I got the yearly upgrade last year and every year before that. Are you guys saying I can't get it no longer??????????????????

my other line is able for upgrade and i dont want the iphone5 on that line so im gonna buy it on that line and put it on my other line

do i really need to go into the store to change that over though?

Someone...somewhere...posted about a "crossover upgrade" which stated that if you had an iPad (which has its own number) you could upgrade using THAT number. This was sometime last week--I haven't had the time to check it out (plus I was/am still on the fence in regards to whether I would be picking up the 5)--can someone give it a shot and report back? This was AT&T, by the way. (I believe.)
Actually--I screen captured it for later use! Hold on...

Any tips for doing this, or threads where people have successfully done it?

Not really. The few people who've gotten the approval of a manager to change it must wait until it's officially released then have at&t order the phone. So no chance of preordering and getting it on launch day for them like the rest of us.

If I were you, I'd add another line for $9.99 per month. That way, you'd be upgrade eligible every year (device swapping every other year).

Yup. AT&T, iPad number for 20+ months and supposedly the $250 upgrade fee can be waived. Again, not too sure on the validity of this claim, but it's worth a shot! Especially for those of us that might be eligible!!
(like me.)
(if I wasn't on the fence.)

I figured I would ask this here, but a GS3 a month ago and returned it on August 23rd for a iPhone 4S 32GB. I'm still within my 30 day window of return, and do you think they would let me return it and pre-order the new 5?

Oh well. This is what I was wondering too. Seems like there is no way around this, so I will stick with my 4S for another year. I won't be missing out on too many new features.

I'm curious to see if AT&T will let me upgrade early. My phone isn't eligible until may of 13, however my second line is eligible on November 9th 2012, I'm hoping that maybe they will let me upgrade 2 months early and get the 5 on the release date. Has anyone had any luck with doing this?

Maybe this will ease up on all the preorders Friday morning for me who has lived with my iphone4 since launch day. So I am happy they did this :)

This is why I skipped the 4S.

Though honestly even though AT&T announced that Denver will get LTE by Year End 2012, I am still considering getting a Verizon model.

The downside is that a AT&T iPhone 5 will run my $399 for a 64GB.

The Verizon will cost the same, + $165 Early Termination Fee for my wife's line still under contract + $199 for a 16GB iPhone 5 for her on Verizon, though I could get her a $99 4S.

That's an additional $264-364 to switch carriers for LTE sooner, though there are other considerations.

I just talked to ATT today. I have a line that is eligible for upgrade in November. They said they would move my upgrade up to today for any device except an Apple device. I have FAN, 8 years with ATT and 4 current active lines. Just under $200/mth spend.

Yeah i'm on a FAN acct spend 170ish with 3 active lines(2 iphones)... was told the same thing.. that if i wanted to get a samsung they could change my acct today,, but it has to do with some agreement with apple..

O.k., so question... I'm on a family plan that we've been on since 2007 (first iPhone). We pay roughly $550 a month on our bill. About 5/6 iPhones are on this plan. My Dad and I both have HTC One X's and are looking to go back to iPhones. It says we have 4 upgrades available November 15. The lines that have upgrades are all iPhones. How can we get iPhone 5's for the subsidized price. Do I gotta hit up AT&T? Sweet talk 'em to move me up a bit?

I pay over $250 monthly with 4 lines on a family plan. I called and they wouldn't budge so I said "ok so can you calculate how much it would cost to cancel that line?" and she said $220 and then I go "ok can you let me talk to someone about cancelling the line?" and happily obliged with absolutely no objections and transferred me to someone else. I hung up while she transferred me because I wimped out lol.

Totally bummed as I've always gotten the yearly upgrade as well.

Could someone tell me if this is possible? My family has 3 phones on our account. Two iPhones and a regular Pantech phone. One of the iPhones and the Pantech phone are eligible for upgrades. Mine, the main phone, is not eligible until next May. Could I just order the phone using one of the 2 secondary lines and just activate the phone on my main account while keeping the other 2 the same?

I talked to AT&T as well, they told me no on moving my upgrade as well. It was only 60 days and they said no go on any apple product.

Yep. That's what I got as well. I have 9 years with AT&T and pay over $200 a month on 2 lines, but they said they can't move the dates up on Apple devices. I wonder why this is? They said any other phone they would move it up for.

Ok. Here comes some crazy talk.

So, is it better to:

A. Use an upgrade on that line (Originally scheduled for Nov. '12) on a Galaxy S3, sell it for say $400 and put that towards a new iphone without upgrade.

OR

B. Add a line switch the iphone 5 to my main line and just pay 9.99 + tax for a while.

Both of these in addition to either selling my current Galaxy S3 or iphone 4S. I think I can get more for selling the S3 and giving my wife my 4S, because the S3 wasnt just replaced with a newer model.
