Bummer. Sorry dudes. Anyone have the 15 gb plan and is able to upgrade??

I have an upgrade avalable on our account. I am able to go all the way through checkout while keeping the 15GB. I am not going to go through with it since it's a christmas present and don't want to return the previous phone just yet... will make the purchase about a week before Xmas.

I just changed over tonight. I've been very happy with my AT&T service, and this further solidifies my willingness to stay with them. Funny because I was tempted to check out T-Mobile quite a few times recently, but AT&T is doing a good job of keeping me from straying.

Most months I use about 6 gigs on two lines, but this update means I can go as far as doubling my usage without a care given.

Is this through apple or att?

Heads up!! It appears as of my posting, the 10GB plan no longer exists on AT&T's site. All data plans have been shifted to gain additional data at current plan prices.

Example: There's a 15GB Plan now priced at $100/month. This isn't the current Promo, I'm assuming this is permanent going forward. If you scan through all other tiers it applies to them all.

So they made it seem like that 30GB for $130 plan was a limited time promo and got all those unlimited data users to jump ship? Brilliant move. They were gonna change the data tiers anyway (to keep up with competition and the times) but fooled everyone into thinking it was a limited promotion to get people on the fence to switch.

Yep. The 15@100 and 30@130 are still there for me as well.

I'm glad, honestly. It gives me a chance to test drive 15 and if I want more to bump to 30.

Anywhere.

I think it still is limited. But their competitors are offering great things through the holidays. They may have had a mind to stop mid November but that's a terrible move. Plenty of folks buying devices and with Verizon offering $150 to port a number now is not the time for them to be stubborn with their plans.

I am a little bit nervous about my order placed on my 20gb plan through Apple.com. The last order I placed while on the 10gb plan showed the plan on my order confirmation and the one I placed after on the 20gb, doesn't show my plan on the order confirmation. I hope it doesn't screw up my plan.

so wait......how are you getting the 15 gig for $100? My att screen shows the 15 gig option for $130 and the 30 gig for $160. I am still locked in to my 2 year deal until the end of the month, and thats when we plan in getting some 6's.

I do get a 15% fan discount, but i dont think thats what you are talking baout with the 15/$100 or the 30/$130 right?

****** ** nevermind, i see the break down. att is showing me the $100 for 15 gigs, plus $15 per line ( 2 lines on the account ) for $130. Same goes for the 30 gig, its shows $130 plus $15 x 2 = $160

Yeah, the "end price" they show you is with the phones themselves. It shows $115 for me but I say $100 because that's the data itself.

So i need some help here. It appears att is screwing me.....

Right now the wife and I have 2 iphone 5's, our contract epxires next week and we were going to get the new 6's. We were also going to add a line for my mother and get her whatever iphone's are free with contract.

Right now i have unlimted data and 2 gb for the wife. The total per month is about $160.

Att is telling me that if i change my current plant to the 15 gig and have 3 new contracts ( two iphone 6's and another iphone for my mother, probably a 5c ) that the plane will be almost $195 a month !!!!!

They are going to charge us $40 a month access for each line ( excpet mine, which will be $15 per month ). So the break down would be $95 in access charges and the $100 for the 15 gigs.

I'm being told that if we do the "next" program, we can keep the access charges at $15 and $9.99 per line, even for the 3rd line, but we have to pay the new phones off in installments. So what happens?? We basicaly get screwed for upgrading to the 6's?

Am i retarded here and not understanding it?

Last i knew, if I dropped my unlimmited, went with a 10 or 15gb plan, added a line and then upgraded the phones when the contracts expire, we were being told we would save like $30 a month.......now i'm being told it will rise !!!!!!!

The pic below is for the 15 gig at $100 a month.

If you switch to any of the carriers new plans, you have to pay for the new phones one way or the other.

You can either use Next, which leaves the smartphones access at $15.00/month, and then additionally pay monthly for the new phones until they're paid off. The only money you'll pay up-front for the phone is the sales tax (on the full price of the phone .. i.e. $649). Once you've paid for the phones, the monthly payment for the phones falls off your bill. The picture you posted above shows what your bill looks like when you're not paying for phones.

Or you can do a 2-year commitment. This will cause the the smartphone access to jump from $15.00/month up to $40.00/month for the next two years. You'll pay the usual $199/$299/whatever up front, plus the sales tax on that amount, plus a $40 upgrade fee.

I was under the impression that one could upgrade their phones by signing a new 2 year contract and get the 16gb phones for $199 like i have always done, but buy switching to one of these capped data plans and dropping my unlimited, we could save some money.

I was actually told this by an att rep about 3 months ago when we inquired about adding a line. They didnt mention a dman thing about the third line adding any cost to my monthly plan and i asked them to verify that over and over again. After that, They went right into the whole " change you plan to share 10 gigs of data for $130 a month" and yould save $30 a month".

Now if we want to add a line and change the plan, i'm gonna pay an extra $40 a month and our "access" fees go to $40 as well?????

I always thought that the point of signing the 2 year deal was to have att subsidize the cost of the phone as a "thank you for sticking with us for 2 years".......then by dropping my unlimited and picking a sharing plan that we could save a few dollars in the process, mainly bc i am giving up my unlimited data. After that, just add a line ( which i ws told would not cost me anything extra ). Even if the third line cost me $10 a month or something that would have been fine, but again, i was told there was no added fees for a third line. Now it all apears to be out the window???

From reading posts here on MacRumors where people on old grandfathered plans post up what they're paying, it seems like the new Mobile Share plans are NOT cheaper.

If you're on a 10GB Mobile Share plan and use 2-year commitments to upgrade your and your wife's phones, and then add another line to your plan and upgrade that line on a 2-year commitment, your monthly bill should look like this:

$100 -- 10GB data, voice, text bucket
$40 - your phone
$40 - wife's phone
$40 - third line
------------------
$220/month

I never had a family plan under AT&T before the Mobile Share ones, so I don't know how much it would cost you to upgrade and add a line on the old plan you're on. But it's probably cheaper on the old plan then with the new Mobile Share plans.

The old plans are way cheaper for some - it depends on your exact situation. When I was comparing plans back in January, the old plans were better if you only had 2 or 3 lines. Once you got up to 4 lines, it was pretty much a wash.

I like the new plan for these reasons:

1) Shared data. My family has wildly varying data usage patterns, so it's nice to share data. If I travel a lot during a given month, I will use way more data that month than normal. Now with the 15 GB shared plan, there is PLENTY of head room. We've never even gone over 10 GB (but we've come close).
2) Tethering/wifi hotspot included. We use it for our wifi iPads.
3) Unlimited texting. We used to not have a texting plan because it cost extra, so we paid for every text message. Our solution was to use facebook messenger or google voice for most of our text messages. But that was a PITA.
4) Upgrade at your own pace. On the old plan, it was a huge waste of money if/when you wanted to wait for an upgrade. i.e. you paid for the subsidy every month whether you used it or not.

We switched back in January, and I'm still glad we did it.

It makes no sense to stick with the 2-year commitment thing under the family share plans. Either stick with the old plan, or move over to NEXT and get a family share plan. Don't mix the 2 - you just get the worst of both worlds.

If you're on a 10GB Mobile Share plan and use 2-year commitments to upgrade your and your wife's phones, and then add another line to your plan and upgrade that line on a 2-year commitment, your monthly bill should look like this:

It's actually 15gb for $100 now. If you go the Mobile Value Share plan, it breaks down like this.

$100 --15gb data, unlimited talk and text
$15 - your phone
$15 - wife's phone
$15 - mom's phone
-------------------------
$145

But then you add on the NEXT pyts for each (depending on what phone you get. Let's just say $30 a mo. as an example.

$15, plus $30 for each line
------------------------------
$235 before fees and taxes

If you stay on your plan and sign a 2yr agreement and subsidize, you will pay $40 per line forever, even after two yrs is up.

If you move to MVP, your lines will stay at $15 even after you have paid them off. So, you need to do the math and go for the plan that works best for you.

Most people on the Unlimited data plans, buy their phones outright, so there is no change to their plans and they keep their unlimited data. If you can afford to do this, then that is the best plan.

so what would happen if right now i logged in and I went and changed to the 15 gb for $100 plus the $15 and $15 ( $130 total for two phones ) and add a line?........and then when my contract is up, go and sign a new 2 year agreement to get the iphone6's for $199?

Would that get me the cheaper plan and the subsidized iphone6's ?

is it me or does it seem like you are penalized for agreeing to stay with att for 2 years??

Thanks to all of those who are helping to clarify this for me btw !!!!!

Pretty sure you can get a discount on the line once the contract is up (might not be automatic but fairly easy to get it as the phone is basically owned equipment at that point and gets the same type of discount as Next or full-price purchased phones).

You would lose your unlimited data plan and you would pay $40 per month even if you are on the MVP and be under contract for 2 yrs again. I would not advise doing that

You are paying for the phone one way or another.

If you buy the phone outright you pay the full price right away and then pay a discounted line access monthly fee.

If you get the phone on Next then you are paying the phone off in monthly installments and get the discounted monthly line access fee.

If you get the phone on a contract, then you pay something up front for it (depending on what the deal is) and you just have a higher monthly access fee to basically cover the subsidy that you are given on that contract pricing (so basically it's like that cheaper monthly line access fee of $15 and then the $25 goes to paying off the phone that you got for way cheaper than its full price on the contract). That was always there before with contracts as everyone simply paid that $40 monthly line access fee (or something equivalent to that).

Depending on what plan you are on, what lines you have, and what phones you are going for you need to decide for yourself what would work for you best (staying on contracts, going with Next, or perhaps paying full price right away). It can be different for different people based on all those items.

----------

I believe right when you switch, even if you are under contract, you get the discounted non-contract line access fee. If you do enter into a new contract at some point after that to get a discounted phone then the monthly fee would be higher as it normally is for contract phones.

but if i switch right now its only $15 per line...... no?

So you are saying if i switch and then sign the 2 year for the subsidize iphone6's, they will bump it to $40?

https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=516121&d=1416944173

Yes, that's what I'm saying. So, if you want to switch now and get the MVP discounted lines, don't subsidize your phones. Buy them outright or go on the Next program and pay it off asap to lower your bill. You can pay off the Next program anytime you want to.

but if i switch right now its only $15 per line...... no?
Yes. If you happen to owe anything on the phones you have on your current contract, they essentially "write it off". Since they wrote it off, you're not paying for your current phones anymore, so you simply pay the $15/month access fee for each of your lines.

So you are saying if i switch and then sign the 2 year for the subsidize iphone6's, they will bump it to $40?
Right. If you upgrade by signing 2-year commitment, then they raise the access fee to $40. If you upgrade by using Next, they leave the access fee at $15 and add a monthly device payment, until the device is paid off.
