I've been using the original iPhone forever, with the same data plan (unlimited) and a cheaper bill overall than most using an iPhone 4 or 3G, I believe....

Even so, AT&T and Verizon can both go straight to hell. They are awful companies, and anyone working for them is either being used by unethical turds or is one.

AT&T's sheepish admission that unlimited data usage is no longer something they can put off is testament to the fact that they are not a company fit to lead the industry. They are interested in unearned money.

I called today and tried to get the unlimited data. They were not able to do it. They claimed it is no longer in their system. The only way they can upgrade you is if you had a choice for unlimited in the past.

Nope - even though I had unlimited

I called in - the rep didn't know anything about the offer but went away for a few minutes, then came back and said she couldn't switch me back.

I had unlimited, switched to 2GB + tethering last July. Not sure if I missed the window today, not all of them know about this yet, or if I switched too long ago for them to switch me back to unlimited.

Hey guys,

I tried as well but was told they cannot change it in the system because the option is not available anymore... (I'm sure).

On the other hand, I saw posts from a guy that says he works for AT&T and would be able to do the switch for a fee. I guess I wouldn't mind trying it out, cause it wouldn't be that much and worst case scenario I would be lose that little money but he would require my passcode for the account, together with account number and my full name.
I'm of course a little skeptical about it, but what do you guys think? Could he have access to all my SSN# and so on if I give him the passcode to my account? I want unlimited, but not sure if I want it at the cost of giving out all my info...

Your feeback would be greatly appreciated!

Didn't work for me.

I was polite and stated that I have went over the 2GB limit for 3 consecutive months and would like to switch back to the unlimited plan. He told me it wasn't possible and that I fall into the 2% category of users that exceed the limit blah blah blah.

Told him I wanted to cancel my service and I still had no success. The smug CSR even told me the dates the iPhone would be available on Verizon.

Of course they don't want your business - you use way more data than average. They base their rates on people not using the service. The only people who will get the offer for unlimited are the people who are least likely to exceed the cap.

I just got off the phone with a gentleman who was very courteous and he said that (after a while on hold) he can't do anything "at this time." he stressed "at this time," several times! He also said that he can't say whether AT&T will or won't make a change in February...

it may be that there may be some official changes in the works at AT&T!

Im surprised people are having this much difficulty. As I mentioned in another post, I payed an etf to get out of Att back in July of 2010 after having every iPhone from the original through the 3GS. After being on Verizon for 6 months and having a Droid X I cracked and went back to Att and purchased an iPhone 4. I am still within the 30 days to return it and I obviously mentioned that and told them that I used to have the unlimited plan on my previous 3 iPhones with the same phone number since I ported it back and forth. Not sure if they switched it since I could switch to Verizon with no etf or if it was because my phone number used to have the unlimited, either way they didnt give me any kind of hassle. I power cycled my phone as instructed, then went on Att and checked and it had been switched over to the unlimited plan.

Thank you natebookpro. I read your post and found my situation to be the exact same as yours.

I called them, very politely I might add, and asked what could they do. Of course I got told no at first so I brought up being in my 30 day return period, previous customer who left in July, had unlimited data etc. and they said no again. Before getting off the call I asked are you sure and they said let them check. After a couple of levels I got a manager on the line who reviewed my account and made it happen.

Got my unlimited data back on both lines and I got retro credit for my SMS overage. It's a great night!

I called in myself and I was able to get my unlimited data back I'm very happy about this :)

May I ask how?

Honestly I was calling them to fix my microcell which has been acting up lately. While I was on hold I was reading this thread and when the rep asked if she can help me with anything else I just asked her if I could get it back, because I had it before on my 3GS but they switched it to the 2GB plan when I pre-ordered the iP4. She said let me look into it and 3 mins later she said it was added 5 mins after that I checked my account and it was.

I think, then, I may have a shot at getting it back. Since I switched to AT&T in 2007, I've been on the Unlimited Data plan up until last April, when my iPhone 3G died due to water damage. I used a GoPhone until June (for the iPhone 4). A couple of weeks before the iPhone 4 released, I learned that, because I switched to a GoPhone, I could not be grandfathered in.

Great to hear it worked for you, though.

The more I think about it, the more angry I am about these unlimited plans.

2% of the customers spend all day on their phones watching video and they get a sweet deal. In the mean time the rest of us are stuck with 200 mb or a significant price jump for more data than we need with no option for just a little bit more data for a slight increase in cost.

This makes a few people happy and sounds nice: "unlimited data plans". How about "reasonable data plans"?

The majority of us should be less concerned about unlimited data plans and more concerned about getting more intermediate data options.

It looks like AT&T is trying to keep some customers happy so they don't go to Big Red. I was wondering when they were going to do so.

screw the unlimited data, give me the ability to use my iPhone as a wi-fi hotspot... that's where it's REALLY at!!

No, you want that AND unlimited data.
Otherwise you'll just be paying out the a$$ in overage charges once you fly through your data on your connected devices.

That's just typical for the US market. Instead of one-upping each other on better offers and unlimited plans they'd better work on coverage, this is where you really get your customers from.

I called today and got unlimited added to my account. I was all ready to leave and cancel my contract and pay the ETF and I mentioned the reason I was going to cancel was to go to verizon and get the iphone 4 with unlimited data so they transferred me to someone else and after telling me how bad verizon is I said all I want is unlimited data and then she said hold on and went to check and came back and said that she pulled some strings and made it happen because I'm a good customer. So maybe if your ready to leave and want to try this?

Never ever At&t again

Will I ever trust again what AT&T is saying?

I went to the AT&T store, asking for PrePay data use, had them have installed a PrePay SIM into my iPhone by their own hands an have them charging me a data plan on it, all right within the same transaction.
Only one day later for me to find out: no network.
Message from AT&T then: data is not allowed on iPhone with PrePay. Walking to the store again and calling service hotline. And guess what: no refund.

They took the money for delivering zero service.
Kind of thing not to happen again.

Ain't competition grand!!

Thank Ronald Reagan for this one. The breakup of Ma Bell in 1984 made way for massive innovation within the country's telecommunications backbone making way for the Internet we know today.

Unfortunately, I think the old Ma Bell bureaucracy came along with the AT&T name. Verizon offering an unlimited plan totally caught AT&T by surprise. The poor customer service workers and managers are caught in the middle 'til the CRM is updated.

Verizon>>AT&T

All I have to say is that my dad asks me to use my verizon phone because the lack of service from his AT&T phone.
