Done! Got retentions, mentioned the Sprint deal, upgraded very easily and offered 50% off accessories (which I didn't need). Doesn't kick in until next billing cycle. So unless they lied to me (like Comcast tends to do) and I don't actually get upgraded then I'll be happy. :)

Would I pay the same monthly bill for the 20 gig plan like I do with the 10 gig plan I currently have? If I decided to jump on this deal.

How do you get retentions? Just ask the rep when they answer?

Dial 611 and listen to the menu. It will say something like "For all other options, please press 0". Press 0. Then it will go through another series of menu options, and one of them is to cancel your service. Hit that option.

Wow thanks OP, I was on the phone for literally 7 minutes only 3 of which I was talking to a rep. She was happy to switch me to 20GB with no hassles at all.

I pressed 0 then 0 so when some answers just ask for retention?

Say you're thinking of canceling and going to another carrier; that puts you to Retentions.

No reason to be anything but pleasant and polite. Guy I talked to late this afternoon was very nice and helpful. Those guys probably catch a lot of ***** from upset customers; being nice sometimes has an even stronger effect.

BTW: I'd strongly encourage anyone considering this to get it done ASAP. I suspect as word gets around some higher-up at AT&T may pull the plug and they'll make it much harder or outright refuse to do so. Maybe not, but still best to not wait.

Thanks for posting. The first guy said no but then I asked for retentions. Done is a few minutes. Thanks again.

i was able to also get my data doubled and the rep gave me a $50 credit.

She was an awesome rep! That has had to have been the most pleasant call I've had with att in forever.

yes i logged into my account and it was updated to the 20gb plan. I have something like 19.2 gb left out of 20.0 gb

Hmm OK. For me it still says 10GB in the title ("Mobile Share Value Plan 10GB"), but that my data is x/20GB. But I'm wondering if maybe she only gave me a 1 month change?

I am a long time AT&T customer but just got an iPhone 6+ a month ago with the Next Program. If I tell them I am looking to cancel, will they just tell me that I then need to pay off the entire phone instead of offering me the 20 GB plan?

I didn't even mention canceling service. I simply asked nicely to go from 10GB to 20 GB and that was it. Done - no hassles at all.

Don't worry about the fact that you purchased a phone a month ago. I just placed an order today for an iPhone 6 through Apple. I didn't threaten to cancel the service. I just stated that my 10GGB plan wasn't enough data for me and I heard that Sprint has a double data promotion, and was wondering if AT&T would offer me the same promotion. You must speak to the retentions department, though.

Same here never mentioned any intention to cancel. I just said I am on the 10GB plan and wanted to see if I could double my data.
