Canceled preorder this am with att once I found out they had some at the Apple Store then purchased it via the apple app to pick up in store. My original dates via att were 10/31-11/11

I just got home a little bit ago. Pulled up to fedex at my door. So I parked the car and ran. Took the package and said thank you and proceeded inside and opened it. I riped the box to pieces lol. Then I relized that it wasn't my iPhone but my anniversary gift from my wife. Oh ******* then proceeded to try and put everything back in the fedex package to acted like I didn't even open it. Doesn't look so goodshe is gonna kill me.

Hey gold/128/6+ people: I did it. Cancelled my AT&T pre-order, was eligible for upgrade immediately (I checked while still on the phone), and grabbed this exact phone from a local Apple store. I was in and out in about an hour (I was shocked to see how many scalpers were still in line, cycling through multiple times).
I was able to get it as a Next phone, no problem. Setting everything up at home now.
Anyway, ultimately it was quick and easy and they had the phone at several local Apple stores. Check yours!

Gold is the only thing in stock around where I live.

Just an idea ... if you find stock of a plus at an Apple store, you should be able to purchase it for the off-contract (retail) price, use it while you wait, and return it within 14 days. Not sure if there is anything to stop this, or whether there are any restocking fees.

After cancelling my pre-order I went over the to the Apple store and was able pick up a 6+ 128 Silver on AT&T Next instantly.
I'm all set and currently restoring to my new 6+.
Good luck to those who are sticking this out for their pre-orders. Hopefully your new devices will show up soon.
As for AT&T, I will never pre-order from them ever again. What a nightmare!

good thing you two did not buy each other iphones or you could be waiting until your next anniversary for them. So what is the getaway?
This is a lame thing to do, because you'll have essentially taken 2 iPhones out of the available pool.
If you don't want to wait, cancel your pre-order and go pick one up locally. Don't buy and return just to satisfy an urgent need to have one only to give it back later. The one you return will be set aside as a warranty replacement, not available for someone who is looking for one to buy.

Agree ... not super cool. But, warranty replacements need to pull from somewhere. If there are not any refurbed units, won't they just pull from new stock. So, it may be a wash.

ONLINE says "In Progress: 10/2 to 10/13 Our warehouse is still processing this item for shipment."
(877) 782-8870 days "back order" as of this post. Original conf. Email said said 14 to 21 business days.
Why would there continue to be retail shipments when preorders aren't filled?

Haven't fallen off the 10/2 date yet so there is still hope.
For the people that have a 10/2 to 10/13 ship date, what does your online status day? Mine says, "In Progress". I am gonna hashtag twitter #iPhoneOct2 and post any movement if you care to follow and contribute. I think this will make it easier to follow progress of others in same boat.
