Lol. I was so hoping they've fixed this issue already. I tried to do the same thing you did but went ahead and clicked Continue. The next page asks you to select a data plan. Therefore, they haven't resolved the issue yet. They better resolve this before the new iPhones get released. They have time. :D
Bummer. Sorry dudes. Anyone have the 15 gb plan and is able to upgrade??

i was debating on going to tmobile for the plan, but when i realized it would cost me alot of money upfront to switch (pay etf, buy iphones out of pocket etc) i held back and stayed with ATT. granted they will pay etf, it will take 2 months and it's gonna be thru a visa prepaid. Not really a fan of prepaid cards but whatever, i prefer check as a payment method vs visa card myself. it sucks that i missed the 20gb special but now i took advantage of the 15gb as soon as it went live last tuesday.

for those of you still debating.. jump on this now, from what i heard this will be a special promo that will be gone in a few weeks.... it's gonna be really a limited time offer.

Just be warned, as I found out on my new bill, you are getting get slammed with Pro-rated charges.. I went from the 15gb - 30gb plan, and 2 weeks later downgraded to the 10gb - 15gb plan, and got slammed with about $100 in charges..

any suggestions on how I can get these adjusted at all?

prorate really depends on when you used the service and when you cut off the other.

I am on the 20GB plan (promotion) and I was given a $50 credit at the time the plan was changed to offset prorated charges. AT&T is very good with giving credits for prorated charges. At one point, I had to be given $300 in credits due to prorated charges, and while it was a long phone call, they took care of it for me. Call them and explain; ask for a supervisor manager, if necessary.

Best thing to do is to make sure you either backdate (or futuredate) changes instead of prorating them (unless you really need that and figured out that won't cost you).

In my experience, prorated charges appear when plan changes are backdated.

When things are backdated it's not really prorated in the sense of getting partial usage and charges--you basically get credit back for the full price of the feature/plan you had and then get charged the full price for the new one, with the full data allotment. Otherwise if you change during the cycle and actual prorating happens they divide up the data you had to see what you should have been allotted up to the date when you are changing and charge you based on that and then only give you partial data from the new plan that should cover you for the remainder of the billing cycle. Much more complicated and more room for overages than simply to backdate and essentially have the new plan as of the beginning of the billing cycle that you are currently in.

Understandable...

Speaking for myself though I really don't care which I get. If I get a prepaid cards I simply use it against against a cellphone or utility bill (paying online). Simple and easy, effectively turns the card into cash. There's rarely a time that I don't have a bill waiting to be paid.

before I finalized the change, it gave me a pop-up asking if I wanted this change done immediately or at the start of my next billing cycle. I choose to start my next billing cycle.

Thanks for explaining that.

That's actually not how AT&T's pro-ratio works. The billed dollar amounts are based on how many days are left in the billing cycle and not how much data you consume.

Assuming billing cycle starts 11/1 for simplicity's sake, here's an example:

11/01-11/30 10GB $100 (initial plan)
11/03-11/30 10GB -$93 (pro-rated credit even if you've used up the entire 10GB)
11/03-11/30 30GB $121 (pro-rated charge)
11/18-11/30 30GB -$56 (pro-rated credit even if you've used up the entire 30GB)
11/18-11/30 40GB $65 (pro-rated charge)

TOTAL: $137

Assuming you also use up all 40GB for the remainder of your billing cycle, that means you got 80GB of data (10GB 11/1-11/2 + 30GB 11/3-11/17 + 40GB 11/18-11/30) for $137 ($100 - $93 + $121 - $56 + $65).

If you simply keep on gaining data like that then how do people run into overages? You are basically saying they prorate the price but not the data itself, which is somewhat odd that they would account for one part of it and not the other.

Be that as it may, that's the way AT&T handles billing. That's just something I noticed when switching between plans. Whenever you switch plans and make the switch effective immediately instead of back or future dating, you get a brand new data allocation for the remainder of the billing cycle. Doesn't matter if you've completely used up your old plan's data usage.

I'm sure AT&T has safeguards against abuse. I believe you're limited in the number of times you're allowed to change plans in a billing cycle. Besides, I reckon AT&T figures most folks would just upgrade their data plans and stay there instead of keeping on changing their plans several times a month.

Yes, you're right. When my plan was switched to the 20GB data for the 10GB price it happened in the middle of my billing cycle and I suddenly had another 20GB of data, but I didn't have any prorated charges.

You absolutely can get out of overages this way. I imagine if you keep doing it often your account would eventually be flagged for review. Or maybe not. I don't know. Would be easy to have the system do automatic checks though. There is no reasonable answer to why you changed your plan back and forth twice a month for the last year. Lol.

So you get the full amount of data of the new plan allocated for however remains in your billing cycle? And then for whatever time has passed you get the full amount of data from the previous plan for that period?

All I know is that I had upgraded to the 30gb ($30 extra per mo) plan from the 10gb plan. When I was switched over to the 20gb plan 2 weeks later, the rep gave me a $15 credit for the prorated amount and that is exactly what I was charged on my next bill. I don't understand the $100 prorated amount ??

I had to get a 6 ordered for Christmas, so I tried to order on Apple's site with the Next program. I was expecting it to make me choose a plan, but it didn't. It went right through. I am hoping that my 20gb plan doesn't get hosed because of this, but the last time I tried to order, it wanted me to choose a plan. Cross you fingers for me ;)

I just don't get why the hell ATT is having such a hard time with adding phones to the 10gb-doubled plan.

It is on my bill as 20gb family share, and that should be the end of it. Every billable plan had to have been added to their system at some point or another, and if they can't figure out how to make the 20gb plan exist without problems while upgrading/adding a line, then they are actually more incompetent than I previously thought.

I just noticed this today myself. Previously the Apple site was forcing me to pick a new plan when trying to order a phone. As of this morning, first time I had checked in a while, it goes right through without asking about the plan at all. Looks like the purchase process has been revamped maybe? Before going to checkout it's going to an accessories\applecare screen etc. then going right to check out.

Crossing fingers but it looks like this issue may finally be resolved.

Yes, it appears that the Apple website has been fixed for those of us who have the 10GB doubled to 20GB plan. It does not ask that you pick a plan anymore. Although it took a month for them to fix it, at least we can order now from Apple. I didn't bother to wait and upgraded via AT&T. My phone arrives on 11/26 and I hope I don't have any problem activating it.

Figures they'd finally fix it after a few of us got impatient and either ordered through ATT and/or switched to the 15GB promo in hopes that'd work. I did both. Sigh.

Least my iPhone 6 gets here tomorrow. ATT wasn't to terribly bad getting it out. Hope it's a good one.

Well u messed up yor acct real good....but i wud call retentions and explain why u switched...cuz u didnt think u wudnt ever be able to upgrade a phone on that plan. ..and needed for xmas present. Agent gave u wrong info......etc....lay it on heavy...they have up to 60 days to put a xnld grandfathered plan you had back on yor acct....keep tryin different agen ts.........

Heads up!! It appears as of my posting, the 10GB plan no longer exists on AT&T's site. All data plans have been shifted to gain additional data at current plan prices.

Example: There's a 15GB Plan now priced at $100/month. This isn't the current Promo, I'm assuming this is permanent going forward. If you scan through all other tiers it applies to them all.
