Didn't work for me.

I was polite and stated that I have went over the 2GB limit for 3 consecutive months and would like to switch back to the unlimited plan. He told me it wasn't possible and that I fall into the 2% category of users that exceed the limit blah blah blah.

Told him I wanted to cancel my service and I still had no success. The smug CSR even told me the dates the iPhone would be available on Verizon.

And if you want to switch to VZW, they made it a little easier to pay the ETF. They'll take your ATT iphone as a trade and one way or another credit you:

iPhone 2G - 16GB: $60
iPhone 3G - 16GB: $105
iPhone 3Gs 32GB: $160
iPhone 4- 16GB: $280
iPhone 4 - 32GB: $360

Yay!!!

quick question on this unlimited data. I had the iPhone 3GS when the iPhone 4 came out I was grandfather in. I gave my mom my iPhone 3GS but she couldn't get the unlimited date. Now that AT&T is offering it again is my mom qualify for the unlimited date?

They call it an Incentive

Alltel wanted to give me me a puppy to get me to switch.

Almost needless to say, I hope ATT and Verizon can do better.

If I would bring in my 8GB iPhone 3G, will the Verizon staff laugh their collective *sses off or will I get a credit?

Unlimited plan

I called, just to see if they would switch my plan back to unlimited. I just changed it to 200mb a few months ago. They said no. I mentioned the rumors posted here. Just wanted to see if it was an option. I' m switching to Verizon, when the iPhone 5 is released anyway.

They will probably laugh at you.

30 day return policy

AT&T has a 30 day "return" policy. If you move to a different carrier, or change your plan on AT&T, you have 30 days to try out the new carrier or wireless plan. If you switch back, according to their policy you may retain your old policy back just the way it was. I switched to Sprint for 30 days, I didn't like them so I switched my number back to AT&T and they gave me my old plan with unlimited data back...

Just worked for me too...

...called in after I heard all this hubbub and spoke with a nice lady. I explained that I had a 3G with unlimited data, lost the phone, bought a replacement for the 2 months until the Iphone 4 came out, kept an unlimited data plan on it because of the "grandfather" issue, bought my IPhone 4 and was then told I had the wrong unlimited data plan and was placed on a 2 GIG plan.

She told me she would speak to a manager about getting an "override" to get it back on my account. She took about 5 minutes and came back and started out by saying "unfortunately", I started crying and then she said "Unfortunately we couldn't make it retro active. You'll have to pay a pro-rated amount for this month, then next month you'll be charged the $30 plus the pro-rated for this month for the unlimited data plan". I rejoiced and asked her to marry me. The wedding is in December

(Note: all of the above is true except the wedding part. And the crying)

Not one of you getting a sweet deal on unlimited data has offered a thank you to those of us subsidizing your data plan by having to pay a high cost on 10/15GB when we only need a little more than the 200MB option.

Just thank us once please. That's all we ask.

Didn't work for me. I got someone who seemed fairly aware of what was going on.. we had a good talk and I explained how I could switch to Verizon for unlimited and they would basically buy my old iPhone4 to eat the ATT contract cancelation fee but the guy said he couldn't do it, he almost sounded like he knew it made sense to re-instate my unlimited (media max) plan from my iPhone 3g but he couldn't. Sounded like he was reading from a scripted thing about no longer offering unlimited, his verbiage never strayed. Oh well, worth a shot.

fine print

Yes but VZW's plan is unlimited data + 2gb tethering.

As had been previously revealed, the only data plan currently available for the Verizon iPhone is a $29.99 unlimited plan with an add-on option offering 2 GB of mobile hotspot and tethering data per month for an additional $20.

funny enough, after my conversation with them last night, at some point this morning my data plan was deleted.... like my phone said i wasn't subscribed to a data plan! so i called them and told them what had happened, and the lady put me on an unlimited plan!!!

now why did it get deleted.. i dont know!

I just tried with 2 different reps. NO DEAL!! I was going to call back later and threaten to go to Verizon but it does not look like it worked for others. :(

You would think that if they were smart, ATT would give us the option to go back to the unlimited plan.

Does the trick of putting an iPhone 2G on your line allow you to get unlimited Internet to show back up?

30 day policy

I just tired and they said no!! I had unlimited since 2007. I got rid of it a few months ago, but I'd like to go back and they said, "No Way!". Has anyone had any luck in switching back? If so, please share.

It is AT&T's policy (it's even written on their website) that if you change your plan or even move to a different cell phone company, and you want to come back, you have 30 days to do so you and you get all of your old stuff back.

I just got off the phone with a gentleman who was very courteous and he said that (after a while on hold) he can't do anything "at this time." he stressed "at this time," several times! He also said that he can't say whether AT&T will or won't make a change in February...

it may be that there may be some official changes in the works at AT&T!

That's odd!! I had almost the same conversation, verbatim! The lady I spoke with said there is nothing she can do at this time and maybe in the future.

It's interesting that everyone's stories are the same - either with a yes or no, and that they are receiving the same "scripts" from the reps...

Well some lady at ATT opened a ticket to see if I can switch back to my unlimited. She said it'll take two weeks for them to go over it... That sounded weird. She said it could happen sooner but that was the date she got. At this point I really forgot if the pricing was different. Does anybody recall? I was switched last year when the I4 came out.

$30 per month for unlimited

K they switched me already. Didn't take 10 days. No warning, just that I lost voicemail and data untill I rebooted my Iphone4. It seems slower, but it could just be the time of day. I'm dearly getting 1Mb/sec down and up.
