So my latest update. I ordered my t-mobile sim cards. My original plan was to put the sim cards into 2 older phones, port the #s over and then get our phones unlocked and switch the sims to our newer phones. I spoke to the retention department at ATT and was asking them how long after the # was ported could I get my unlock code. The woman was very nice and expedited things by cancelling our current contracts on the spot. I then went into the tool and requested our unlock codes. Got them and have them now for when out sim cards arrive on Thursday.

So the rep canceled your contracts and you were able to get your phones unlocked before you even ported out?

Exactly. Which I thought was pretty nice of her.

I'm surprised she did that. What if you decided not to port out in the end? They can't exactly re-lock the phones, and you could potentially keep your unlimited data.

Indeed. At the end of the day - if I did stay, they win. If I leave - they haven't lost anything they would have. So I'm sure it's a "wash" either way. I am sure if I tried to get a new phone through one of their plans something would get flagged.

FYI, just got my first bill with the new $35 unlimited data price. My 20% FAN discount still applies to the new rate.
