FaceTime over cellular/tethering

This is not working for me. I have the unlimited plan and I restarted my iPhone 5. Interestingly during an online chat with an AT&T representative, they said an iPhone5 user should be able to tether free of charge, this also doesn't work. In both cases I get the message to contact AT&T.

No luck in Brisbane, California

I'm in Brisbane (first city south of San Francisco on the Peninsula). Just did reset on iPhone 5/iOS6.0.1. Grandfathered unlimited data from iPhone 3G.

Facetime over cellular is not working -- still saying I need wi-fi or eligible cellular data plan.

That rep was full of _ _ _ _.

iPhone 5, AT&T, unlimited

Turned it off, turned it on, checked the settings, switch was enabled, but then disabled itself after 1 second.

Did a hard reset (home+sleep) and now it's enabled permanently!

Haven't actually tested it, but looks good to go :D

EDIT - Near central Virginia ish

I did that too, and mine is now on. Niagara Falls, NY

No luck in Twin Falls, ID. I've tried all the suggestions listed in this thread.

Grandfathered unlimited data plan on iPhone 5.

It was working this morning on my unlimited iPhone five, but no longer works tells me to contact AT&T. So perhaps it was a mistake they took it away?

In NYC by the way

Mine is no longer "on" either and can't be turned on without contacting 611 to change data plans. Seems it was taken away now.

Unlimited Data / Grandfathered plan HELP?

All,

I am wondering if any of you who have grandfathered data plans like I do (on my 4S) get throttled after the 3gb or 5gb marks?

I have been getting texts saying I am over my "monthly limit" when I hit the 3gb mark.

I've been told I can still use data, but it will be throttled greatly.

I am wondering if each of you experiences this, or, if they are just trying to shaft me on what I am rightly paying for.

I ask this so I can be prepared for when FaceTime over cellular actually IS enabled for me (in Tampa, still not working), because I do plan on using it, a lot =)

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

No go in LA, CA

I have a iph5 with unlimited data.. still getting the ATT pop up.

Is anyone in Los Angeles or So Cal getting facetime over cellular?

Facetime Faied "Connect to a Wi-Fi network to use FaceTime".
iPhone4 running 5.1.1. Palo Alto, CA

Perhaps if you upgrade to 6.0.1 :)

It works for me in iPhone 5 and 4S, both on 6.0.1, or try to reboot the phone. I have a grandfathered unlimited plan in the iPhone 5 line, and a grandfathered 200MB plan in the 4S.

AT&T rep said that grandfathered unlimited do not get face time and that if I was able to access it was a mistake.

Yes, after 3GB on 3G/4G or 5GB on LTE you will get barely usable speeds.

I've tried just about every "trick" I see here and it's been a no go for me.

iPhone 5, grandfathered unlimited, iOS 6.01. When I start up the phone the switch is on, but that's before it connects to AT&T's towers. Once it has a signal it immediately turns itself off.

Same for me AT&T unlimited since first iPhone and I still obtain the popup dialog suggesting me to call At&t for downgrading my plan.

Unlimited Plan- Iphone 5 FaceTime over cellular works flawless. Connecticut, just restart iphone 5 and magic. Glad to see AT&T came around.

Sent with IPhone 5 AT&T

UPDATE: FaceTime no longer available over cellular for my iphone 5 in Connecticut. AT&T get you stuff together. Thanks for nothing.

I've had this for a little while now on my unlimited plans because I complained. Here is a copy of the email I sent to my AT&T representative who received my FCC Complaint:

"The following is an excerpt from FCC 10-201 rule:

"A person engaged in the provision of fixed broadband Internet access service, insofar as
such person is so engaged, shall not unreasonably discriminate in transmitting lawful
network traffic over a consumer’s broadband Internet access service. Reasonable
network management shall not constitute unreasonable discrimination"

The rule later defines unreasonable discrimination as:
"In evaluating unreasonable discrimination, the types of practices we would be concerned about include, but are not limited to, discrimination that harms an actual or potential competitor to the broadband provider (such as by degrading VoIP applications or services when the broadband provider offers telephone service), that harms end users (such as by inhibiting end users from accessing the content, applications, services, or devices of their choice), or that impairs free expression (such as by slowing traffic from a particular blog because the broadband provider disagrees with the blogger’s message)."

AT&T's decision to block FaceTime over cellular network is a direct violation of FCC 10-201 rule as evidenced by the statement in bold above. The rule in its entirety can be found on the FCC.gov website here: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/FCC-10-201A1_Rcd.pdf"

So if anyone is still having a hard time, or it is not yet enabled yet... Definitely file an FCC report and use my statement as a template. Definitely worked for me!

Mine was working earlier but now it says I need a special data plan again. I'm about to just restore my phone anyways so ill see if it works after that
