I have sold and bought iPad unlimited data and have had no problems. (Sold one and bought 2).

You can't sell your unlimited plan. Yes the unlimited plan is tied to the SIM card but the SIM card is tied to you. If you sell the SIM card and even walk the new owner of that SIM card into an AT&T service center they will not transfer the account to another name. So be super careful if you sell your SIM card because you maybe paying for someone else's unlimited data plan if you don't cancel it prior to you selling the SIM card. This is in the terms and conditions page of the unlimited plan. The plan stops when the account holder name changes. End of story. So those ebay SIMS are a scam.

Buyer beware!!!!

Since you've done this, please tell me how. I'm not out to screw anyone, but I would like to sell my iPad with an unlimited SIM, or just the unlimited SIM itself. How do you disconnect your name and credit card info from the SIM you're selling? If you could please let me know the best way to structure this transaction, I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is the reply from the ebay seller selling the "Unlimited SIM," on ebay. How many of you would feel comfortable buying this SIM. I'm just saying....

Hi,
The iPad are prepaid, and not like the phone service in Att, and IT IS Possible to sell it, how do I know?? I buy 2, here in EBay, but I only need 1, that's why I'm selling the other one, why I buy 2? I was bidding in 2 items and end up winning both, so I had to pay for them, and they were both in other people name, and all you/I have to do is change the credit card information/billing information in your name, and YES it let me do this, even ONLINE, you don't even have to give me your information... And yes I have heard if you Call att, they will say you can't , BUT I know you can, because I buy them, and I just change the information, you can also do it in your settings after getting the sim card. I will not be selling it, if I didn't know if it was a way to do this and change it to your own name...
Thank you for email, if you need more information, let me know...v

I did it in person, through Craigslist. When I sold mine, I logged into my account in front of the person and had the person change the info to his/her name, address and cc #. To verify, all I had to do was log in with my info, which would result in a failed log in (since the SIM card already has the buyer's information). When I bought the unlimited data, the seller logged into the account on the iPad with his info and I changed it to mine.

If you are selling your unlimited data through eBay, I would change your information to a different email address (just create one for this purpose) and a $30 Visa gift card (or something like that). Then all you have to do is mail the seller the SIM card with the email address log in and password. If the buyer doesn't change the info to his/her info, you wouldn't be charged more than the amount of your $30 visa gift card.

OMG this is so not right. If you have to go through this much trouble you know it is not right. How long do you think it will be before AT&T catches on to all the Unlimited Sims that all of the sudden have had their accounts changed in the last 14 days. I would bet AT&T will shut down those "new," accounts ASAP and possible hold the person who first owned the Sim liable because this is clearly against AT&T's policy.

Hey I doh't work Apple or AT&T but I know what is right. I am just trying to warn other users on this forum that you could be out $$$ if you buy one of these SIM's or you could be in jeopardy somehow if you sell one.

Its not that much for the iPad. One Netflix movie is 400-500 MB. Streaming Pandora, iHeart, ect... adds more. Its very quickly adds up to a basal amount of ~1 GB per day.

So have you replaced your home internet service with mobile?

I'll be hoping Verizon follows this precedent too.

Having been one of those who stuck with Verizon despite wanting an iPhone since the first one came out, and therefore promptly pre-ordering and getting one of the CDMA iPhones, I'd hope they'd return loyalty with loyalty and allow those of us with unlimited (sort of) data plans to carry them over to some future update (not the iPhone 5 unless I want to shell out big bucks. But maybe the one after that, when it comes out; hopefully it should be LTE and capable of global operation).

Clearly you do not know the meaning of bait and switch. You remind me of the Arcade Fire song Rococo using those big words you don't understand. ATT did not bait and switch. At the time of the announcement they allowed all new and prospective 3G owners grandfather into the plan. They did not force people into a different plan and they are, in fact, letting people transfer the plan to a new device. Also, as with all carriers you sign a contract, be it for one month or 24. That says they can change the price. Again not bait and switch. Rococo.

You're so so very wrong...

When the iPad was first announced the big thing concerning data plans was
-No Contract
-250MB or Unlimited Plan, start and stop whenever you like!

Then a month after the iPad is out they announce that the unlimited plan is going away and if you want to keep it plan on paying $30 a month for the rest of your life. It doesn't matter that it's not in THE CONTRACT with AT&T. When Steve Jobs comes out on stage and says no contracts, unlimited bandwidth, pay as you go! Then a month later they change that, that's bait and switch. And the reason they can legally do it is because you don't have agreement on data pricing tied to the device when you bought it.

Now this doesn't probably peeve you, because you are on an unlimited plan and plan and want to keep it. But you can't deny there was a huge complaints from people on the forums back then when it announced. People bought possibly an $830 device and were just they couldn't use it the way they were told they could use it one month prior.

You're out of your mind if you pay $830 for a freaking iPad. Plus data cost. For that much money you can get a netbook with a 3/4G card with unlimited data. I'll stick with the WIFI model.

You're new around here, aren't you?

damn! i really want the unlimited data plan. There must be someway to get it by arguing with at&t. I don't want to end up getting a wifi ipad. The 2 GB for $20 is garbage. I've used 2 GBs on my second day of the billing plan on my iphone.

I'm unsure why this is news. Wouldn't just swapping a SIM tied to an unlimited data plan in to an iPad 2 be easier than calling AT&T and having them switch ESNs, risk screwing up, etc. Was there possibility of AT&T cancelling the data plan if the device ID changes?

I had my iPad replaced under warranty at the Apple store, and all the Genius had to do was swap Sim cards, and I was running in an instant on my 3G Unlimited Plan, which has continue to automatically renew itself.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL): iPad Price Squeezes Competitors
08 Mar 2011
By Amy Gilroy

"Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) may have sent competitors scrambling once again with the launch of the iPad 2. Taiwanese news outlet Digitimes reports that 2 or 3 computer vendors now plan to postpone their tablet PC launches as they redesign products to achieve lower costs.

The new iPad 2, which goes on sale March 11, adds features such as dual cameras, dual core processing and a gyroscope in a slimmer and lighter form, while keeping the price similar to the original iPad, starting at $499.

And the original iPad now drops to $399 for the WiFi 16GB model, which is putting considerable pressure on competitors, said Digitimes.

..."

And the new ipad is the only one with dual core processor shipping in large volumes.

Amen. Great post.

Use it all the time, as much as you want!

Oh, wait...Hey grandma, only 2 of those netflix movies! Don't want you being a terrible abuser now having watched a few more netflix movies now

fyi to anyone weary about losing your unlimited plan by letting it lapse.

I have had the unlimited since 4 days after the ipad 3g was released.

Three or four months ago I forgot to pay to renew the plan and started freaking out when I realized it, HOWEVER, when I signed in on the cellular data page on my ipad, low and behold, 250MB $15, 2GB $25, and Unlimited $30.

This has happened to me twice, so I am convinced that if it is associated with your account it will not disappear if you don't immediately renew.

Just my experience.

Has ATT come out and said officially that all you have to do to retain the unlimited plan is swap out the old micro sim into the iPad 2? I haven't seen that yet anywhere.

Go to:

www.att.com/ipadlanding

edit payment information link...then update the following two fields:
IMEI:
ICCID:

You get this info from the iPad (1 or 2) selct 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'...

The IMEI and ICCID info is on that screen. No need to swap the SIM cards. This process outlined above transfers service instantly and does NOT change the plan type, billing, user info, or days remaining. Basically anytime an ATT customer wants to move a data plan the ATT iPad web page is all you need. No phone call!

If you got an unlimited SIM from someone else, can you still do this?
