I wonder how many of those AT&T users have the grandfathered unlimited data plan. The only reason I haven't left for Verizon is the unlimited data, even if it's throttled.

AT&T is going to dominate at the end of the day, I like many have also recently switched to AT&T GoPhone $60 plan, which works great and LTE speeds are amazing!

Wish there was a way to reset the Poll to see how many have ditched Straight Talk and few other MVNO's since, but sadly forum mods say its not possible.

Also more people go for AT&T because of broader coverage and better building penetration and I would imagine Verizon also has great coverage but I would hate to be on their CDMA network tho for any time of it....AT&T 3G(4G) is far greater than CDMA 3G.

So for straight talk with a AT&T SIM card I will have access to the AT&T towers? For an iPhone 4

Yup but I don't think they sell AT&T straight talk sims anymore. My buddy got in the deal after I told him about it, and loves ST. Gets the same coverage as me on AT&T for $45 plus tax. He is a moderate data user so the data works for him. Kinda wish I got in the deal with ST but I'm on contract.

You can Pick up the AT&T Prepaid GoPhone plan for $54 - Refill from callingmart.com (they currently have the 10% off coupon bringing the $60 down to $54/month) - This is what I do and every month I refill accordingly - gives me great service with all the iPhones features (MMS, Visual VM, LTE etc) - Don't have to rely on ST and altering things to get some features to work.

I too was on ST for the longest time as it was definitely the company to be with I would say up until the end of the AT&T SIM era and was considering alternatives because I wanted to enjoy LTE and MMS on my iPhone 5 without having to hop through loops (yes it may be easy but its time consuming as it would stop working every now and then), not to mentioned 2GB Data at full speeds...unlike Straight Talks which offered "UNLIMITED" yet truly limited data set at buckets they found fair for you....I once got a call at 1.5GB/month usage vs some people having reports 5GB+ usage.....and this plan came up just in time for the rescue.

probably the fact that T-Mobile offers inferior service vs AT&T when it comes to suburbs and lower building penetration.

Glad its back, now those pigs on eBay can stop selling the Straight Talk SIM's for ridiculous prices like $40-$80

Cool!!!!

I'm guessing no LTE coverage though huh? I just shared this with my friend since he needs to save cash. I pay $53 on AT&T now anyways so don't need it.

No they dont offer LTE coverage on Straight Talk...but to be honest if you end up buying the straight talk refills from straight talk or wallmart you end up paying close to $49.xx and for that reason I would recommend going with AT&T goPhone plan thats for $60 and use callingmart.com to refill as they give 10% off = $54...you get SUPERIOR service + LTE + MMS+VVM + International texting (doesnt get better then that)

Thread updated, Now You have Two 3 great options for LTE from AT&T:

1) Straight Talk ($45) - Highly Recommended
2) AT&T GoPhone
3) AIO

I think soon we can expect T-Mobile MVNO's to enable LTE such as Simple Mobile

Also AT&T buying/bought Cricket Wireless, giving it a boost to its LTE Network! Maybe that explains why we are seeing LTE on Straight Talk (AT&T SIM's) and AIO as well as GoPhone Prepaid with GoPhone Prepaid + Straight Talk getting full pledge LTE speeds (have seen tests posted on other sites with 20+Mbps speeds)

How to Straight Talk?

Hi, I'm getting the Verizon iPhone 5s and I plan to get the Straight Talk service but I'm still confused as for the process to get the Straight Talk. I went to their website but I'm sorry I'm still a little confused. I've been with major carriers and never with prepaid plans so sorry for the ignorance.

First of all, I would like to port my Verizon number to Straight Talk and so how do I do that? So can I just go to Walmart and buy the Straight Talk sim card? If so, what kind of sim card do I buy? The AT&T compatible Micro sim card or the AT&T sim card? And once I get the sim card, I guess I will replace the Verizon sim card on the iPhone 5s with the Straight Talk sim card and does it work automatically? Will I be able to port my Verizon number thru Straight Talk thru the phone?

Or do I just go to Straight Talk website and use their 'Activate Service with a number from another company feature' providing my iPhone 5s serial number, zip code and credit card number? But will it work without having a Straight Talk sim? And once I have ported my Verizon number to Straight Talk, do I still have to call Verizon to cancel my service? I'm really new in all of this so sorry for the questions but please advise. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

*bump. Sorry, hoping to get some answers soon before my iPhone 5s gets here. Thanks.

iPhone on Red Pocket

I am having an issue getting group SMS with my iPhone on Red Pocket. I can easily send and receive single name SMS but when I add multiple names it seems people do not get the SMS. Is there a setting I am missing? With AT&T it works fine.

looks like straight talk is officially 2.5gb of high speed data.

So I wonder if it's worth switching from Verizon then? I average about 3GB data every month. I wonder how slow it's going to be when they cap the speed? And will I get a warning message of some kind if I'm over 2.5 GB speed often?:(

i doubt you'll get a warning message, you'll just notice your internet is unusable.

Not sure why Verizon would be an appropriate change from straighttalk, seeing how its 500% more expensive :D. Basically to get another 2.5gb of high speed, you have to pay another $45.

Personally, im going to take a go at the Tmobile $70 unlimited plan.

Screen Shot with "Home" = Straight Talk LTE

Average Speed = 6-8Mbps in Downtown Chicago (I've done bunch of more tests after taking the screen shot) - I'll test it around IL in the coming month and re-post but I think we can see some solid LTE speeds despite higher PING

The lower few tests were done with my iPhone 5S next to another 5S doing LTE tests together (seems to have impacted the speed)

Compared to AT&T GoPhone SIM I have, The LTE Speeds are the same in my current location, however Ping on AT&T GoPhone vs Straight Talk = very low (Average 40 on GoPhone vs 166 on ST)

I've included a pic of my GoPhone LTE Results from Speeds around the state of IL (Mostly Chicago)

What you can get with just PrePaid = Worth it, and its barely any different (only difference is PING) but on GoPhone I have seen Ping as low as 10, so those of you that think best data can only be had on PostPaid should reconsider.

From what I know Visual Voicemail does not work work MVNO's.

Original Post updated with a cleaner/more neat layout of the important information.

I'm using Straight Talk with the new LTE card in it. I just got 20.52mbs download and 5.34mbs upload... For where I live, that is amazing... especially considering I was getting 3.5mbs upload with my old card...

Wow, I knew Straight Talk will throttle your data speed after 2.5 GB but didn't think that it's going to be this slow. My speedtest shows average of .05 mbps only up/down now that my data is being throttled, still got 5 days left from my prepaid service with them. Should I switch to another carrier? Should I try Aio's 7GB data for $70? Which carrier is the best in California?

Can anyone share their speed info on their carrier with 4G speeds and no LTE only? I'm thinking of switching from Straight Talk and get a larger data cap on the carriers that do them but most of them do 4G speeds only, like Simple Mobile or Aio, I'm curious as to how their speed performance especially around California.

After 2.5GB, they will throttle you to less than 1 Mbps which is awful and visual voicemail may or may not work and their customer service are worst.

And so I decided to try and switch to Tmobile prepaid plan. I got the $30 prepaid plan per month which has unlimited Text, 100 minutes voice(which I don't use very often) and unlimited data plan but LTE speed up to 5GB only and will reduce after 5GB. Visual Voicemail, MMS and no need to manually setup APN settings, everything works after transferring to them.

I get average 15 Mbps down and 10 Mbps from them here at San Diego, CA. I hope all goes well for me with them for long term.
