Where they get you, is you no longer have the $25 credit for bringing your own phone/or non-subsidized phone.
Yeah, interesting how they lowered the monthly data plan cost (significantly, for a plan with as much data as Unlimited), but upped the line access fees.

Seems like this makes it less expensive for folks with only 2-3 lines vs. if they priced it the traditional way.

Can you upgrade the AT&T wireless unlimited data plan online without going to a store from a limited data plan ?

Would it not make sense to switch from my grandfathered unlimited plan? I have the 450 minutes($40), plus unlimited text($20) & unlimited data($35), which will be going up to $40. So $100 a month(this is before my monthly discount). When the price for unlimited data goes up, I'll be paying the exact same price, except I won't have unlimited minutes & texting if I don't switch?

What are the pros and cons? Is there anything I'm missing?

Why are you paying $20 for the unlimited text?!?! Call retentions dept and tell them to give you the $10 unlimited text plan, and if you don't talk much on the phone there's also a 300 minutes plan for $30

I my family unlimited text is $30. How do you get it for $20 or even $10?

Also, I have 550 minutes with about 5000 rollover minutes. I didn't see a plan with less minutes than that. Is the only way to get that by calling in? Do you know if I'll lose those rollover minutes?

Thanks

You maybe able to get them to give you the family text plan for $20 but minimum family talk minutes is 450, which is $40, depending on the number of people on the plan. 300 minutes and the $10 text plan is only for single line plans

You lose the minutes but it's worth the switch because you get unlimited everything. I did the math and with my 4 lines it saves me money plus I get unlimited everything. It was still nerve racking to let go of the grandfathered unlimited data.

i saw a table today of all unlimited plans compared in a matrix row/column checklist, and at&t looks like they are gouging their customers. Highest price, and no tethering. It was insane to see it laid out like that.

No one said it's the most important factor. Simply providing a single example of just one difference that plays a role (not that a comparison of small islanding contries somewhere somehow demonstrates something about much bigger areas that are the width of a continent with different population densities in different locations). Simply saying we get more for less of something doesn't really mean anything one way or another. Far more to it all than just something simplistic like that. Tons of things are different among different countries for all kinds of reasons and have been so for ages. To somehow imply that it's strange or shocking or weird or anything or the sort is rather silly.

All it shows is that things are different in different places and have been so for ages(and not necessarily for just one or two reasons that you mention). Nothing new or surprising or strange about any of it.
of course, that is why in the beginning I said "just to give you some perspective".

It looks like you lose AT&T Next with this plan. Can anyone who has switched confirm this?

If you are talking about the discount on access per line (minus $25 from $40 to pay $15 access per line), then yes. But NEXT is still in effect.

Thanks, I meant the discount per line for using Next. I did a comparison and it looks like the unlimited plan will cost more because there is no AT&T Next discount.

Sorry, I find phone plans and all the fine print very confusing.

This new plan that will now include tethering is a much better deal for everyone except for people with 2 lines. It goes up by $5. From $140 to $145. I know it includes tethering but for single lines and 3 lines the new plan went down $20 and will include tethering. I wish 2 lines also went down by $20 and added tethering. For the time being I rather save the $5 a month and not change to the plan that includes tethering. I changed from the old grandfathered unlimited @ $170 to the new 2 line $140 unlimited.
