Apple had to fork the iOS 4 code to get the CDMA handset running. The iOS 5 code will likely be unified for both handsets. The main thing that concerns me is that it still seems as if AT&T is Apple's preferred company--firmware updates always seem to go out to AT&T iPhones so much earlier than Verizon. I'm hoping this sort of preferential treatment goes away over time.
Now that the question unlimited data at 3G or limited at 4G

BGR reports that AT&T is beginning preparations for an expected "early to mid-September" launch of the next-generation iPhone, in line with launch rumors and expectations and other reports of Apple beefing up its retail store staffing over a similar timeframe.Apple has been preparing to increase staffing at its retail stores in the United States and United Kingdom, and rumors have suggested that Apple will use its traditional fall iPod media event to introduce the next-generation iPhone this year. That event has typically taken place in early September, although some reports have pushed that date up into late August this year ahead of a September launch for the device. Apple has announced that iOS 5 will debut this "fall", and that software launch will undoubtedly occur right around the release of the next-generation hardware.

Rather unlikely. How likely would it be for a new model to show up without any type of event to announce it?
The funny thing for me is that people are wanting all these features and are saying it'll come in the 2012 update??? Who knows, you certainly don't! You people are expecting an update in August and when it comes, you are gonna be expecting another in June (probably not gonna happen)... What if this August release is the big 2012 iPhone you are all talking about, hints the delay, as well as all these lame rumors of iPhones over heating and wimpy stuff like that?! The iPhone 4 has been out for how long...and its still selling like hot cakes!? What if they come out with an iPhone 5 and keep it out until June 2013, then refresh it (Apple knows itll still sell for over a year and people will be upgrading in to June 2013 if this is the case)? You guys have def. thrown your opinion out there, just saying mine...
ok, while I hope you're right... since we are going off rumors here, and going ahead and treating this one as fact, we can also treat the other rumors we have heard about the iPhone 5 as fact as well, which have been in line with what people are saying here: that it's not going to be a huge upgrade. No LTE, etc.
4 inch screen minimum and LTE or its a no go for me... LTE has me spoiled with tethering![]()
None of this really matters though bc I can't see it not having the A5.
Let's see: Apple normally updates in June (every 12 months)
iPhone 4 had major negative publicity due to antenna
So Apple redesigns the phone and unleaded it upon all major carriers in US
They order 25 million iPhone 5 due to anticipated mega-demand
They release it in September (15 months between release)
Well, you can always buy SIM-free, thx to Apple's new policy a month ago. Once you bring it home, stick in your $15 -plan SIM card, and your good to go. The $650 for SIM-free (minus $200 what you would pay to upgrade) = $450. You will make up that $450 in about half a year, it will pay for itself by the reduced $15 data plan.
Yes, bc the A5 chip is the most important part of a PHONE. The current iPhone outperforms most others with better specs. These comments are so annoying.
