Have either of you tried de-activating, then re-activating with iTunes to see if the unlock gets applied ?
I have read many reports of the unlock being in place but no email.

Got 2 unlocked. One 4 and a 4s. The 4 literally took and hour to receive the email. 4s unlock request was this morning and within 2 hours got an email.

How do you do the de-activating and re-activating? after i restored i used a blank T-Mobile sim and it does not work, put the AT&T sim back in place it work again. I believe that means still not unlock right?

Yes.
You can use redsnow to deactivate it so you dont have to keep restoring to check if its unlocked or not.

If I have a family account with 3 different phones having three different expiration dates, if I want to pay an early termination fee for just one phone to get an unlock, can I do this?

Or, do I have to buy out all three phones?

Finally got the unlock email today from AT&T for my 4s. What was strange is that the email starts off with, "Attached is the form necessary to complete your request. Please fill it out and return it to the address listed on the form. If you have any questions, please refer to our online support site at http://att.com/wireless. "

The only attachment is the standard pdf with unlocking instructions! Nothing to send back...

I did the backup and restore and then popped in a foreign sim card. Phone showing "activation required" and then "sim not valid" "only compatible sim cards..."

What gives? IMEI.info shows phone as still locked but I have read that it could be inaccurate.

Any suggestions?

That is different than the email notification I received confirming my IMEI unlock.

Very strange. No other attachment, just the unlock instructions. AT&T telling me to call Applecare. Applecare saying phone is still locked!

Yes, sounds like someone at AT&T messed it up and didnt do the proper procedure.
I'd call AT&T again and explain them where you're at so far.

Applecare got on the line with AT&T - AT&T said that my case # is still being worked on, unlock not complete. Said some automated emails go out too early. Totally bizarre.

Just an FYI. I cancelled the line on my 4s. Then paid the etf fee. Got it unlocked within a few minutes of calling AT&T. Walked into AT&T and started my line again and got reimbursed the etf fee and activation fee. I made $30 unlocking my 4s.

Just as a bit of info for those who are getting the unlock email but it's not unlocking them - I've had to go through the whole process three times now, gotten approved, and one phone is still not unlocked.

It's a bit frustrating, but no one has said 'Oh, we can't unlock that one.' The only thing I can think of is that the phone used to be an old Apple employee's personal phone.

I'll keep trying until it goes through.

You'd think they'd have set up an automated system by now where original owners could do the unlock through an IVR or something.

My original theory was that they are just getting hammered and everything is backed up - My original theory was that I accidentally gave them the wrong IMEI number or that doing two different phones from two different numbers at the same time caused some sort of issue. Then I remembered any time AT&T handles something for Apple it instantaneously obtains fubar status.

Glad they are unlocking them, but from all the reports the process seems like a real mess.

I don't know - eager to get this last one unlocked.

Good luck everyong.e

I have no clue who you are, but I want to vote for you for President.

Well played, sir.

How long was that line out of service. I may want to try this because I used my dad's upgrade to get the 4S, but I don't want to have his line out of service for too long. What did you tell them in-store to get the line re-activated after such a short period?

does anyone here been waiting for their unlock e-mail more than 7 days?

i requested on April 9th and the rep told me the completion date is April 17th. Today is April 18 and i still did not receive any e-mail from AT&T. I have been restored numeric times and no unlock message so far.

Heyy... did you get your unlock,or still waiting??..... I got my case registered on 12th.... till now no response, called rep yesterday they said due to overwhelming request they are backed up...and he didn't seem to have an ETA on my case, he said it will take more time. thats it. :(

More time... from now until 2037 qualifies as more time.

My bill cycle ended on the 16th. I prescheduled a deactivation on the 12th to be cancelled on the 15th. Before my cycle ended. On the 17th I called to make sure the etf was on my bill. It was. I paid it over the phone. I went to AT&T and said I deactivated my line and want to start it again. He said since I was within 30 days of the cancel I would be reimbursed the etf and the activation fee. Showed me the computer screen with a $297.00 credit. I ran out as fast as I could. Lol

This is the email I received yesterday and my phone is in fact unlocked. They may have just changed the format for the emails.

I also received a separate email later in the day stating this case # blah blah blah was closed.

I did NOT get the unlocked message in itunes but I did try another sim and it worked fine.

Just received a more standard unlock email as well. I guess they are still sending that one too. Lol.

make this the 4th time I've gone through the process, gotten successful emails, and still don't have an unlocked iPhone.

Hmmm...
