I need to review some other plans. I'm only paying for myself, and plans for single lines in the past has always been higher than my grandfathered unlimited plan. I don't pay for a texting plan since most of my texts are through iMessage to other iPhones. I use about 18gb per month just streaming radio and music.

Shouldn't this plan be called the 22GB plan not unlimited? What's unlimited about being speed throttled at 22GB?
It's not actually throttled, it's deprioritized just like the new plans.

It's unlimited because you can use as much data as you want.

I'm on UDP+ and I run over 22GB sometimes which deprioritizes me, but it still tends to work at full speed with only occasional slowdowns.

I switched my company from AT&T to T Mobile earlier this year. I was paying $367 per month for those grandfathered plans. My bill dropped to $160 plus I get free international roaming with unlimited 4G data. AT&T has better coverage and speed, but it’s not worth paying double.

Why are people not using Cricket? Identical Data Pans on identical AT&T Panel antennas for half the price

The plans aren't identical. Cricket limits speed to 3Mbps, can't be combined with DirecTV, no HBO included, and I don't think any international roaming at all. Also, it's not half the price, it's $100 vs $160.

Part of my reason for keeping mine is because ATT seems to want me off it. I don’t trust them. Is there any difference between the old grandfather’d unlimited plan and the newer ones?
The new ones are way better.

I was on the grandfathered plan in question until UDP+ came out last year, and I couldn't justify staying on the grandfathered plan due to how much better and cheaper the new plan was.

My old plan included: Unlimited data, 450 minutes, and unlimited texting for ~$95 a month. No ability to add a hotspot or north america roaming (Use your plan in Canada or Mexico).

UDP+ includes: Unlimited data, unlimited minutes, unlimited text, 10GB hotspot data, free HBO streaming, and north america roaming for $85 a month.

I'd been on the original unlimited plan since 2008 and I just couldn't justify it anymore, I was paying more for less.

I just checked their "new plans", and it's $17 cheaper than my grandfathered plan and comes with free hotspot data.

I have a lot of trouble understanding this line of thought. Businesses raise prices on products and services all the time. There is thing called inflation, and it costs them more money to operate year over year. Do you want to sue the grocery store because chicken costs more this year than it did last year? Ha, there is some old person somewhere angry because a gallon of milk used to cost .20 cents.
We are getting a very entitled attitude here in America now.
Inflation! Right! Less than 2% and this increase is a 12.5% increase. GREED.
Gallon of milk used to cost $0.99. No internet. No computer. No on-line ordering.
HOWEVER - before that, the milk was DELIVERED to your front door.

As a long time ATT customer, this might be my breaking point. Does it make sense for my "unlimited" monthly bill to be $180 for two lines (even after a 17% corporate discount). We pay for unlimited data, limited voice minutes, and $30 texting plan. Is this normal for those on unlimited plans?

Lately, I've noticed ATTs service is VERY slow, and I didn't know they cap speeds after 22GB, which means this isn't really an unlimited plan at all. Can someone tell me if my monthly cost of $180 seems right, and more importantly, why should I stay with ATT? Aren't most, if not all carrier's plans now unlimited up to a certain amount of GB? What's special about ATTs "unlimited" plan anymore?

I don't mind switching, but I want to make sure I get a better deal and don't regret leaving my unlimited plan. Thanks!
Why not switch to Unlimited Plus Enhanced at this point, honestly? Corporate discounts don't apply, but it's $150 for two lines before any discounts, and it's a better plan than your grandfathered plan.

Plus, you can get $20 a month in discounts with maybe 15 minutes of work, so it'd be $120 a month for two lines.

I have no problem with this.

People who are too cheap to buy a home internet connection are abusing the hell out of this and using it as their primary internet for an entire household.

Time to pay up.

This is false. One of the stipulations of the grandfathered unlimited plans is that you can't tether your internet connection. The only way to do that is through a jailbroken iPhone, which results in you losing your unlimited plan.

This is nothing more than AT&T trying to price us out. They clearly know something we don't.

I'm paying $210 for 2 lines on the AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan and 2 dumb phones without data. Plus I pay about $40 for my sons iPhone which is on simple mobile. Service in my office is terrible so this may be the final nail that has me really considering switching to a new carrier.

I've used 7.60GB so far and my wife has use 2.89.

They can cut the plan. They can raise the price of the plan... there's nothing that says they cannot.

Dumped ATT after last Grandfather increase and limits. Switched to T-Mobil. Pay less then $75 for three lines unlimited and an Apple watch. Couldn't be happier. Never going back to ATT.

I was petrified of getting rid of my grandfathered plan - I’d had it since my original iPhone. I finally just pulled the ripcord three months ago, and switched to the cheaper of the two AT&T unlimited plans.

I’ve noticed no changes.

Oh, except my bill went down substantially, and I also now get my DirectTV Now credit and free HBO.

Glad I finally got rid of it.

They will keep raising until get most everyone off. Probably shouldn’t be on this plan unless heavy user so they want to target them anyway.

OK, I'll bite since you've assumed everybody is familiar with US phone rental jargon. What's a "grandfathered" account?

Grandfathered is yet another word which companies have decided to change the meaning of in order to suit their purpose. It's much like the word "unlimited" which they modified to mean unlimited until they decide it isn't any longer.

Glad I switched to T-Mobile...been really happy with the service.

The only reason I still have AT&T Uverse, is because the other provider in my neighborhood, doesn't offer a whole home DVR and my wife likes that...happy wife, happy life...LOL :)

Be warned, I've seen several other threads where a bunch of people notice performance issues after switching from the grandfathered plans to the new Unlimited Plus plan.

https://webcache.googleusercontent....-Plan/td-p/5102836+&cd=13&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

In this thread for example, a bunch of people describe experiencing almost identical issues, while 3 specific users respond to every single complaint with the same generic answers that the plans are "NO DIFFERENT" and that something must be wrong with their phone. It becomes so obvious, other users start calling the 3 users out on it.

If the plans are the "exact same", AND the new ones are CHEAPER... then why is AT&T raising the price of just these grandfathered plans AGAIN ($15/month increase in under 2 years)???

I'm sure tons of people will tell you that "It's the same thing but BETTER! Look at all these new features!!!", but there is something going on here, and AT&T isn't being transparent about it.

No, it makes no sense to stay on these old plans. They were a great deal when that price included phone subsidies every two years, but those days are long gone.

"Unlimited" refers to the quantity of data, not the speed at which it's provided.

I don't mind switching, but I want to make sure I get a better deal and don't regret leaving my unlimited plan. Thanks!

It seems like the people with the grandfathered UDPs got so hung up on keeping them that they didn't notice when the newer unlimited plans actually got better than the old ones, like adding the hotspot feature and including unlimited voice/SMS.

I left AT&T when they raised it (again) last year. It was hard to give up, but I'm much happier now on Verizon with a hotspot and unlimited talk and text included.

Even if you don't want to leave AT&T, at this point it has to be cheaper to switch to their newer unlimited plan... which is of course their end-goal.

You should switch. I was on a plan like yours years ago. Paying for minutes, paying $30 for unlimited texting, then money for the data plan.
If you switch all that would be "removed" or just rolled into one price if you want to look at it that way. 2 phones with unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and unlimited data would cost you $145. Then whatever taxes. They also give you free hbo for life and if you are interested, a discount on direct tv.

If this is the case, then why are they raising the price of the grandfathered unlimited plans AGAIN? If we are already paying more money than the new unlimited plans they offer which are "better", then why try to price us out?

I actually sold my AT&T line with unlimited for as much as my iPhone a few years ago. If you still have your plan check eBay and you might still be able to do it.
