AT&T Shared Upgrade

ATT now allows shared/transfer upgrades via online. It wasn't an option before. Now you just have to click a button.

I just saw that option recently. Have been 10 plus year Cingular/ATT customer before and haven't seen this option.

I do this every year. My daughter's phone is always 2 years old, I use her upgrade and buy the new phone, then hand her my 1 year old phone and get ATT to switch the numbers.

This way I always have an upgrade available every year.

No, it's not as simple as switching the sim cards. They will use your IMEI number (go to settings, general, about and scroll down) to program the right number to the right phone. And yep, they can do this over the phone.

Your IME has nothing to do with your sim card.. The sim card is for use on ATT. Doesn't matter what line you use your sim on.

I didn't say the IMEI was associated with the sim card. I said switching lines between phones was done with the IMEI number.

My wife got my 5s after I got my 6. My 6 came ready for my number. I just put the sim from her 5 into the 5s and it worked right away. A few days prior when I asked the ATT employee if I had to call to get the 5s to work on her line, she said no, just put the sim in and their system knows what phone it is. No need to call and tell them you are doing this.
