I copied that from the AT&T site 5-minutes ago.

Yep it clearly states what's eligible for $350 and what's eligible for $800

I think it AT&T has changed the offer since it was released to apple. Now if you go to the trade in site and click the details about the offer only the Pixel 4 and 4XL are listed in the $700/$800 section.

Im not directing this at you but curious where some of the confusion has stemmed from or where its showing some phones for $350 and others for $800

maybe just tired haha and partially confused but

was just wanting to give a heads up that the Pixel 3 XL is gonna be $350 not $800 as was asserted earlier in this thread

:p

I'm sure you're right but the initial wording of the offer on the Apple website said the trade-ins had to be brought into a corporate store. Possibly to streamline and speed up the process and prevent the very worries that people here keep expressing.
I suspect they changed the offer to allow mail-ins: a) because that's what people were used to and b) because of covid.
Franchised stores are not obligated to do the receipt of phones for return. Corporate store are mandated to. That why they state bring into corporate store.

The pervious person was saying that and when I looked earlier on apples site it showed the Pixel 3 and 3XL were eligible for $800 but since then I have found the att site and it only lists the Pixel 4 and 4XL as eligible as you and I have said. I can't get through to the pricing page at apple.com to check if there's still says the Pixel 3 and 3XL are eligible or not.

But, you're right. The main AT&T site and the AT&T Trade-in site have different lists.
Below is the list from the Trade-in site. My list above is from the main AT&T site.
I see I would go by the trade in site list. Just to be safe.

You're right the initially wording was odd. But pretty normal when so few people are told about a device prior to a launch. Instead of an entire department + legal looking over documents, you probably have one person in each department under NDA.

Once it was public knowledge and more people were able to review, it was changed to be inline with how all their normal trade-ins work (online or in person.)

It's rare to find people within AT&T's MARCOM department that are truly knowledgable about devices. I once was with a large group of them and not a single one could name the selection of AT&T phones I was holding up without a price tag next to them.

the confusion is because AT&T has two lists.
Go to ATT.com right now and you'll see the offer at the top left.
When you click see full offer details you get the popup below.

If you plan to do the trade-in in an AT&T store, do you still have to go through the online trade in website and submit your device info with the promo code? Or do you just show up at the store with the device?

I see

I would just interpret that as like they'll take a busted up 11 Pro max for $350 in credits, but it has to be at least $35 as in its probably not worth anything if its blacklisted where its worth $0 but its on both lists bc assuming its on the first for $800, its good to go like not broken or blacklisted in the clear (albeit I understand its an extreme scenario, I would hope 11PM qualifies of any iPhones its the priciest and latest prior to these new ones)

thats why phones like 6s and 6 are on there, but only the $350 credits list not at all $800. Because those absolutely will not yield in the $800 range even if its new in box.

its also why a device like se1 isn't on there at all . it yields $15 even in tip top.

If that makes sense or clarifies ...

Typical misinformation from an AT&T employee. When I worked at the store, we were absolutely able to handle trade-ins even if someone didn't buy the phone from our channel. The online terms and conditions also confirm that this is possible.

The reason they don't want you to bring it into the store is that it takes several minutes to process the paperwork, and they gain nothing from doing it. It's also extra work for the inventory person in the back to then process all these trade-in phones. At my store, I made sure we processed them daily, but there were some stores that waited days or longer. The audit rules stated that they had to be processed within a certain number of days.

Bring it to a store (a corporate-owned one) and you will be fine. I'll be doing the same.
Good to know. Wish all the info for this deal was much more straight forward on the websites! Thanks.

I just purchased an Unlocked iPhone 8 64gb for $243 with shipping on eBay so I don't have to give AT&T my iPhone XS 256GB for the $800 credit. I am basically paying $522 for the iPhone 12 Pro. ($999+$80 Taxes+$243-$800 Credit). Hopefully this works and satisfies their needs. No where does it say the phone has to be theirs or on your line to trade in.

Looking at this page https://tradein.att.com/offer-details it says "activate postpaid unlimited wireless service" and only new customers need the plan to cost $75 or more. This might change but using their only terms on their website any unlimited plan should justify the $800 credits. The section I am referring to is the second group of text that starts with "You'll Need to:".
Yeah I just don’t know anymore lol. I went ahead and upgraded my line anyways- for $5 more I get 5G access, hotspot and premium data. And peace of mind there will be one less hiccup in like 7 hours now!

unlocked is fine as is 8

good strategy. It’s still a good deal for XS but XS is still a good phone too ! 8 is too frankly
But $800 or keep an 8 would be a no brainer

My only worry is the clean IMEI since I won't know what it is tell I get the phone its from a good seller so I'm not to worried. My iPhone XS will go to my mother who has a 7+ and since the 7+ doesn't get the credit I will simply sell the 7+ and try to get back my $243 that I paid for the 8. Plus my iPhone XS has AppleCare+ still so I will go get the battery replaced and shell have a (somewhat) new phone.

yeah as long as a good seller and make sure it’s not on payments you’ll be fine! I have hope !

sounds like a good shuffle strategy. Musical iPhone chairs

The only reason I haven't upgraded my Unlimited plan is because its cheaper the way I have it and I don't need 5G or more mobile hotspot. Once I get the phone and before I process the trade in I will call AT&T and confirm it'll be fine. But usually when I call them they just read me the exact text from the promo, which is lame...

Is there a way to check if its on payments? yea get the best deal! AT&T isn't losing out on anything I've been with them for 15 years and don't plan on changing.

You should just have to show up at the store. Online trade in should only be for online orders but with COVID they may just make everyone do it online. Only way to be sure is to go to the store and ask tomorrow.

You can drop another $10 per line if you sign up for no paper billing and automatic payments.
Yes you can but that is typically already included in the price AT&T advertises.
For MOST people, this isn't an issue. The people who this may be more of an issue for, while paying the phone off, is people who want to use the one of the sim (eSim or Phys) slots w/ another carrier. Obviously cannot do that while paying off the phone. Outside of that, if someone buys a phone w/ their carrier, good chance they're not carrier hopping back and forth.
Yeah that was my point. Of course people aren't carrier hopping, but I guess many people don't use international sims. I just don't want to be tied down to ATT when I pop another carrier's sim in my phone.

Does anyone know if we’ll need to know the IMEI number of the phone were trading in while preordering tomorrow? Or will we have time to go hunt down an inexpensive iPhone 8 while we wait for our 12 to be delivered?

If ordering on the apple site no. Apple just directs you to att trade in site. If ordering AT&T site not sure but most likely no. Also the trade in offer being shown on apple website just shows you the claim you don't get the claim tell you fill out the info on the att trade in page and use the promo code listed.

We were on an older value plan for 20gb w/roll over minutes and a $17 FAN discount for 4 lines ($160 per mo). We changed the plan to the Unlimited Elite which came to $40 per line with the extra $10 per line Signature Program Member discount. Same price I had on my old plan but now we have 5G, unlimited data, 100gb premium and 30gb per line hotspot, plus HBO Max. Even if we don't do this deal or upgrade our phones, at least we are ready when we do need it and locked in this package.
