion announcement soon

AT&T (and VZW) have significantly more LTE up than Tmobile has 3G around here.

Just wanted to say thanks for the updates autounion39. I check this thread daily in hopes of seeing markets light up near me, maybe one of these days!

update

I just drove east of Des Moines on I-80 yesterday and about 10 miles away from the eastern limits of the metro area you hit LTE. It stayed that way until I got off the interstate 20 miles later. Can't wait until they turn Des Moines on.

You're welcome. Glad to be a help!

Which market are you near?

Today, I traveled Interstate 80 between Altoona, Iowa and Iowa City, Iowa and had LTE nearly the entire time. The signal transitioned back to HSPA+ when I arrived at I-80/380 interchange near Iowa City

AT&T announced 7 new markets today, July 24. They had also announced single market launches on July 8 and July 10, but due to their small size, I did not include them in a full update until today. Both New London County, CT and Merced, CA were previously on our Top 20 without LTE list, so two new cities will join that list today. In addition, four of today's launches came from the pre-announced list for "this summer", which leaves us with only eight pre-announced markets yet to launch.

#___: Laurel, MS (18,548) (July 8, 2013)
#270: Wichita Falls, TX (150,829) (July 10, 2013)
#123: Vallejo-Vacaville, CA (420,757) (July 24, 2013)
#170: New London County, CT (274,170) (July 24, 2013)
#176: Merced, CA (262,305) (July 24, 2013) [Pre-announced]
#___: Sussex County, DE (200,330) (July 24, 2013)

#___: Greenville, AL (7,228) (July 24, 2013) [Pre-announced]

#___: Hancock County, GA (9,429)

AT&T 4G LTE is now available in 336 markets.

MORE UPDATES! :)

AT&T announced 11 new markets today, July 31. None of today's launches were in our Top 20 Without LTE list, nor were any of these launches from the pre-announced list to be completed "this summer". A very odd set of launches today.

#195: Charleston, WV (225,954) (July 31, 2013)
#361: Rome, GA (96,177) (July 31, 2013)

This weeks' expansions

Also, here are AT&T's recent LTE expansion announcements:

I spoke to a rep at the AT&T store in West Des Moines yesterday and he told me that corporate has said the Des Moines area will have LTE by the end of the year for sure but they are aiming to have it on within the next two months.

Frustrating that Des Moines still has no LTE. It was the same with 3G, we were one of the last Metro areas in the country to get At&t 3G coverage.

I feel ya, I'm still waiting on AT&T to switch on Youngstown, last major area in Ohio. I'm trying out GoPhone with my iPhone 5, so far it's working out good compared to Tmo.

I had LTE on Tmo several miles from my house this past weekend when I was shopping, but when I left the area, I was back on their 4G, which is more like a beefy Edge. I couldn't find anything about LTE on Tmo in my area so I don't know if it was just being tested or what.

Step it up AT&T :p Sooner you get the LTE, the sooner you get a new customer!

More markets up today!

Also, three of the launches from the pre-announced list to be completed "this summer". Overall, a great set of launches today, knocking off some larger markets without LTE, and also AT&T is getting very close to completing their promised summer launches.

Youngstown will be up by the end of the month.

The top 3 largest markets without official AT&T LTE are:

- Poughkeepsie, NY (already up and testing)
- Youngstown, Ohio (announced, will be done by end of summer)
- Des Moines (Iowa is rumored to have a "rolling" statewide launch soon)

Patience my friend. It is coming. You will be rewarded with their fantastic LTE network soon enough. :)

----------

Some interesting facts

- AT&T's LTE rollout will be complete by mid-2014.
- AT&T has launched more new markets in 2013 than Sprint's total LTE launch in the last year (~110ish markets)
- AT&T has 3x the LTE markets up and running to its nearest competitors (TMo and Sprint)
- AT&T and VZW have significantly more LTE than TMobile has HSPA up in the US

Look out for AJBrewer's posts. He's in Des Moines and has been trying to get an eye on things. In one of his older posts, he was saying that the AT&T store reps have been notified that LTE is coming soon. Apparently, it will be similar to their 3G launch, where most of the state got lit up within a short period of time.

This basically correlates with what I posted earlier. An AT&T rep in Jordan Creek Mall told me to look for LTE in the Des Moines metro within a month or two.

Hopefully Cedar Rapids and Iowa City follow shortly afterwards. Considering Verizon has been here for almost 2 years now, it's past time for AT&T to make an appearance.

I think the reason Des Moines is so late on the list is because they only have PCS spectrum there; it looks like they have to transfer a 700 mhz. license from Frontier if they plan to use 700 (the only other 700 mhz. license holder there is King Street which is USCC) which has probably taken some time... otherwise it'll be LTE at 1900--which their phones CAN use, but they haven't launched LTE in any other band than 700 with a small bit of AWS... so it's either because the license transfer is taking a bit, or they are prepping PCS LTE for Des Moines.

I'm in Cedar Rapids and would love LTE. It does exist in Iowa though in the strangest place. I pulled over at a rest stop somewhere between Grinnell and Newton on I80 a month ago and my iPhone 5 said LTE. Confirmed when the same thing happened in the same area a week later on my return trip.

I just shook my head. LTE in the middle of a cornfield, but not in the metro areas in Iowa? lol

Yep, a buddy of mine saw it outside of Charles City a couple weeks back. Seems like they're doing some low stress tests around the state.

I have heard I-80 from Colfax in the west to just outside of Iowa City in the east is all LTE.

I can confirm that to be true. I just went to Indy last week and had it through that stretch and on the way back. Makes no sense why it is there and not in the major cities other than the fact it's a major highway maybe?!?!

If I remember correctly, I had to the east outside of Iowa City. Not sure how soon I picked it up though.
