reading through this im a bit confused. If i purchased the 3G when it came out, i should be hitting my 2 year mark soon. If i upgrade to whichever phone is coming out next after the 2 year mark, i should only have to pay for the subsidized price of the phone correct? or is there usually a fee involved?

you will certainly be eligible and you just pay for the subsidized price (like someone who walked in off the street). No additional fees (beyond what's normal for new activations).

Login and click on upgrade options.

I don't see a date, it just says:

"As a valued AT&T customer, you may be eligible for a standard upgrade on this line, with reduced equipment pricing when signing a 2-year commitment. Click 'Upgrade Eligibility' to view your upgrade options."

...And what happens when you click Upgrade Eligibility?

It says I'm not eligible until 02/2011 and I got a 3GS. I've got 2. I pre-ordered the 3GS as soon as it was available. HAHAHAHAHA.

I'm getting the rip off. These other guys around here are bragging about having a 06/2010 date. How did you pull that off?

I've been eligible since last november.... got my 3gs when I added a line for my wife and gave HER my 3g! June can't come soon enough.... :D

Heh, I'm on the excellent Spousal Upgrade Plan too. I got the original, my wife got mine two years later when I got the 3GS, now I get the new one and she gets the 3GS. I'll be eligible for the new model every year. Beauty.

Hope she doesn't mind my sloppy seconds.

My 24 months (3G) are up in August. I seldom pay over the minimum per month (occasionally I buy a txt or three) but I still hope to qualify a LITTLE early. Like... June? Let me dream

EDIT: Looks like I may qualify already:

How much of a discount? This I cannot say. And hopefully by waiting until August I could dodge the $18 fee. (Who am I kidding? I want it now.)

Actually you will know when it shows no 18 dollar fee and it says full upgrade.

we're paying > $99/month for our contract

Whatever the rules are, i'm sure i'm not eligible. Guess what, i don't care. I've bought all three iPhones on release date. Buying on release date again! :apple: It'll probably be $199 + $100 again.. which is fine with me. As long as it isn't $400-500 for the lower model, i'm fine with it.

I bought my 3GS the day it came out and just went to the AT&T website. It says I can upgrade to a discounted rate on 11/21/10. Does this seem right?

Why are some getting a 6/10 date?

I am confused...

Can someone please explain what all this $99 talk is about? If you spend that much each month, you're eligible for an earlier upgrade? And unless I'm not understanding this correctly, why isn't the upgrade price for the phone simply $199?

Sorry to be stupid, but mine says:

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

So that means I can get the subsidized price on the new phone (+ new contract) and I pay the additional $18 bucks right? If so- CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW iPHONE!

i signed up for a family plan with the 3g and a dumb phone back in october of '08. paid $100 a month with FAN discount, i checked my eligibility 3 months ago and was good for an upgrade on 6/2/10.

i was surprised cause i read the amount per month per line has to be $100 or over to get an early upgrade. i'm not complaining but i think att is not consistence with their policy.

on that note, can't wait till the iphone hd drops. i am ready!

What you talkin' bout?

My upgrade date is still 11/20/10. Pre-ordered my 3GS. Activated on launch day. Guessing the 6/10 date is either being gradually updated -- like Google does w/ Gmail updates or it's an April Fools Joke but typical with ATT's network there was lots of latency accounting for the delay.

If this is for real then I think it lends credence to the Verizon rumor.

I dialed *639# and got back:

"As a valued customer, we can offer you can upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and waive the $18 upgrade fee."

FYI, I think my 3G contract ends in August, and I have a (small) corporate discount.

Anyway, I assume this means full subsidization on the new phone, and not the "early upgrade" half-subsidization that I used to see after crossing the 18-month mark.

Since when do these companies waive upgrade fees for ANYONE? To me, that smells like kissing butt in anticipation of Verizon competition.

Well I have an original iPhone and a 3G so both have been upgrade eligible for a while.

So will I upgrade or will I move to Verizon when the VeriPhonezon comes out this year?

(just kidding).

How much do you pay per month for your service? I pay $135/month for my family plan and I'm able to upgrade every 12 months. I suspect the people who haven't been bumped to June (ie: those who can upgrade in November) are paying less than $100/month to AT&T.

Just logged into my AT&T account - my iPhone upgrade date has definitely moved backwards. I can now upgrade on June 20th :D

(Even though your article says the earliest date would be June 21st?)

I've owned every iPhone model so far (2G, 3G, 3Gs, and will buy an HD or whatever as well).

-Got the 2G on day of release, paid full price
-Got the 3G on day of release, paid discounted rate
-Got the 3GS day of release, paid full price

Now they want me to pay full price if I want a G4 day of release?

Weird. I didn't get a 2G until January of '08, and then I got a 3G a few days after the release for a discounted price, and then I preordered a 3Gs in '09 at what I thought would be the full price, but they changed the conditions at the last minute and I got that one discounted too. AND, they're giving me the next one discounted according to AT&T's website.
