I was precisely thinking about the Surface: sales are a small fraction of the iPad’s
First, there are six different models of iPad, and the majority are sold as consumer content consumption devices so that's hardly a proper comparison when Surface Pro is a work device.

Secondly, sales were not part of the discussion I replied to.

Legally "deemed true" doesn't mean it's actually true. MacRumours' coverage of the alleged default is inconsistent--it implies he's in default, but also says his deadline to respond to the lawsuit was extended through October. 17, which implies he is not in default.
I’ve been following this case on my own. I have Docket alerts set up for court filings. I couldn’t care less about MacRumors coverage. But it appears you read the coverage wrong. There are two Defendants. Prosser is in Default. The other had his time to respond extended.

In any event, you didn’t address my claim that your post was rage-bait as Prosser’s actions are in no way, shape or form the same as this AT&T leak. So, I’ll just assume, yes, it was rage bait.

M5 iPad Pro sounds amazing _hardware wise_, but until iPadOS actually grows up or there is any meaningful local inference happening (no the stuff introduced in 26 isn't even close to enough to actually make the iPad a computer, it is great, sure, but it should have been there from the very beginning), there is literally no point to jamming anything more than an M2 into these things, they're held back by iPadOS so badly.

I love how thin my M4 iPad Pro is, don't get me wrong, but it's completely underutilized bc the OS is incredibly limiting (still).

This is evergreen content! 👆

<latest iPad> sounds amazing hardware wise, but until <current version of iPadOS> grows up there is literally no point to jamming anything more than a <chip that's a few years older> into these things, they're held back by <current version of iPadOS> so badly.

The Surface Pro competes with the iPad Pro. Compared with the latter, the SP sales are not a fraction of iPP sales
The iPad Pro seems to be a big portion of the total iPad sales (unfortunately there are no official numbers, but we have estimations like https://www.macrumors.com/2024/08/08/ipad-pro-quarterly-sales-cirp/), so it’s probably around 2x the total Surface line revenue (once again, even more difficult to compare sales). But that includes the whole Surface line, so you would need to remove the laptops. And also: the Surface Pro is way closer in terms of starting price to the iPad Air than the iPad Pro.

Regarding the first part, I estimated a comparison in a previous comment. Regarding the second: we discussed about success, and I think sales are definitely a good proxy for it.

There is a better chance that this is someone, or more possibly some algorithm/ai, in marketing at AT&T picking up on an uptick in “iPad Pro M5” searches on Google trends and trying to take advantage for SEO purposes by creating a bs landing page vs. an actual leak.
Yeah, AI picked up on the “reduced transparency (which in many cases increases the brightness of the screen) causing more CPU usage” when it’s just increased OLED brightness. Even captured the values that in no way represent a CPU only increased load. So now, that’s what the algorithm will likely give you :D

I'm confused the point you're arguing...are you saying the Surface Pro was not a success? If that's not what you're saying, then we agree. Both the iPad Pro and Surface Pro enjoy good sales, I would assume.

A few things:

1. You're not wrong, and to that extent, I am pretty confident if/when the iPad isn't limited artificially, the "content" will no longer be "evergreen" which is a good segue to...

2. It is def a large enough contingent of people to spur your comment to begin with that would like that form factor and UX (read: touch or at least touch augmented) to run applications and workloads the hardware clearly can AAPL does not allow

3. Apple has, now for years, been trying to push the iPad as a computer (their "super computer" ads, etc). So, I don't think the people saying this are the ones making this evergreen as much as Apple making some pretty incredulous claims that _could_ become credible at some point if they just didn't neuter the thing so hard.

Do your “pro apps” also support the current RAM limitation?
There are two important points here:
First, Apple has to allow the RAM usage (according to Apple, this has something to do with data security), and second, developers have to integrate this activation. Otherwise, even 100 GB of RAM wouldn't help you.

I have not bought the iPad Pro for the RAM.
What do you use your Pro for?
Let's put it this way, if the machines do not support it why would the developers. But with Shapr3d which also has a Mac version, opening simpler files in the iPad is no problem, but on both my base 8GB M1 MacBook Air and my iPad Pro both struggle or fail. RAM is an issue on both platforms.

Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, Tab S11 Ultra & Z Fold 7
^^This.

Despite being an "in the walled garden" guy, the Z Fold 7 has largely displaced all my iPad usage.

I think this says more about the (still, despite improvements in 26) limitations of iPadOS still making it closer, on the spectrum, to an "overgrown phone" than a true computing experience (e.g. laptop, touch screen laptop/computer style work) than the merits of the Z Fold 7, although the multi screen/multi-tasking implementation is nothing short of excellent (both Android's native and Dex) and makes great use of that large display that unfolds.

It's nowhere near the size of the 13" iPP, but definitely takes out the iPad Mini from the quiver, and, again, functionally, even with less screen real estate, is actually _more_ useful for "real work" than the 13" iPP/11" iPP, and is no larger than an iPhone PM.

I know this use/me/ppl like me using the Z Fold 7 as an iPad replacement are a tiny and niche group not relevant yet, but I think that will change more quickly than we think as foldable form factors become fare more standard and software/general device UX incl the hardware form factor is built around how that changes how you can/should optimally use tech.

For ex: the iPad was the solution I was hoping for for year to not having to lug a larger MBA/laptop around but the software stack never made that possible but has never panned out b/c of iPadOS' limitations (even in 26). The Z Fold 7 finally is good enough in hardware and software (that really nailed it, if you have not used it...try it, you know AAPL engineers/PMs are for the iPhone version of the form factor) to basically "skip" the whole concept of a tablet, which I don't think has a long term place in the market en masse anymore with foldable tech as it matures in the next 5 years or so.

Um, that’s not true. Final Cut Pro really benefits from the M4, as does AI inference especially on the models with 16GB RAM. And with the addition of background processing in iPadOS 26, more truly Pro apps have been announced for it as well.
The M4 exports a little over twice as fast as the prior iPad Pro. I’m expecting improvements for the future FCP as well.
