This would only be good imo for aggressive fitness people that cant be without their watch but wanna lose their phone baggage, or people who decide to go iPhoneless all together (is that possible? Or dependent on having to have an iPhone plan to get this plan?)

Otherwise its a tough value prop,

Agreed. I can see a few occasions where the connectivity might be nice, but for $120/yr? Not convinced.

I might consider $5/mo. I like the barometric altimeter on the AW3, but otherwise not inclined to do anything.

It'll be interesting to see what TMO does and how ATT/VZN react.

I was strongly considering getting one but the $10/month extra charge totally killed it for me. I still have the 1st gen. I didn't upgrade last year. I am fine with my current watch but I just started swimming so it would be nice to have one that is waterproof so I do not have to worry. I would love the series 3 W/LTE but I do not want to pay the extra monthly charge from AT&T. So I am hoping I can find a series 2 on a close-out/clearance somewhere super cheap, like last year when the new ones came out the 1st gen's could be found super cheap.

For what it’s worth...

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all announced $10/month plans with an initial three months of free service.

Imo temporary free service is entirely moot

It’s to try to get you hooked, but $30 off subscriptions for a device you plan on wearing for years, is inconsequential in the decision factor.

It’s certainly a nice touch **IF** you’re already on board with the idea of $10/month indefinitely, but its not gonna lessen the blow for anything who already has serious reservations about getting a device that requires service to enable its intended functionality

$120/yr to use a watch ?

Hahahahahaha...

I was HOT to order the watch, but the $10 monthly charge puts a bit of a damper on it. However, another way to look at it is it's slightly less than 3 lattes at Starbucks. Wonder how many complainers stop at Starbucks EVERYDAY? I don't want the extra charge at this time, but maybe I'll change my mind. Also less than a cocktail.

Another thought. A few months back I reduced our shared data from 6GB to 3GB, saving about $30 a month if I remember correctly. If I got this watch and it pushed our shared data above 3GB where I had to go back to the shared 6GB deal, the watch would actually cost $40 a month.

Still, I was impressed with the presenter taliking to the woman on the paddle board if it was true that she didn't have an iPhone with her and the presenter called her through an iWatch without a phone involved.

most likely.

If its easy to add/remove the device from the plan , you can try adding it only when you know you’ll need it

I'm still pondering, then. Not sure if I want to sell my Series 2 Hermes and buy a Series 3 regular SS. I think I'd come close to breaking even. Or, I could just keep the Hermes for another year.

I legit tried to buy the Hermes edition when it came out last year but they keep making the leather band on the 42mm version the same size as the 38mm.. so, no go.

The band on the 42MM is longer. Or maybe it seems that way because the case is wider. I have to wear it on the last hole.

compared to apple’s classic leather buckle, it’s 15mm shorter. (195mm to 210mm)

$10/month might make this a pass for me. I'd like to update my series 0 and the combination of waterproof/GPS/LTE finally makes a compelling upgrade path, but an additional $120/year for something that I really only need as the occasional convenience is too much. $5 is the right price.

It'll be interesting to see what degree of adoption the $10/mo pricing achieves. I too balk at $10/mo but might consider $5/mo. Not because I can't afford it, but more a matter of perceived value given my expected usage.
