This is not accurate. What they have announced today is real 5G NR in the 850MHz band. "5G+" is AT&T marketing name for 5G NR in the mmWave spectrum. "5GE" is really just a stupid marketing name for LTE.that big coverage map above is for sub 6mm wavelengths (5GE) which is marginally better than 5G. If you look at their 5G+ (real 5G)coverage map, its only available in a couple huge cities.
Meanwhile in New Hampshire on Verizon. For the record, zero service here with AT&T (switched away 2 years ago to Verizon). I'm so sick of 'future tech' while a huge swath of the country doesn't even have 3G. I live 5 miles from Dartmouth College. Sigh. When I moved to New Hampshire from downtown San Francisco 10 years ago, I thought by now, I'd be able to use streaming music. 10 freaking years. The FCC really needs to get it's **** together and bring a nationwide 3G to everyone.
thanks for chiming in. If I have good service with AT&T, I'm an apologist? I suspect millions of other customers are fine with their AT&T service.Wow... talk about sensitive.
I've had AT&T for around 15 years, but you won't see me acting like an apologist for them. USA has it pretty bad in terms of getting our dollars value for cellular service.

One of the perks on this forum is the ignore list. I take full advantage when I see idiotic posts or reactions. It makes browsing the forums so much better!
Yep. they need $, they don't let you die that easy! No matter how bad 5G is, you will be using it 5 years from now, just deal with it and ENJOY.Oh boy... Ohhhhh boy....
You really really need to stop frequenting the wackadoodle 'science' websites and start listening to the real folks.
That's a whole load of twaddle you've posted there.
For example, we've had beamforming in routers for over 10 years now, and beamforming itself is over 100 years old.

Nationwide. Riiight. It’s the teal color, folks. From the company that brought you the wonderful world of “5G Evolution” (about which they also lied about stopping the misleading label). They probably also wouldn’t hesitate to call it statewide in places like IA, NB, ND, SD, and NC where there’s a pixel on two sides.

please explain why someone who has had good experience with AT&T is an apologist.Enjoy your bubble.
I am lucky enough to have 4G in part of my very rural home. I bought a 4G extender from Verizon and now I have 4G everywhere in the home and in about a 50 foot radius around the house. That doesn't help me when I leave home though. Most of the 45 minute drive to town is without service.
That doesn’t work for me. That’s like putting a hotspot at each distant end of an airport and claiming “Terminal wide WiFi! – just not in all areas.” Using that term is just a slippery marketing dodge just accurate enough to explain away when interpreted a specific manner. “West coast plus greater NY metro, so nation wide, amiright??” Exactly what I’d expect from Corporate America. They should say, Nationwide but not in all areas.

WHO the heck is still using a 3G only phone? That would have to be an iPhone 4S or older, a 9 year old phone. And AT&T is phasing out 3G in 2022. They say it's "to make room for newer technologies that will improve your service and experience" but will it actually? Or is it mainly a way to make people with older phones upgrade?
This is absolutely real. They urgently need the spectrum that's currently occupied by 3G. Dropping 3G will also significantly simplify their core network. And AT&T is phasing out 3G in 2022. They say it's "to make room for newer technologies that will improve your service and experience" but will it actually? Or is it mainly a way to make people with older phones upgrade?

They need the spectrum for 5G.
Im not an AT&T fan, but your comment is nonsense.
The 3G spectrum will be re-farmed to 4G and 5G. Service should get better since the newer systems have better spectrum efficiency. Not a 3G only phone, but sometimes I’ve been dropped back to 3G signal in some areas. Probably not much anymore (I think it’s mainly 4G I’m typically falling back to lately), but will those 3G areas lose service or be switched to better service? I’m all for improvement if it’s replacing the old with new.

Using Sioux City, NE (across river)I was about to say "Nationwide? I don't even see my city in the list." Then I saw your map. I wonder what the hold up in Nebraska and Iowa is? Sioux City, South Dakota has more 5G coverage than Nebraska for crying out loud!
