Ahhh. It has become so clear now.

I just saw a Verizon TV commercial touting that they are dropping their Nationwide Unlimited pricing to...you guessed it! $69.99.

Whether or not ATT knew this in advance and countered with their own price drop, who knows. Or maybe Verizon got wind of ATT's new price and THEY reacted. Doesn't matter either way. It's a small step in the right direction with their overpricing.

Data plans available from Fido in Quebec, Canada
500 MB for $65 + taxes

65.00 CAD = 63.3784 USD for 500 MB of data on an iPhone
(Approximate conversion from Canadian dollars to US dollars from xe.com)

When I see the the unlimited data plans available to US customers, I just don't get it

another Canadian data plan,
this one is a bit better, 3GB for $100 + tx ... however, we're looking at 450 daytimes minutes in comparison to $99 USD for unlimited or at least 1000 minutes

Yeah, what you're missing, and I forgot to add in is Canada plan for $4 on 2 of the phones.

Okay, so the $150 I added up before + $4 x 2 = the $158 you're paying for now. And all of the prices that I quoted from earlier are the same prices that AT&T has been charging for some time now. So I don't see how AT&T is giving you a discounted rate. Sounds to me like you're paying the advertised rate. In other words, you are finally paying the amount that you would have been paying before had you activated the original iPhone as a shared-minutes line.

When I read your original message, I was hoping that it meant that if I called up AT&T, I could get them to discount our shared-minutes/family account further, but I'm highly doubtful that they will now.

I have a better idea. Charge the 10% of people that use 70% of the data $299 per month instead of $129 per month and lower the fee for the rest of us from $69.99 per month to $59.99 per month. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today

AT&Ts website changed today to reflect the new pricing. I changed mine online and then called to confirm. I was paying 99 for unlimited, 30 for data, and 20 for unlimited text (150 a month) Now I pay 69 for unlimited, 30 for data, and 20 for text (120 a month)

I am happy for the price reduction, but still feel it is robbery to charge 20 for unlimited text.

Correct. But she gave me a $250 credit and 1000 more minutes for what amounted to about $80 of overcharges. It wouldn't hurt to ask about the plan, tell them you think you've been overcharged and see if you can get a credit and extra minutes.

Why not use the app TextPlus? A couple of ignorable banner ads and you get free texting. Seems worth getting rid of the $20 monthly text charge to me.

That "new plan" does not appear

on their website, so I must clearly be missing something....

It is still a complete rip off... Sprint is the only one with a decent plan... Sure their cover coverage is lacking but if you are in a covered area its so much better, and SOOO much cheaper.. ATT and VZ are just screwing their customers... Why cant texting be included in their plan for 100 a month... 1200 a year and I still have to pay EXTRA to text... its RIDICULOUS!

I have to disagree with you here, the reason Verizon and At&t are more expensive is because of their networks, I know first hand that verizon spends 5+ billion on their network. I dont think Sprint has cleared 5 billion in profits in some time... they are clinging on to what little business they can keep, along with t-mobile, with last ditch efforts to try and undersell the big 2 in order to keep on.

they have no where near the voice or data coverage of verizon or at&t and nobody has the extensive 3g network that verizon does.

From what i understand the 4g network with verizon is due to launch end of 1st quarter or beginning of 2nd at which point i would not doubt that apple will jump on board and launch a VZW verizon of the iphone.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13970_7-10166622-78.html

They are going to have to allow VZW the ability to do trouble shooting on the device (verizon is bifg on keeping all tech issues inhouse and not having to rely on the manufacturer for this) and it will have to have a removable battery...

those are two factors that played into them not getting the original Iphone...

or if you have a data plan use email... which is essentially what a text is. most carriers have an option to email to a cell phone by using MDN@carrier.com etc

i am only familiar with verizon which is mobile#@vtext.com

Wireless

IPHONE 3GS
Rate Plan
Nation Unlimited $69.99

I logged in and selected change my plan. The new 69.99 price was there, but "my plan" was for 99.99. I switched no problem. Funny thing, AA&T are not advertising the price drop online, you gotta look for it.

From the first line of the story on the first page of the thread:

Responding to price cuts from Verizon, AT&T today rolled out new unlimited plans for all devices on its network,

I hope those of us who already have contracts will be "granfathered" in for the remainder of contract. A contract is just that a CONTRACT. Im paying for unlimted data, not 5gbs or less.

I am not that familiar with At&t but with verizon your data plan is a feature, both features and plans are not contract impacting (ie. you can change your plan without renewing your contract, you are not required to keep a plan for a minimum amount of time before changing it) so therefore if they change the feature itself you are bound to those changes. With verizon you are generally grandfathered with whatever features or plan you have until you do something that requires a change like purchase a new phone or switch to a new plan that requires that particular change.

most likely there is a clause in the terms and conditions you agree to before activating that they can change it at any time. i would check into it if you do get a notice from them. As of now its just a rumor so dont lose too much sleep over it.

I don't personally know anyone this benefits, but I'm glad to see AT&T trying to make things cheaper.

I've got a family plan with 3 iPhones, because we don't have the one plan this affects it doesn't help at all.

When are they going to offer a discount for multiple data plans?
Like:
1- $30
2- $55
3- $80

It's not a huge savings but it would help.;)

I called AT&T, they say this plan does not exist!

I have a family plan, the "FamilyTalk Nation 1400", with 4 phones. 3 of which are iPhones. When I log on to my account management site, this new plan is not available to me. So I called them today. The guy said there have been no rate plan changes in quite some time, other than the unlimited minutes plan drop, "FamilyTalk Nation Unlimited", which is $70.00 for the first line, $49.00 for each additional line, with a 2 line minimum. But this plan does not include data.

Is the original article here referring to this, and when the prices were referenced, the additional $30 for the iPhone data was calculated in? Or is there in fact a new "smart phone plan" that the rep hadn't heard of?

It refers to the Unlimited plans. None of the regular plans have had price changes.

Thanks. So basically if I want this new plan from the article, I sign up for "FamilyTalk Nation Unlimited", at $70 a month for the first line, and keep my $30/month data for iPhone option, right?

That's cool. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the new plan plan from the article was specific for smart phones and included the data...
