Hello Can anyone here help me unlock my iphone 4? I just got rejected though I request already last 12th of April. I requested again but still they say that now they need a number or account though keep telling them that I bought the phone at full price at apple store. Can anyone help I already tried calling and sending them email.. and yes I'm not an AT&T customer.. I'm just sad that they reject me even I request before their Policy Change. I can provide a proof of purchase for those who are willing to help. thank you..:)

If you bought at full no contract price at an Apple store it should be unlocked already. If not unlocked, you should talk to Apple not AT&T. If you are not an AT&T customer they have no reason or responsibility to help you.

Apple will fix it for you not AT&T.

Apple provides the unlocking even for AT&T. On June 14 2011 Apple starting selling unlocked iPhone 4 in the US for $649 and up. You just missed it but they will unlock it for you.

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...ple-starts-selling-unlocked-iphone-4-for-649/

On November 11 2012 they started the same for the 4S.

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...-contract-free-i/&category=classic&postPage=1

So contact Apple not AT&T unless you are a phone number carrying AT&T customer. Apple does the customer service.

If you paid a full no contract price at apple for the 4, you have qualified for unlocking. Your phone was locked to AT&T because at the time there is no other GSM carrier in the USA that has the right 3G freq.

I don't know how accurate those imei sites are or if they are up-to-date. You might try this: Back up your iPhone 4 in iTunes and then restore it from that recent backup (from iTunes).

If you phone is unlocked locked, iTunes will display the message, upon completion,

"Congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked" It will do this every time from a restore. There is a chance your phone may have been unlocked, retroactively, (I read that in Korea, this was done) but it needs that restore for Apple to send it the unlock codes.

Just a thought. Otherwise, contact Apple on-line via live chat at the Apple web site, or call (from the Philippines). With your info, they can tell you 1) if it is locked, and 2) will unlock it for you, if you indeed purchased it at a store or on line at a no-contract price.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

I was very pleased to get my 4S unlocked.

I would think Skype would be fine.

This should give you confidence too. The key is that you purchased from Apple at full price.

"Customers who buy new iPhone 4 at Apple retail stores may be given an AT&T version that’s unlocked on the spot at an Apple retail store should the store run out of the unlocked model, which suggests that Apple has the capability of unlocking the AT&T edition of the GSM iPhone 4 units. According to 9to5 Mac, if Apple retail stores are short of unlocked iPhone 4 units, they can grab an AT&T iPhone and the checkout system can unlock the device if the customer pays the full, unsubsidized price for the phone.

While Apple has sold iPhones in the U.S. without a contract at full retail price in the past, they were only able to sell AT&T-locked iPhone units. Now, with a retail system that can potentially either lock a phone to AT&T, or unlock the phone if a user pays full price, Apple can essentially stock fewer models of the iPhone going forward to avoid having to maintain inventories for each individual model, whether they’re locked or unlocked iPhone units, and still give customers what they want at the point of sales".

When speaking to Apple, refer to this link below and just argue that you missed the date by a week:

https://www.macrumors.com/2011/06/27/all-no-commitment-att-iphone-4-purchases-coming-unlocked/

There are two ways customers can buy an unlocked iPhone 4 at the Apple Store.

1. Buy an unlocked iPhone without a micro-SIM card inside for $649 (16GB) or $749 (32GB).

This is the best option for a customer who will not be using AT&T.

These customers will need to contact their GSM carrier of choice to obtain a micro-SIM card and wireless service. Do not hand out micro-SIM cards to customers purchasing iPhone 4 without a micro- SIM card.

2. Buy any iPhone 4 with an AT&T micro-SIM card inside at full price. These models will also be unlocked whether the customer signs up for an AT&T service plan or chooses the Device Only purchase option.

Note: All devices sold at the unsubsidized prices of $649 and $749 will be unlocked and can be activated and used on supported GSM carrier networks.

@viewfly

One of the links you gave had a comment explaining that previously bought locked phones cannot be unlocked due to that apple do not offer unlocked service? Is this true? I haven't try talking to apple yet because of this. They might redirect me to at&t or so. Yes I missed the unlocked ones by a week. Do you think apple unlocked my phone? Despite that many tell us that they do not offer unlocking service? I also read some formums says that only respective carriers can unlock the phone.

Why are you so afraid to contact Apple? If what you say is true, buying your phone at an unsubsidized price, from Apple, but only a week before they changed the policy, Apple will unlock it for you.

AT&T Phone puchase 4s when on Holiday it's Locked

I purchased a secondhand phone in a mall when on Holiday in Vegas. The guy said he would unlock it and it would work in New Zealand. Ha! Joke.
I was reading here you can get the iphone 4s unlocked on At&T could someone please advise with a direct phone number for me to ring and if you think it will work in N.Z ?
Thanks in Advance?

i am an AT&T customer using the iPhone 4.
i recently requested for an unlock which i got approved for. AT&T sent me instructions on how to unlock my phone doing the back up and restore.
i HAVE NOT done the back up and restore yet but when I checked the IMEI info on the website it says that my phone is UNLOCKED.
so now my question is, do I still need to do the back up and restore through itunes even though the IMEI website is showing that it is unlocked? can i try putting in a non official sim card (t mobil) to try to see if it is working?
another thing, if I go ahead and cancel my account with AT&T without doing the back up and restore, will AT&T RELOCK my iPhone since I left them?

No, you do not need to backup and restore. Just put in another SIM and it should work.

No, once the phone is unlocked then AT&T will not relock it.

Apple unlocks the phone but only if requested by the carrier, unless Cook puts in the request. :D

By the way, since you're not an AT&T customer then they are under no obligation to unlock it for you.

I would keep trying. If you were in the USA, I think walking into an ATT or Apple store, with your full price receipt, would do the trick.

Others have been successful. http://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/news/how-i-factory-unlocked-my-att-iphone-4-in-48-hours/ I'm surprised that you were not.

I would email a letter to ATT customer care, as in the above link, along with a copy of your receipt.

I would also email a letter to Apple, better yet, to Tim Cook. They will get back to you with a very short time. I am very serious. tcook@apple.com His office has a group that personally responds to email sent to him, usually within 24 hours. When I did, I got a telephone call from his office the next day.

Good luck! Or just Jailbreak. In fact tell Tim that you would prefer not to JB, but do a factory unlock, that may help your response.

Or maybe become an ATT customer for a short time.

Thanks viewfly for your time. I will try to send a message directly to timcook. Hope it will go same as you. Even I want to become an AT&T costumer for a short time I can't for I'm not in te US anymore. Will keep you updated.

Asking help to unlock

I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help me unlock my iphone 4. I bought it in France from a person who initially purchased it in an AT&T store in Chicago paying the full retail price. I have the receipt.

I upgraded my baseband while following a tut on youtube to activate the phone.:(

my email is imtmee@yahoo.com

anyone who helps thanks in advance!!!

I have an iPhone 4 that is unlocked and jailbroken. I got it on ebay and currently use it on Tmobile. Today I asked the seller if he could contact At&T & ask them to unlock it for me, which he did. They told him it's all set and sent him the email with directions, which surprised me because I thought you usually had to wait for the actual unlock to happen. I checked on dev.mk and it says unlocked, so that's a good sign. I tried plugging the phone in to see if I got a congratulations you're unlocked message, as some have said they got without restoring, but I didn't get anything.

Now I'm just scared that if I restore it and for some reason it doesn't work it will update the software and I will lose the unlock I currently have and thus my ability to use it on Tmo. Am I crazy? Should I just do it?

I just requested an unlock to AT&T for my iPhone 4 and did the back up and restore from back up but didn't get the "your phone is unlocked" message as others did. However, the IMEI checker shows that my phone is unlocked...

In this case as a previous post shows, is mine truly unlocked even though I didn't get the message while restoration?

I'm still with AT&T and just requested an unlock just in case I travel internationally (local sim) and also increase the value of the phone for a better sale once the iPhone 5 comes out.

unlocking a jailbroken 3gs

Hi,

I've been perusing this thread for a couple hours but still can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question:

I bought a jailbroken/unlocked iphone 3gs (ios 4.3.3, baseband 06.15.00) from someone on craigslist because I needed an unlocked phone that I could use in China. Unfortunately, I don't know which method the seller used to jailbreak it.

Now I hear that AT&T will unlock out-of-contract iphones. I'm 99% sure that the phone would be out-of-contract (I bought it a year ago, but the seller said he'd owned it for more than a year).

I want to upgrade to a new ios because since a recent upgrade of itunes, the phone hasn't been communicating with itunes very well.

I have never updated the ios because I've heard some people say that it could "brick" the phone and I couldn't risk that because I rely heavily on it for my Chinese studies. I also don't want to upgrade it and be stuck with a phone locked into use with AT&T since I'll be using it in China.

I have a few questions:

#1- If I call AT&T and ask them unlock my secondhand jailbroken phone, will they be able to do it?

#2 - Would I need to upgrade the ios before calling AT&T or afterwards? (or maybe the question should be - would I need to update the ios before or after connecting it to itunes)?

#3 - Would it make any difference if I do the upgrade while I am in the U.S. (I have no AT&T sim) or would it work when I return to China in a couple of weeks?

Thanks so much,
Kevin

If your iPhone's on baseband 06.15.00, you can already unlock it.
