I'm dumping my grandfathered unlimited plan for TMOBILE today. I will save $10 a month and get a $150 prepaid credit card. And if I don't like the service from TMOBILE I will jump to Cricket. Am I stupid to give up my unlimited plan after 10 years?
I am in the same boat... I am getting tired of AT&T and their endless efforts to get me off UDP.

I finally said F*** it last month. I may even jump to Cricket in a couple months. T Mobile offered a $150 gift card to switch but it takes 8 weeks to get it. And y wife already let me spend the money so I need to wait a while to pay her back. T Mobile isn't bad. I have my high school daughter on a Cricket plan and the service is very good, and super cheap.

On Friday T Mobile will activate the 10gigs of LTE tethering for my plan so I'm looking forward to that.

I am at my house 16 hrs a day. Why shouldn't I use the coverage that I get at my house as a a basis for choosing what carrier I am with? AT&T can't do much for me at my house and Verizon was even worse. T-Mobile wins at my house and in the area that I work in. That's all I need since I don't do any traveling.

I've had cellphone service since 1993. I have always done this with any carrier since then and it works.

Wouldn't WIFI at your home and work cover you regardless of carrier?

Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words:D

When I moved off to college, my parents moved to T-Mobile (because it was cheaper), but I wanted to stay with AT&T. So we split off. The school I was originally going to had a contract with AT&T that offered I think 15% and they had a cell tower on campus so it was going to be good. Anyways after school I did some work with a few tech companies that offered 20-25%. My current discount is 23%, but what's really nice is that I get discounts on accessories with no upgrade or activation fees. I can add and remove lines from my MobileShare as needed. If a friend from abroad visits the US and needs a number for say a month, I can add them without incurring more than the basic month access charge. Anyways after college I merged my parents into my AT&T account without telling them. They were on auto-pay so I don't think they noticed until a few years ago when they lost a SIM card and needed replacing that.

We never did have T-Mobile signal at home so I'm not sure how they survived on it when I was away at school. I mean there is very fast Internet (and very up-to-date WiFi) and there is still a landline. Anyways I may never switch to T-Mobile unless there a very compelling reason to do so. Verizon and Sprint are out of the question since they are still CDMA carriers.

EDIT~
Seriously, a picture is worth a thousand words:

I know it's not important to a lot of people, but that upload speed is faster than many people's landlines.

I only have WiFi at home, not at work. Also, I prefer to have a carrier that also gives me coverage at home because there are a few times a year when we have a power outage that lasts several hours. At least with T-Mobile, I can get online and tether to my MBP and other devices. I can't do that with no coverage here withe AT&T and Verizon.

I had AT&T since the original iPhone and switched to T-Mobile when I moved to Seattle. . . The service has been fantastic. That said, their HQ is literally right down the road in Factoria, so I would guess that makes sense, right? Overall, I'm really pleased with how I've been treated, and when I had an issue with the iPhone 7 trade in program, one of their twitter peeps not only honored the trade-in in full right then and there (no longer commitment bound), they also gave me a sizable credit on my bill.

Switching to T-Mobile today. Currently paying about $88/mo for 6GB data per month (with a "17%" discount.) T-Mobile will be $70/mo for unlimited with 10GB tethering as of tomorrow.

AT&T service has been fine for me, but they are just too scummy. Been meaning to switch for a while but the pricing/features/network coverage hasn't been there, but now I think it has finally tilted the scale. Things like reducing the base plan price and increasing the per device charges essentially negate my employee discount which is 17% in name only, in reality it is about 9% since it applies to about half of the plan.

That plus their throttling is insane once you pass the data limit on their new plans.

I'm moving to South Florida soon, and have considered switching to T-Mobile. I currently have Verizon - anyone live in South Florida? What's T-Mobile like there?

I've. Even very happy on Cricket.

Data speeds, coverage and reliability will vary by location. All carriers have good and bad coverage areas.
Your broad general statement that Tmobile just sucks is useless.
Im sure over 71 million Tmobile subscribers will disagree and wouldn't be with them if they just sucked everywhere at all times and at all US locations.
Thank you for your valuable input though.

I have both and in metro San Diego area, I find TM has REALLY GOOD coverage. The outskirts and rural areas are not that good and that's where AT&T is better. I do find in the metro areas that TM is better than ATT.

Keep in mind if you are going to switch to look for any good deals at TM for new customers porting in from a competitor. You might be able to get a new phone for next to nothing.

Good luck and if you switch, enjoy all those new perks!
[doublepost=1497551936][/doublepost]A carrier is only as good as the area you use it in. T Mobil has respectable results in cities but in rural areas service is not as good as Att
There's no one answer. Best thing to do would be to try the service where you're going to be using it

TMO sucks. Go to cricket. It uses ATT network and is much cheaper.
So my ability to make a phone call, to actually use the data I pay for, to not buffer an audio stream while driving and to have decent coverage and speed all while having an equivalent bill for twice the lines I had on my previous carrier with better devices, sucks?

Are you suggesting I go back to Sprint? Because that's what I had before T-Mobile.

I love att , now on the unlimited plus plan and it's like 30+ more than t mobile but coverage matters my friends have unlimited on t mobile and sometimes they don't have signal so what's the point

I think it's a stupid argument when people talk about coverage area at their house as if this is a material factor in choosing one carrier over another as a point of reference.

There will always be coverage gaps between carriers.

Pricing and what you get as a whole for that monthly note is what matters. T-Mobile is more than competitive and large enough to be a safe choice and especially so with wifi calling enabled.
No lol Verizon and att have better coverage facts

For stationary use, I think T-Mobile would have been fine. I used them for a few months back in 2016 after leaving ATT. But there were 2 dead spots on the way home from work, and a few more than I liked on the road to visit family. Of course, at home I could have used Wi-Fi too, but Cell coverage is good at home. So I moved to Verizon since they offered an international plan with high speed roaming for $10/day. ATT didn't offer that, and I had a trip planned.

I DID just change to T-Mobile from ATT for my iPad. $10 for 5GB (up to 150 days). So far, it has worked well at work and at home, but I don't use it while driving.

it 100% your region
im in SF. generally ATT is strong here...Tmobile is awful. its 50/50 wether id go back
hoping ?tmobile improves network

I have been with AT&T for I'd say the better part of 6-7 years. Never had any issues with them, got a decent discount through my employer and the monthly bill was relatively cheap since I had my mom on my plan.

My mom has since ported her number to Verizon, so I was doing some cost analysis to see what data plan I should downgrade to (had 10GB that were shared). So I ultimately changed my plan to 6GB which should be enough considering my past usage. I primarily stream audio, check Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, WhatsApp, iMessage and emails throughout the day. Plus, I'm connected to my work wifi, so I'm really only using cellular data to/from work and on the weekends.

Anyway, I have been considering switching to T-Mobile One to save some money each month. So my main question is for those of you who have switched from AT&T, do you have any regrets? Or are you generally happy that you switched?

I plan on visiting a local T-Mobile store this weekend to get a SIM card for my unlocked SE to test out their network around my area since that will be the main factor in if I ultimately switch or not. But I still would love to hear from those of you who switched what your thoughts are.
DON'T DO IT!!!!! IF you live in So Cal. Don't. I got SCREWED. I had a grandfathered account, was with At&T since cellphones were invented and I lost all of it transferring to T-Mobile. I recently switched to take advantage of their 3 Lines for $100 (no taxes or fees) which I thought was an AMAZING deal. Well, my data speeds went from 60mbps to 1mbps. No joke. I couldn't make calls and the internet was butt ass slow. You-tube? nope didn't work. I went to my local store to complain and while I was in the store I tested the data. It leaped to 55+mbps! I told the guy you must have a repeater in the building and he adamantly denied it. I literally stepped outside of the store and my data dropped to 12mbps. 100ft from there, 1mbps. They are shady MFr's. Needless to say, I went back to AT&T and now pay more than what I was paying before AND I lost my unlimited data plan. Worst mistake ever. DON'T DO IT.

Yeah, as I mentioned in reply to your other (exact same) post T-Mob is screaming fast where my parents live and that's solidly SoCal. Riverside County.

We live in NYC. Have been on AT&T since the original iPhone came out. Switched to T-Mobile this past March and have no regrets. We now pay $80 a month for unlimited data and HD streaming along with 10 GB of tethering for 3 lines. We used to pay $170 a month with AT&T for 30GB of shared data for two lines.

No regrets whatsoever and we've also traveled to Seattle and haven't had any issues. Curious what'll happen when we do go to a non-Metro area. But don't anticipate being there for too long.

Ha, well I'm lazy. Same question, same answer. ;) I'm in LA by the way. Connection is swirly smily chocolate.
