30 cities tested… with a few in the same state… we have 50 States… well that’s some kind of methodology! Over half of the states are not covered by the tests yet they show us a US map with the “results”. These tests don’t mean anything unless you live in one of these 30 cities and we know that in big cities the carriers are pretty close except for one. Basically these tests only show one thing: under no circumstance - including best price - should you choose Sprint as your carrier!
 
I live in FL where hurricane Michael came through, and ATT was the only signal here that was working for at least 2+ weeks. Granted it was a natural disaster of epic proportions, but neighbors were switching as soon as they could to ATT from Verizon. At the time, we were without power/water for more than 20 days, and my iPhone on ATT was my only internet link to the world. I've been a customer with ATT way back to Bell South Mobility (pre-Cingular), and have been happy with my service then and now.
 
I've considered moving from AT&T to TMO for years. Here in NJ, and most of the places I travel to, there is not really much of a difference in coverage or speed. I tested this a few years ago over the period of one year with a dual sim 1+ 3 phone. Even internationally, which I maybe do 1-2 times per year. AT&T is always reasonable and reliable. I might save a few bucks on TMO domestically if I switched, but I'd have to buy new devices for the best savings and it seems their international plan isn't quite as good. This has always kept me with AT&T.

T-Mobile’s international roaming is actually substantially better. You get 2G data and texting in 210 countries and territories for completely free. You’re obviously not watching videos with 2G but it’s fine for using maps or basic websites. If you want high speed data you have three options: 512MB, good for 24 hours, for $5; 5GB, good for 10 days, for $35; or 15GB, good for 30 days, for $50.

AT&T includes nothing for free, and you have to pay $10 per day to use whatever plan you have at home. Or you can buy a block of data good for 30 days at the absolutely outrageous prices of 1GB for $60 or 3GB for $120.

You also don’t need to buy a new device. You don’t get a discount on monthly service costs by purchasing a device. Not sure what gave you that idea. You can just keep your existing phone and you’ll pay the same amount as someone that buys a new phone.
 
A year ago I would have agreed with you. However, here in NYC over the last year, T-Mobile has really taken a dive. Lots of instances of strong signal but data is unusable. T-Mobile has been working to improve it by adding more and more small cells block by block, but they haven’t been moving quick enough. I’m sticking it out, because I have a crazy good deal and WiFi is absolutely everywhere in this city, in hopes that 600MHz, 5G, and their continued rollout of smaller cell sites make the situation better.
Yeah, but what I was saying is that coverage is more important than speed at this point. So if T-Mobile doesn't work for you, then something else is better because all the speeds are close enough, at least on average. Now if T-Mobile is super slow there also, then that's another thing. But I feel like speed isn't the primary factor any more.

I also have a sweet deal on T-Mobile. Three unlimited iPhone data lines, 2GB iPad data, for $72/mo if we stay under 2GB. My wife usually stays under 2GB unless we're traveling, and I pay for my grandparent's line on ours and they are always under 2GB unless they're on a road trip. But our bill is more often around $82/mo because I seem to have trouble keeping it under 2GB nowadays.

My plan is similar. Three lines of unlimited with One Plus with HD video and double speed international free data for $64 as long as I stay under 2GB, which I do probably 10 out of 12 months. My wife’s line is a free line which isn’t Kickback eligible and the third line is on an old phone in my office that never gets used so it always gets Kickback.

I hate it when a company announces its the "fastest" while in reality its just better with 1Mbps. Its lying, its deceiving. There are other things to consider like coverage, price, caps, customer service, reliability, downtime etc...
 
In the 5 boros of NYC ....
I find T-mobile the fastest.
Both T-Mobile and Verizon are equally reliable with data.
Verizon is more reliable with voice.
AT&T still has too many dead zones.

I have no recent experience with Sprint. But I know it completely sucks. :p

I’ve found T-Mobile unusable in lots of parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn over the past year. I have an XS Max so I can do dual SIM and I recently signed up for the free year a Sprint, because why not, and use it for data only in the physical SIM slot and Sprint has actually been great here in the city.

I don't have that experience. I live in Queens and I'm in Manhattan and Bklyn almost every other day. I do get occasional dropped calls in Manhattan with T-mobile, which is why I stated Verizon is the best with voice. But T-mobile data has been rock solid and fast for me. The only place I have a huge issue with T-mobile is Roosevelt Island.
 
I get 2 lines on t-mobile for $20 less that one line on At&T plus every time I traveled outside of the US At&T scorched me on roaming I pay $0.00 for roaming on t-mobile. I use to get dropped calls all the time on AT&T and nice switching to t-mobile I get zero dropped calls. I have zero speed issue on t-mobile too
 
I’ve had the same experience here. In my area most people I know keep LTE turned off because it is far slower than 4G. Like literally almost nothing will even load with LTE on.

Probably they mean 4G=3G, something T-Mobile pioneered back in the day (“if we call our 3G network 4G, we can say we deployed “4G” without needing to deploy LTE”).
 
Seeing a lot of experiences here, but nobody seemed to bother to read the report. They tested urban areas, suburban areas, and rural areas, and showed exactly where they tested. Sascha Sagan is also very open and forward about his testing results. AT&T is making massive strides on their network- both Ookla (speedtest.net) and PCMag agree with this. Rootmetrics results should be out soon as well. If you haven't used a network in over a year, chances are you have no idea how they perform anymore... T-Mobile is a great example of this. But wait, AT&T spends literally 2 times as much on their network as T-Mobile. They must really have good marketing to have so many people believe that AT&t isn't improving at a fast rate. The FirstNet initiative is why this is happening... adding tons of airwaves to every site in the country. It's beginning to show.
 
Same as my results. When I lived in the SouthEast (North Carolina), I found T-Mobile to be the best. I now live in the NorthEast (New York) and find AT&T to be the best.

AT&T is the fastest mobile network in the United States according to PCMag's latest annual mobile network comparison, which was released this morning.

For the test, PCMag employees drove through 30 cities and 25 states across the U.S. and ran more than 60,000 mobile speed tests to determine the speediest mobile network. The tests were conducted using Samsung Galaxy S10 devices on networks from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.

This year, AT&T edged out Verizon, the winner for the past five years, thanks to AT&T's focus on improving its LTE network in preparation for 5G technology. While all four networks improved overall on both speed and reliability compared to last year, AT&T improved a bit more than the others.

AT&T won or tied for first place in 15 of the 30 cities tested, and it tied or came out on top in all rural regions. AT&T was on top overall in the northwest, southwest, north central, and northeast, while Verizon won in the south central region and T-Mobile came out ahead in the southeast.

AT&T has been making improvements to its 4G network and has been labeling those 4G enhancements as "5GE," but really it's the same 4G LTE technology offered by other wireless companies as well. Still, these efforts to improve the 4G network ahead of 5G have led to overall speed boosts for AT&T customers.

I just laugh and laugh when people talk about Sprint/TMobile as a viable option. It's literally a no-show in my area
 
I have Verizon in the Miami - Ft. Lauderdale area and have no complaints whatsoever. While I can't compare the speed as I've never had another carrier while living here, I can vouch for the consistency of the service. I find that frequently when others have poor reception, like at my work for example, I have no issues. During Hurricane Irma my wife and I never lost service, which was absolutely invaluable.
Verizon always sucked at FLL airport for me - TMo works there but has deadspots all over the city.
 
When AT&T is fast, it's fast. But when you're in a bad reception or congested area, no matter if it's in the middle of a big city, then you'll be cursing your iPhone like it was the 3G. I've called them countless times to see when they plan new towers in the areas I have trouble and they never have an answer for me.
I’m in a suburb of a medium sized metro area. I use AT&Ts “Mark the Spot” app whenever I encounter issues, which is on average once a week. When I submit a report, 9 times out of 10, the app tells me they are aware of a problem in that area. And usually, 5-7 days later I get a notification that “Congratulations! Service has been restored to normal.” Gee, thanks.
 
Once I'm an hour outside of D.C., I can barely make a phone call with either Verizon or AT&T (and forget even trying with Sprint). I couldn't care less about faster speeds. What I want is full coverage, no matter where I travel. I've had AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, and I'd put AT&T and Verizon on par with one another for coverage; just depends on the area. Sprint is abysmal, no matter the location. Oh, how I hope that companies will start adding more towers, rather than trying to market faster speeds.

At least they "fix" the ones you report. I'm also in a mid-size metro area (approx. 1 million pop.). Whenever I report issues, they just send the generic "we appreciate your feedback. We're always working to improve...blah blah blah."

They never get fixed. I still have a submission from November 2016 that says "we are currently experiencing a technical issue in this area and are working hard to resolve it." That's a long time to restoration! :confused:
