Did NOT Say Unlimited isn't around still
at T-Mobile

Un throttled? Again surely you jest?
Do I need to link articles to throttling practices too?

You weren't very specific in the original post. But as you've confirmed, they did increase plan prices for new users, whereas AT&T increased the cost for existing users while not even offering it to new customers anymore.

And yup. T-Mobile's now $95 unlimited high-speed data is unthrottled, except for the very rare chance that you end up in an extremely congested area.

I thought they throttled (if they "need" to) the data after using over 23GB. Caption under selecting the unlimited plan on the website indicates this.

Actually they changed to
"a Complex secret algorithm that randomly selectively throttles based on network traffic locally and the amount of data you've consumed at any given point in a cycle"

It's not a hard limit but that tells me sometimes you get full speed sometimes you get slow ( I've experienced this many times this year on TMO work phone and the prepaid I was gifted for my birthday which in retrospect was lousy but eh 3 mos prepaid service free I'll take it )

At least ATT has been upfront and fully predictable and transparent with pricing, and with throttle practices setting more hard clear limits ( 22GB then throttle as needed due to congestion for ULDP customers or No Throttle but pay per usage overages for tiered/limited plans ) a lot more clear cut than some algorithm known only to the carrier

( both TMO and Sprint doing that )

Rather doing it to new or to existing either way "some" users are getting screwed to some extent.

Same tactics different execution

"very rare chance"
Doesn't seem so rare. Seen, heard, experienced many a throttle issues.

Guess I travel, and live in a "very rare"
( always ) congested market then lol

As someone's who's grandfathered into the $20 unlimited high-speed add-on, how am I getting screwed? Nothing has changed for me, and I'm fine with that. Still using the usual 50GB+ per month with no throttling.

I personally could care less about spending 5.00 I waste money all the time. It is the principle that these cell phone companies Nickel and Dime especially long time customers, there is no value for Loyalty. This is literally only to squeeze money/motivate people to switch to tiered pricing, along with the upgrade fee increase and all the other nonsense some big wig just generated hundred of millions in revenue without having any overhead.

+1 But now "big wigs" want to change contracts in the way they want, not contract says. I do understand that 5 dollars not much, but nobody can tell me "don't like - switch!!!"

I'm confused.

From the part of the contract that deals with what happens when AT&T changes the price (that you posted back in post #162), it sounds like AT&T is following what's written in the contract.

People will always complain when prices go up. It doesn't matter if their service gets better or the product changes. If the price goes up, the complaints go up.

Lawsuit for breaking contract.
I guess you can file a lawsuit if one party fails to abide by the terms of the contract, but so far it looks like AT&T is abiding by the part of the contract that deals with rate increases. So no lawsuit over that.

Millions of people break this contract every year when they switch to another company before this contract is over. There is a provision in this contract that imposes a penalty for that: having to pay an early-termination fee.

AT&T can change the rate. There is a provision in this contract that imposes a penalty for that: letting the customer out of the contract early with no early-termination fee.

Price goes up $5 for the first time since iPhone 3G... And people are gonna complain. America is great.

This is nowhere near the levels of evil that is Verizon.

Wow - what an aspiring thing to be less evil than Verizon.

Some nutters actually believe this just because of gimmicks or the few places the signal is better provided you don't travel much lol

I'm totally Team ATT btw
And a mostly satisfied customer

Oh and to the ATT haters

Whoa, hope this is indeed the case. I hadn't read that about the 2x data. Sweetness!!

So as a current unlimited user, Would this change in February allow me to switch carriers and not have to pay off my remaining 2-year contract / early termination fees? (e.g., the phone is mine and I can switch carriers if i choose?)

So glad I left AT&T, for T-Mobile, when the 6s came out. Every call I made to AT&T always wound up big about them trying to get me to ditch my unlimited data plan. They treated me like a bum for so long that it felt good to tell them to take a hike. A couple months into T-Mobile, and I'm happy as a clam!

My AT&T unlimited plan was ~$120, plus a lot of extra surprises every month (eg. ~$15 Canada calls, etc.)
My T-Mobile plan is $80, and it includes Mobile Hot Spot!!!! A bunch of other extras too, like Canada/Mexico calls & roaming, etc.

A few months in and I don;t think I can say that I've dropped on call, for T-Mobile. Some of my data has bee faster, but admittedly there were a few areas where my data was slower. But the Hot Spot feature absolutely rocks!!! I now use it so much that I have bo idea how I ever lived without it?

Was AT&T for about 20yrs, but they were doing everything in their power to force me to leave. Now, I'm with someone who is happy that I;'m on their unlimited plan. T-Mobile sees an unlimited user as a customer, while AT&T sees us as crooks.

Bye, AT&T!!!!

They've done the 2X data promos before.
In this case looks to be a limited time freebie ( 26 months or just over 2 year long automatic perk ) for a select amount of "long time loyal customers"

Whom have a plan that can be doubled Data Wise. It most definitely is the case for at least some people though.

Yes all you'd owe is whatever your current bill and/or billable use up to that point is and if your phone has ANY Unpayed balance or installments that too

I am also a Unlimited customer (2 lines). We did the AUP with the last iPhone release so we aren't attached to any particular carrier once our contracts are up.

The new mobile share plans technically offer enough data for what we use. However I just can't bring myself to give up the unlimited. But now the $5 for each....so bill goes up $10. Ughhh.

Being able to get out of our contracts is good though I guess. Could just go to another carrier all together. But sounds like other carriers may not be a better option?!!

I wonder this also....

They will not price you out, the next move, and it will be soon is to do away with the plan.
I believe they are obligated by the terms of the contract to honor those terms as long as you are in good standing. So, as long as you are willing to pay their price and adhere to your end of the contract you can continue in the unlimited plan.

It's all up to experience, where you're located , if you travel ( and how much you travel) what you want out of a carrier etc. Personally no as someone with lots of "carrier hopping" exp ( mostly work phones or helping family/friends get deals ) I'd say no 90% or more of carriers aren't a better option and certainly aren't worth it.

AT&T like others are improving with time
( as has been stated several times over this thread those improvements have a cost )

Staying w/ATT right now is becoming more worthwhile as lately they've been throwing their existing customers a lot of bonus offers and such especially those without ULD or UL everything

Case in point I've gotten 2X Data no extra charge twice and now they've added 10GB More in bonus Data.

Getting 60 to 70GB A month b4 Rollover Data but paying the old old 15GB price all at 4G LTE NO Throttle and loving it.

I wonder this also....

Yes the person you replied to is correct roughly from Late January/Early February Thru to around April or so there will be some limited window of opportunity for existing UL users to ditch their contracts if they wish.

Be wary though if you go to another carrier and dislike it getting back on the better or preferred carrier may not be so EZ

I gave up my unlimited because I could not tether with it. Rarely used over a half a GB anyway, so... rather save the money. Went to a 2GB share plan (now 4GB for same rate) and haven't looked back. Like to have the money back before I made that decision, actually. I kept thinking a cell tower would show up near here. No way did that happen or will happen so no use crying over that any more. Life too short to waste banging head against wall!
