With 4G LTE, 4"+ screen size and 64 GB all most likely coming in the 2012 update, this will likely be the first iPhone generation that I skip. Suggest everyone with an iPhoe 4 do the same. That'll show 'em. :)

Not nearly as much info on what to expect from Verizon here. I've been limping along with an AT&T 3G since Jan '09, so it's definitely time for an upgrade. For me, a switch to Verzon makes sense (never had unlimited data on the 3G anyway, although I do have it on my AT&T iPad). I'll have much better voice reception in my two primary cities.

The main thing that concerns me is that it still seems as if AT&T is Apple's preferred company--firmware updates always seem to go out to AT&T iPhones so much earlier than Verizon. I'm hoping this sort of preferential treatment goes away over time.

I think everyone is just looking for any info about a new iPhone... Until Apple announces a phone these rumors come a dime a dozen.

Apple had to fork the iOS 4 code to get the CDMA handset running. The iOS 5 code will likely be unified for both handsets.

The preferential treatment has less to do with AT&T and more to do with the fact that the GSM iPhone is sold all over the world. GSM covers about 85% of this planet; CDMA is small potatoes compared to GSM.

How likely would it be for a new model to show up without any type of event to announce it?

what rumors point to the next iphone not having a larger screen? sounds like most of you guys are pretty sure about that. thats the single feature i want to have in the next iphone...at least a bigger screen!

if this doesnt happen i will have to seriously consider the galaxy s 2 or comparable android on att...

Friends with LTE report major battery life issues, and we don't have any LTE in NH so that's not an issue for me. What is an issue is the lousy AT&T coverage, so I'll likely use the fall launch as an excuse to switch carriers. I have the luxury of being able to do this because I'm on a corporate pooled plan.

A5 + 8 mp camera + bigger screen + aluminum metal back and I'd be happy.

It'll be @ 16 months since the last design update. I'd be shocked if it weren't at least tweaked and slightly slimmer form factor.

Hoping my 3G survives till September...

Now that the question unlimited data at 3G or limited at 4G

Considering I can stream netflix and spotify with no issues on 3g chances of me upgrading to a phone that puts me on a limited plan is slim to none till the apps I use require a higher os than what my phone will support. Maybe if I tethered I would be tempted but if I tethered I most likely would already be on a limited plan :)

The funny thing for me is that people are wanting all these features and are saying it'll come in the 2012 update??? Who knows, you certainly don't! You people are expecting an update in August and when it comes, you are gonna be expecting another in June (probably not gonna happen)... What if this August release is the big 2012 iPhone you are all talking about, hints the delay, as well as all these lame rumors of iPhones over heating and wimpy stuff like that?! The iPhone 4 has been out for how long...and its still selling like hot cakes!? What if they come out with an iPhone 5 and keep it out until June 2013, then refresh it (Apple knows itll still sell for over a year and people will be upgrading in to June 2013 if this is the case)? You guys have def. thrown your opinion out there, just saying mine...

BGR reports that AT&T is beginning preparations for an expected "early to mid-September" launch of the next-generation iPhone, in line with launch rumors and expectations and other reports of Apple beefing up its retail store staffing over a similar timeframe.Apple has been preparing to increase staffing at its retail stores in the United States and United Kingdom, and rumors have suggested that Apple will use its traditional fall iPod media event to introduce the next-generation iPhone this year. That event has typically taken place in early September, although some reports have pushed that date up into late August this year ahead of a September launch for the device. Apple has announced that iOS 5 will debut this "fall", and that software launch will undoubtedly occur right around the release of the next-generation hardware.

Gee, AT&T are just predicting what every one else is expecting.

6 weeks away and no leaked pics, cases or any other credible evidence of the mystical unicorn iPhone 5.

Though we all know that apple needs to release a new phone if it's going to maintain it's momentum in the smartphone market.

About a month ago, there were some photos of a possible iPhone 5 case, it had two holes in the back, the second hole presumably being for a flash.

Rather unlikely.

The iPhone is Apple's cash cow, generating half of the company's revenue. With its fat profit margin, it also drives profitability. A new phone is the most important announcement of the year for Apple and its shareholders.

Steve will get up on stage and announce "the iPhone 5, with the A5 chip, running iOS 5."

ok, while I hope you're right... since we are going off rumors here, and going ahead and treating this one as fact, we can also treat the other rumors we have heard about the iPhone 5 as fact as well, which have been in line with what people are saying here: that it's not going to be a huge upgrade. No LTE, etc.

I can see that there is not going to be LTE...its not ready, most people that buy it never even look to see if they have the service and chances are they don't with either carrier. Next I was just thinking about the people who are like well ill skip this upgrade because in June theyll upgrade again...I just don't see that being the case. I don't know, I could be wrong though, to me if they just release an iPhone 4 with a tech bump, they are really milking that design. (I also assume they will wanna get rid of the comments about antenna issues also which haunted the release of iPhone 4)

This screams "major update"

Let's see: Apple normally updates in June (every 12 months)
iPhone 4 had major negative publicity due to antenna
So Apple redesigns the phone and unleaded it upon all major carriers in US
They order 25 million iPhone 5 due to anticipated mega-demand
They release it in September (15 months between release)

THANK YOU +1

I think it's going to be HUGE, Apple may just be playing it down. They can release rumors too!

Well, you can always buy SIM-free, thx to Apple's new policy a month ago. Once you bring it home, stick in your $15 -plan SIM card, and your good to go. The $650 for SIM-free (minus $200 what you would pay to upgrade) = $450. You will make up that $450 in about half a year, it will pay for itself by the reduced $15 data plan.

Which would be a great idea and work perfectly.... if AT&T couldn't tell that I'd be using an iPhone.

The problem is, they can (easily) tell, there's no way around that, and, without warning, my monthly plan price would jump tremendously.

4 inch screen minimum and LTE or its a no go for me... LTE has me spoiled with tethering :)

The exact two things I'd rather it didn't have.

Unless Apple can squeeze a larger screen in and keep the phone the same size, then no thanks. I've seen phones with the bigger screens and the phones themselves are friggin' huge.

And unless the carriers up the data limits, LTE is going to be an expensive nightmare for users. I can imagine people passing their limits after a few days of use and ending up with a huge phone bill.
